Help on drawing stars and radars in R (update)
Hi
I don't know if you can help. I am a 2nd year Bsc Cosmetic Science student and in R I need some help in drawing stars.
The problem that I have is I want to recreate a radar diagram similar to the one in excel.
I have put in these commands in a script window:
stars(shampoo1[, 1:6], locations = c(0,0), radius = TRUE,
key.loc=c(0,0),
main = "Ranked Results for the Sensory

[RFC] I've made a huge mistake
LLVM-Dev,
I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I've spent the last several months in severe denial of the problem and I just can't keep denying it to myself anymore. I've made a huge mistake. We never should have removed autoconf support.
I've come to this conclusion after a great deal of thoughtful reflection on the impact of our CMake build system over the last year.

Protection for removable hard drive
My apologies if this is a bit off topic...
I am going to start doing backups to removable hard drives and I will
need to send these hard drives to an off-site storage facility. I am
looking for some way to protect the drives after I pull them out of the
system. I was hoping to find some kind of clamshell enclosure similar
to what is used with external hard drives, but so far I haven't found

VQ codebook sanity check (please help)
Hello folks,
The codebook infrastructure for Vorbis is now well underway. This is it! The
last piece needed for *real* bitstreams.
To that end, I have a decent VQ codebook generator running. I was originally
using some farily typical merge/split algorithms and then decided that the
right way to do this was to model a VQ codebook as an m-dimensional set of
bubbles (like a foam).
I know there

rant on browser makers (was something about updating TD''s)

Remove IE 6 and I agree, hahahaha. Actually, I hate Mozilla''s box model
(I know it''s the w3c recommended one, but it''s flawed. Width and height
should include padding and borders.

10 Gigabit Ethernet and Samba
Do anyone have any experience using 10 Gigabit Ethernet connections with
Samba? Specifically, if you have had such an experience, can you share what
sorts of optimizations you made to get the maximum data transfer between server
and workstation?
I am just experimenting with this kind of setup myself and I see a huge GULF
between the raw TCP/IP transfers that I can make between two

Thunderbird update without announcement?
Hi,
I usually receive updates after the related announcement has hit my
inbox. But today I see a thunderbird update, but no message on
centos-announce yet, not even in the archives.

Lossy Audio Compression Research
Hello everyone,
I'm a student at the Universtiy of Delaware, and will be soon starting
some research on the effects of lossy audio compression on speech sounds. I
will be preforming test with both mp3 and vorbis.
First of all, if I use the '--ogg' switch to lame, does lame use GPSYCHO
to encode the wave, or some other psychoacoustic model (perhaps one designed for

Removing Vorbis tags
Hello everyone,
Was wondering if there was an option or program somewhere that can delete all tags associated with an Ogg Vorbis file?

Nouveau on GeForce 7950GTX (NV49)
Hi everyone,
I just finished installing the current git of the nouveau driver for
my NV49 based 7950GTX. I attempted this because I've been continually
frustrated by the constantly degrading 2D performance of X under the
nvidia and nv drivers. Webpages that do any kind of compositing in
Mozilla will burn CPU all day long.
I'm happy to say that I'm writing because I didn't have

Ogg and Vorbis questions

one logical bitstream arranged end to end (the only form of Ogg

Noise Cancellation of Server Noise
Has anyone come across a device that could cancel out the noise from servers, ie. the fan noise? I have a server rack near my office and would like to see if i can decrease the noise level. It would seem to me that the steady drone of the fans could be cancelled out to a large extent.

please help with estimation of true correlations and reliabilities
Can someone point me to literature and/or R software to solve the following
problem:
Assume n true scores t measured as x with uncorrelated errors e , i.e.
x = t + e
and assume each true score to a have a certain amount of correlation with
some of the other true scores.
The correlation matrix cx of x will have its off-diagonal entries reduced by
measurement error compared to the true
