converting mp3's to aac+ or ogg
Hello,
I've got a FreeBSD 6 machine running icecast2 and ices0streaming four
different streams of mp3's. Now i have a need to stream the same content as
either aac+ or ogg vorbis whichever would be easiest to set up and give the
best quality. I want these new streams to handle both broadband and dialup
users without sacrificing quality. My problem is i really really do not want

OGG --> MP3 conversion app?
hello all
does anyone know of a utility convert OGG to MP3 and prehapes MP3 to OGG?
While i use ogg for everything on my computer, my discman only plays MP3
files, so a nice program where i can drag and drop folders to reencode
to MP3 would be a very nice thing to have indeed. Kinda like oggdrop but
mp3drop.
if there isn't i might just attempt to write one (i'm just 1st year

Using a CBR when encoding to *.ogg
Greetings Fellow Vorbis Gurus!
How can I encode, using CDex, at a CBR (constant bit rate) rather than the VBR?
Also, can one take a 128kbs MP3 file and re-encode it to ogg? If so, please
explain the procedure.
By the way, I'm using a Windows based system.
Thank you!

mp3-wav-cd-audio "acoustically equivalent" to wav-cd-audio ?
A friend of mine made the following comment in a discussion I had with
him that on a website we adminster we should offer
a) WAV or maybe shorten files
b) Ogg as a decent reference lossy encoded version
He's been trying to convince me that we should offer MP3 (in lieu of
WAV) and possibly Ogg.
The audio files are primarily vocals

reencoding OGG Vorbis
Hi!
Inspired by the discussion about mixing Vorbis streams and so on I came
to the question whether Vorbisstreams can be, just like MP3, reencoded
without further loss.
As I heard, and I am pretty sure that it's true, MP3 files can be
decoded and reencoded unlimited times without further quality loss (of
course the same encoder with the same preferences has to be used all the
time). Is this

ices 0.2.2 does not reencode mp3s
I recently upgraded ices from 0.1.0 to 0.2.2. I have found that it
is not reencoding my mp3 stream, even though I have it configured to.
This is on a RedHat linux 7.0 system, kernel 2.4.11
ices build commands:
./configure --with-perl --with-lame \
--with-lame-includes=/usr/local/src/lame-3.89/include \
--with-lame-libraries=/usr/local/src/lame-3.89/libmp3lame/.libs

Playlist containing both MP3 and OGG
Hello,
I have both MP3 and OGG in my hard drive, since I used to use MP3 encoding and
now I'm trying to move to OGG vorbis. I am wondering if there's a way to
stream a playlist containing both MP3 and OGG files. As far as I understand
from reading the doc, Ices-0.4 and Ices2 can only stream MP3 and OGG files
respectively. So I just installed both. But is there a trick or something

Converting MP3 files to wav for Asterisk
Hi,
I am running a service where I play full songs but MP3 files kept on
crashing my server. I resorted to wav but the quality is really poor
after converting..or even sometimes not audible at all! Do you guys
know of a better way I can convert mp3 to wav and restore quality?
Below is the script I am using, I also tried the steps at

converting WAV to ogg
I am trying to convert some a few WAV files to ogg format (using
vorbis-tools-1.0beta4 oggenc).
I tried:

or floating point PCM
ERROR: Input file "nash.wav" is not a supported format
And:
splay -d - nash.wav | oggenc -r -o nash.ogg -
The resulting file when played with ogg123 played so

Format converters
Are direct bit-rate converters possible for Ogg Vorbis? Or do they
already exist?
Even more, is it possible to directly convert MP3/ATRAC3 (i.e., Sony
Minidisc) encoding to and from Ogg Vorbis?
There has been an earlier discussion on this question. But this
discussion centered around the fact that people couldn't see the point,
and were rather hostile to the idea.
There is a very good

Diference between volume of mp3 and wav files
Hi,
I have some files in mp3 in my Asterisk but when I play it the volume is lo=
wer than wav files. Both the files (wav and mp3) are encoded with the same =
amplitude. In anothers players the audio volume of these files are equal.
Can I fix this diference between volume of mp3 and wav file?
Thanks

broken ogg file
Hi, I have a broken ogg file. ogginfo reports the playback length as
1:14
Both xmms and ogg123 report the length correctly at 5:19.
So I re ripped the wav and re-encoded the file, same thing.
I am uploading the ogg at the moment (it might take an hour) if anyone
wants to have a look.

I dont know if it will help, but I really cant upload wav, a my modem

.wav to .ogg
Hi everyone, I am new programming with sound codecs. I am making a c++ application that needs to convert a .wav audio file to a .ogg one. If you can send me a demo or something similar I will be very pleased.
Thank you for your time,
Wanhaven.

Where's the tool to do .ogg bitrate "peeling"?
Hello.
The page http://www.vorbis.com/faq.psp (last faq) and
http://cs.leander.isd.tenet.edu/~mitchell/vorbis_intro.html both state
that it's possible to lower the bitrate of an existant ogg enc file
without reencoding. Where does this feature exists? oggenc only likes wav
files as input, how can I feed it an .ogg file and get a lower bitrate
in a new one?

My vision of how the players should work is this:
- make one album.flac with CUESHEET
- player loads album.flac, sees CUESHEET, calculates CDDB id
(or CDindex, or custom

MP3 to OGG conversion
I've done a little searching of the mailing lists before posting this
and found a few threads on converting from mp3 to ogg but no one that
I've seen ever answers the question.
a .wav file is a digital format is it not? I'm no video/audio guru by
any stretch so if I'm wrong on that point please correct me. But for
this message I'm going to assume .wav is a digital format. .mp3

Joining .WAV files with ogg-vorbis
By the way, I was delighted to find out that I could join .ogg files
with cat, i.e.
cat {file1.ogg} file2.ogg > outputfile.ogg
<p>I successfully used this capability, together with oggenc and sox, to
join two .WAV files in the following manner:

cat file1.ogg file2.ogg > outfile.ogg
ox outfile.ogg outfile.wav
