MOSIX and ext3-fs
Hi all !!!
I have got a MOSIX-Cluster and wanted to upgrade to ext3-fs, but that didn't work out.
The ext3-fs patch FAILED to patch the MOSIX-kernel and if I tried to apply the ext3-
patch before, the MOSIX-patch failed.
Can someone help me with that ? Perhaps someone knows of a conclusion for that
problem or can tell me where to get a MOSIX-patch for 2.4.15.
I would be glad to hear from

RECORDNUMBER
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi!
I am going to encode almost 2000(!) CDs to OGG soon and I will use the tag
RECORDNUMBER (as opposed to TRACKNUMBER) to indicate which record in a
multi-cd-album it is. Maybe I'll also use the tag RECORDNAME if the record
also has a name (eg Nine Inch Nails/Fragile's records are called Left and
Right).
Please make this tag (at least

computational capacity of Linux network
Hi, This is not an R question per ce, but I feel like this is a right
community to ask it.
As a part of our work we run a lot of non-interactive computational jobs. To
increase the throughput we would like to distribute the load over the entire
network and we are looking at Linux network as a platform. Ideally we would
like to be able to submit a job to the network, rather than to a computer,

Yes, you can: whenever you are unable to make a decent backup at least once
a week, your diskspace must be considered to big.

Running R under Mosix
Mosix is a cluster operating system that is a set of
kernel patches to Linux on i386 machines. It allows
processes to migrate to other nodes on the cluster
transparently. See www.mosix.org for details. However,
my R processes were refusing to migrate.
Using strace, and delving into the R code, I found
that it was due to a large number of calls to the system
setjmp and longjmp routines - the

extremely noticeable artifact (britney-bug)
I really don't know if this is the same problem that was reported by Ingo
Saitz (I really couldn't say which one was 128kbit and which was the
original wav when blind-testing. The original had some distortion that
perhaps does somehting with my cheapo soundcard) but here's a description
of what i've found:

Playing with ReadFileScatter()
Hi all,
Looking at the IO.readlines source in io.c, it looks to me like they
grab 8k chunks, split on the input record separator, and buffer accordingly.
Since it looks like ReadFileScatter() does some of that work
automatically (in page file sized chunks), I thought I''d give it a try.
Here''s what I''ve got, but it doesn''t work. I have an incorrect parameter

transferring individual files question, pull vs. push
Can't seem to find the answer anywhere...
I'm currently using an rsync script on the source box to transfer some
individual files to the destination box...all works well. The script:
rsync -e ssh \
/var/qmail/control/file1 \
/var/qmail/control/file2 \
/var/qmail/control/file3 \
/var/qmail/control/file4 \
destination-box.xxxxx.com:/var/qmail/control
Now, instead of "pushing"

Using log() on an openMosix cluster
Hi all, I was hoping to get some advice about a problem that I realize
will be difficult to reproduce for some people. I'm running R 1.7.1 on
an openMosix (Linux) cluster and have been experiencing some odd
slow-downs. If anyone has experience with such a setup (or a similar
one) I'd appreciate any help. Here's a simplified version of the problem.
I'm trying to run the

My last post buggered - FWD about patch version2
No idea why my last post buggered, so here's what I meant to send
(attached is his actual patch):
Hi!
I made a little patch I'd like to see integrated (if appropriate)
which makes Compiz usable in desktop+TV-out setups. It adds the
--only-current-screen option to compiz which tell it to only manage
the screen defined by $DISPLAY and leave the others alone.

Dear all,
I wrote the following batch script on a iMac, and ran it on a linux
mosix cluster.

tu_reshaped <- t(reshape(tu[1:50,], direction="wide", timevar="tu", idvar=c("rna","lib")))
write.table(tu_reshaped, "cage.mm5.tags.rna_lib.CAA-CAJ.tu-reshaped.table")

Samba using Virtual Servers (load balancing)
Hello fellow samba users,
Our company uses samba for all fileshares/printing/PDC on
two SUN E3500's. We like to replace these with about 10
Linux 19" XEON (pizza)boxes. The question: Are there
any implementation out there using a loadbalancing cluster
doing samba?
A simple diagram of the setup I have in mind:

Ranking correlation with R
Hey Everyone,
Im fresh new in R, and Im supposed to write a code to give me a correlation
between two rankings. So I have two ranking lists, which contain file names,
e.g.:
Ranking list 1:

file2.java
Ranking list 2:
fiile2.java

I need to see how much are these two ranking lists are alike, get a
correlation between them. I dont even know where to

Problem in the path for executables...
Hi,
I have a windows executable which I am trying to run in Linux using wine.
When I execute the command :
wine {ABSOLUTE_PATH}/file1.exe,
file1.exe runs many other executables internally, like file2.exe, file3.exe
and file4.exe.
Now when file1.exe is trying to run the other executables, it is not able to
get the path of the executables. I have the "PATH" enironment variable set
