Easier OggDrop version
Hi. I think that the vorbis team should use this version of OggDrop RC3 as the official OggDrop RC3, because the menu interface is easier to use (& you can see what kind of mode you have chosen). http://www.inf.ufpr.br/~rja00/BQoggdropC1.zip See this thread for more info: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=4683 <p>I only have one problem now: what

FreeBSD - Secure by DEFAULT ?? [hosts.allow]
Hi, I need to know what the implications are to make use of the hosts.allow file on a FreeBSD Production Server (ISP Setup)? The reason I'm asking, is that I've recently decommisioned a Linux SendMail Server to a FreeBSD Exim Server, but with no Firewall (IPTABLES) yet. Besides the fact that it only runs EXIM and Apache, is it necessary to Configure rc.Firewall? or can I only make use of

2GB limit patch
Hi all, I was reading the discussion about this 1.3.0pre1 release on HydrogenAudio and someone linked an old thread in which one patched FLAC 1.2.1 to support WAV-files larger then 2GB. It might be worth investigating: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/?showtopic=84014#entry725304

Thats correct. Xiph is responsible for the FLAC source code. Xiph does not provide binaries for Linux, Windows or Mac.

FLAC 1.3.0 released
There are several links to Windows compiles in the Hydrogenaudio thread for FLAC 1.3.0 at http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=101082 . On Unices or Linuxes building from git should be straightforward enough, or you wait until the distributions/package maintainers catch up. Also, congratulations to the whole development team for reinvigorating FLAC! Christoph On

patent issues with Vorbis
Hi, We are in the business of developing/productizing Multimedia codecs for embedded systems. Recently, Vorbis has gained good popularity. We are also developing it. But we face few problems related to patents. Vorbis claims to be patent free. Is there any particular search made for possible patent infringements and corresponding report published? We need to convince our customers sometime

64kpbs listening test results
A large group 64kbps listening test has just come to an end, organised through the Hydrogenaudio[1] audio discussion board (and managed expertly by Roberto Amorim). Eight codecs were tested on twelve different samples, designed to cover a wide range of musical genres. The codecs tested were[2]: * Ahead/Nero 6.0.0.15 HE AAC VBR profile Streaming * Ogg Vorbis post-1.0 CVS -q 0 * MP3pro (from

Efficiency
Hi list users, Is there a comparison somewhere of the efficiency of decoding flac files, with respect to some benchmark related to cpu processing? As compared to, say, ape files? I ask because I have recently switched my entire archive from ape to flac. I have an old 400 mhz laptop in my office running xubuntu, which I run into a receiver. Works great. Since switching to flac, I notice the

[PATCH] Website comparison + fix IE
Hi all, The past few weeks I've been busy comparing lossless audio codecs to update the comparison.html page on the FLAC website (and because I wrote a comparison for Hydrogenaudio in the past) and its ready now. Because the patch is pretty large, I've placed it here: http://www.icer.nl/misc_stuff/update-comparison-and-fix-IE-news.patch.zip The reason to do this is because the

new CUESHEET metadata block
Hi all, I started up a discussion on Hydrogen Audio about a new FLAC metadata block for storing cuesheets. This is really the last missing piece in archiving CDs. Here's the link: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?act=ST&f=20&t=4646 I would appreciate any feedback anyone has on the subject. If it's not too inconvenient, try replying on the forum there (not sure if you

Apple's Core Audio File container format

This is also true for Ogg, but I don't think its true for the FLAC container format. >

Regain play analysis patches
Hello Earl, I used your patches while they cleanly applied to the Git tree. There is one question though, what do you think of?. http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=84086&st=0&p=782407&#entry782407 which apparently states (if I understand correctly) that your approach is not completely correct. [PATCH] Fix rice partition order documentation
Hi all, Someone over at Hydrogenaudio pointed me in the direction of this 'bug' report: http://sourceforge.net/p/flac/bugs/352/ I don't know what Josh was thinking (look at the comments section) but AFAIK it's just a documentation thing, maybe he confused partition order and rice parameter? Anyway, here are two patches that should 'fix' this. -------------- next part
