OGG in P2P networks?
I'm still looking for a P2P network (i.e. Gnutella, KaZaA, etc.) and client that actively supports the OGG format. People have told me that since Gnutella is so flexible that it is also possible to trade .ogg files. In reality, I haven't seen a single client using the Gnutella network that could search and truly FIND an .ogg file. Does anyone know of a network or specifically, a client

CPU load
Hello, >From time to time my computer freezes. I noticed it freezed when i transcoded from mp3 to ogg, with mp32ogg. Then later I noticed it freezed too when I encoded from wav to ogg with oggenc. When I use mp32ogg or oggenc, the CPU load is 99% during the process and the computer freezes after 10 minutes. But, I tried to load the CPU and bzip2 a large file during 30 minutes, but the

Debian mp3->vorbis transcoding
In case there are any Debian developers around here, I wanted to point out message <20020828154322.GA15114@chulak.naquadah.org> on the debian-devel list this morning. Another Debian developer is proposing to submit an mp3->vorbis transcoding program for inclusion in Debian. I have objected to this on the grounds that the resulting vorbis files will sound like crap, and I have also pointed

MP3 to OGG conversion
I've done a little searching of the mailing lists before posting this and found a few threads on converting from mp3 to ogg but no one that I've seen ever answers the question. a .wav file is a digital format is it not? I'm no video/audio guru by any stretch so if I'm wrong on that point please correct me. But for this message I'm going to assume .wav is a digital format. .mp3

Suggestions/Pointers on where to begin my search for a solution?
Hi- I''m working in the IT department of a small liberal arts university-- we''re getting *massacred* by P2P traffic. Informal testing/probing indicates that about 60% of our traffic from the dorms was P2P-- we''ve taken the initial step of hardlimiting the dorms to no more than 40% of outgoing university bandwidth. Also, we''ve blocked the

Speex into a wav file

Well, it's possible to put compressed data into the WAV file instead of PCM audio data, and set the compression-type format flag to some made-up value, but

Fast quality reduction transcoding
Hi, After a quick read of the Theora spec, I became curious about the possibility of fast quality reduction of Theora videos. The idea is to decode through the Huffman and reverse prediction steps, and then to truncate the coefficients and reencode. My questions are: * Is this a reasonable way to reduce the quality and bitrate of a stream? Will it be comparable in quality to a complete

Digitially Imported radio - let's ask for Vorbis
Digitally Imported radio (http://di.fm) is considering adding Ogg Vorbis streams and I'd love to see that happen. Probably they are trying to get an idea how many people will use the Vorbis streams to decide if it will be worthwhile (they're also considering other formats--WMA, mp3pro, and other evils). So if you are a DI listener, please make your voice heard that WE WANT OGG! There

Is transcoding a bad thing?
Hi there, up till now I had this two-box setup in mind: * no.1: public IP * no.2: private IP, registers with no.1, serves a small office with clients behind NAT See we'd get something like this: SIP client (GSM) --> *1 --> IAX2 (iLBC) --> *2 --> G.711 --> MGCP UA The codec of the SIP client (on the Internet) I don't have full control over, that depends on the

[OT] Prior art & could use your help - Content distribution
[NOTE: This message may be regarded off-topic. Please reply privately only, not to the list.] Hi all! Over the past few months, I've been collaborating with a few people on subjects that fall in the category of web radio. (In case you don't know what that is: imagine a radio with built-in analog modem that receives and plays MP3 or rather Vorbis streams from the net.) Of course such a

Specifying a view template
I''m new to Rails (and liking it!) and I have multiple controllers, each of which has a method which uses a view template which is identical to what the others use. I would like to be able to have just one template to maintain that they can all use. What is the customary way to do this? I tried using render_action to specify the template explicitly, and it "works". But I

Transcoded G.722 calls unintelligible with recent SVN head
For about 10 months I have been running a succession of Asterisk SVN trunk versions on an Athlon 64 X2 4400+ based machine with OpenSuSE 10.2 at my home. I have a variety of SIP phones (mostly Polycom) internally; my external connections are two POTS lines on a TDM400P (with HPEC) and an IAX2 link to a VoIP provider. I had Asterisk configured to allow G.722 and u-law on the Polycom phones,

Volume of patches for CentOS vs Fedora
I'm trying to come to a decision between CentOS 4.2 and Fedora Core 4 for use on a server. One of the things the server will be serving is X desktops so there are some advantages to Fedora. However, one thing I can't help but notice is that the patch volume for FC4 from Oct 11 2005 thru the present compared to CentOS 4.2 for the same period is about 5 times greater. In fact, since

Transcode from AAC to MP3 (or vice versa)
Hi To continue the interesting streamTranscode thread but in a slightly different direction, I have a user station that would like to send us a 64kbps AAC stream and have us transcode that to 64kbps MP3 and 32kbps AAC - is this possible? Points to consider: a) we would be happy to go with another permutation such as: she sends us 64kbps MP3 and we convert that to 64kbps AAC and 32kbps ACC. b)

Cannot save/migrate domains
Hi, I had a problem trying to migrate domains, in trying to locate it I noticed that saving domains doesn''t work either, which I believe explains why the receiving xfrd doesn''t actually receive anything. So here it goes... xenone:/tmp# xm list Name Id Mem(MB) CPU State Time(s) Console Domain-0 0 123 0 r---- 900.6 sky 9
