Winamp 2.80 Vorbis problem confirmed on my comp
I first downloaded Winamp Lite, which did not have Vorbis
plugin, and installed the latest PP Vorbis plugin:
http://www.blorp.com/~peter/zips/in_vorbis.exe
That did not work, for some reason.
Afterwards, I downloaded the Standard version and tried playing
ogg files: it didn't work either. I installed the latest PP
Vorbis plugin over this version, but still the same.
What's up??

sound quality
i'm recently started to encode my cd's into ogg vorbis format
(192kb/s), and i am very much pleased with the quality.
however, i will certainly feel awful after encoding 1gb of files
and beta5 comes out, claiming to increase the sound quality. in
other words, should i be using ogg vorbis for long-term audio
storage without fear that those files are crappy quality and

TwinVQ versus The World
The last few threads have really been interesting. Technologies
that are currently on the market are MP3, RealAudio, and Windows
Media (pre-version8). Technologies currently in progress or
just shipped are Ogg Vorbis and mp3pro. I don't think anyone
has mentioned TwinVQ on this list. While exploring alternatives
to MP3 (which is when I also found Vorbis), I noticed TwinVQ. I

use of lm() and poly()
Hi all,
I want to fit data called "metal" with a polynominal function as dP ~ a.0 +
a.1 * U0 + a.2 * U0^2 + a.3 * U0^3 + a.4 * U0^4
The data set includes, the independant variable U0 and the dependant
variable dP.
I've seen that the combination of lm() and poly() can do that instead of
using the nls() function.
But I don't get how to interpret the results from the linear

need help on nlme()
Hello there,
I am using nlme() to fit a logistic mixed effect model on our data.
The outcome variable is binary.
I got the error when I wanted to add a group factor to my model.
My initial model is as below:
model.a <- nlme(response~ 1/(1 + exp( -intercept- u0 - slope*TIME -
u1*TIME)),
+ fixed=intercept+slope~1, random= u0+u1~1

Pseudo-random numbers between two numbers
I would like to generate pseudo-random numbers between two numbers using
R, up to a given distribution,
for instance, rnorm.
That is something like rnorm(HowMany,Min,Max,mean,sd) over
rnorm(HowMany,mean,sd).
I am wondering if
dnorm(runif(HowMany, Min, Max), mean, sd)
is good. Any idea? Thanks.

Duplicate filename with Samba 3.0.28
Hello,
I'm having an odd problem that I can't find a resolution to.
I have a Freebsd 6.2 server with recently upgrade samba software (from
3.0.26a) and an WinXP client. There's a single file:
1015280 -rw-r--r-- 1 userid staff 991M Jan 7 09:13 fbsdusb.img
shared from \\server\tmp, that appears twice when browsed from WinXP.
If I rename it (i.e. fbsdUSB.img or fbsdusb.iso) or

6.2 - How to check for a failed disk using LVM with a hardware RAID (3ware)
CentOS Community,
What commands can I use to check the disk health of the system when LVM2
is being used on top of a RAID 10 using a HARDWARE 3ware raid card. The
OS sees a hardware raid usually as one big drive. Is there a way to
check the disks individually to see if any are failing, or throwing hard
or scsi transport errors?

Pointer to covariates?
In the first line, use the dist function, found in library mva,
to get the distance between each pair of rows. From this
calculate an incidence matrix for which element i,j is true if
row i in dat equals row j in dat (and false elsewhere).
In the second line, for each row calculate the indices of
the matching rows and take the minimum of those as the key.

Reordering of load/stores using MemorySSA
Hello all,
It seems that it is insufficient to
rely on MemorySSA to correctly reorder load/stores.
For example, we have this following code:
v = load q
store 10, p
=>
store 10, p
v = load q // This is incorrect if p and q may alias
In the MemorySSA representation however,
there's no syntactic dependency between load/store,
because MemorySSA before transformation would look like this:
