remote/command line interface
This is for archiving purposes.
I finished a "remote control interface" for ogg123 similar to that of
mpg123.
If ogg123 is ran with -R option then a command interface via stdin/stdout is
offered. This is currently used by irmp3 (irmp3.sourceforge.net).
The interface offers load/pause/stop/seek and several status messages.

EFI Reboot Timer
I am working on setting up a global boot server that serves up files across the WAN. I am running into a 5 minute timer that is rebooting my hosts before they can complete the kernel and initrd file download.
The servers in questions are HP DL60s, and they use UEFI. I am using syslinux.efi version 6.03. They get the kernel file from the TFTP server in about 2 ? minutes, then get 2 ? more minutes

Fwd: Re: Clarification on pshycho-acoustic in Vorbis (your non-MP3 guide)
After reading http://mp3.radified.com/mp3.htm I sent Rad an explanation of
some things as I understand them. He liked it and posted it on his site
(still unlinked, use the URL below). Can somebody with better
understanding of psycho-acoustic terms and the vorbis model check it and
comment on it? In particular I didn't know how vorbis handles
quantization noise. If you reply with

Issue with NA value and Octave compatibility
Dear R developers,
I'm an Octave developer in the process of implementing a single
precision type in Octave and I have an issue with the NA value. The
choice of NA value in Octave was made a few years back so that the high
word of the NA value was 0x7ff00000 and the low word was 0x000007A2 for
compatibility with R and to ease any possible issue with the exchange of
data files between Octave

netlogon problems
Hi @ all,
I have two samba-servers running perfectly!
Now I configured a third machine which provides some backups. Since I brought
it up in the network the windows client won't execute the netlogon-scripts...
When I turn off samba-services on the backup-machine it works again.
Did I miss something??? Maybe you can open my eyes...
Best regards
Sascha

Visual stimulus presentation using R?
Dear all!
Although the Psycho-Toolbox for Matlab is free software, Matlab isn't.
I'm planning to do an experiment where it's essentail to travel to the
subjects, not let the subjects come to where the Matlab licences are
:-(
So I need to use a free software for my experiment if I don't want to
by an extra Matlab licence (which I don't want to).
Did anyone ever try to do

Book on Postfix/Dovecot or Postfix/Dovecot/Clam/Spam Assassin?
I'm looking for a book on Postfix/Dovecot or Postfix/Dovecot/Clam/Spam Assassin
The blog posts and the mini-HowTo's I am reading lack the detail to be
useful to me (due to my own ignorance).
Amazon does not list any books for sale. There are some hits when
searching for Dovecot, but I expect them to be one section with the
quality of a blog post or mini-HowTo. (I have two books on Red

Vorbis/Lame
Hi,
I think that it would be a good thing to know more about those 2 projects
(and also the future patent free format).
I think that many people as me know about Lame, but not about Vorbis, and
vice-versa.
It would be fine that someone (perhaps the maintainer) of every project
would introduce to both group of people those projects. 2 things would be
interesting (to my mind):
- to know about the

Idea for gapless tracks
We all know that currently Vorbis is the only codec out there that
doesn't add any silence to the decoded file, so when you decode
your .ogg file the resulting .wav will be exactly the same length
as the original one. This is very useful when encoding gapless
songs (like live concerts...). But since Vorbis is a lossy codec,
even though there is no silence added, sometimes you can
still hear a

Analogue artifact estimation
Hi List,
Just batting a few ideas around here, but would it be possible to include in to the codec, estimation for common video artifacts that occur in the analogue world?
For example, anything that's gone through a composite stage will likely have dot-crawl and false colour - if we can recognise this effect in the encoder, we can treat it as a special case.
Other artifacts that come to

New Tutorial - RHCS + DRBD + KVM; 2-Node HA on EL6
Hi all,
I'm happy to announce a new tutorial!
https://alteeve.com/w/2-Node_Red_Hat_KVM_Cluster_Tutorial
This tutorial walks a user through the entire process of building a
2-Node cluster for making KVM virtual machines highly available. It uses
Red Hat Cluster services v3 and DRBD 8.3.12. It is written such that you
can use entirely free or fully Red Hat supported environments.

Updated Spam Assassin for CentOS 5...
I am wondering about updating the version of Spam Assassin on my CentOS 5 mail
server. The current version, 3.3.1-4.el5 (stock RHEL version), has been
'leaking' recently. I suspect I need some newer match rules to detect some of
the newer flavors of spam. I see that in rpmforge's extras repo is version
3.3.2-4.el5.rfx -- is this version worth installing? Are there even newer

Adjusting confidence intervals for paired t-tests of multiple endpoints
Dear R-users,
In a randomized placebo-controlled within-subject design, subjects recieved
a psycho-active drug and placebo. Subjects filled out a questionnaire
containing 15 scales on four different time points after drug
administration. In order to detect drug effects on each time point, I
compared scale values between placebo and drug for all time conditions and
scales, which sums up to
