Samba performance
Hi everyone, I'm trying to use samba in a small video post production house but we are not getting the performance we expected. Our setup: - CenOS 5.6 x86-64 - samba.x86_64 (3.0.33-3.29.el5_6.2 and 3.6.0rc1) - Intel based server (One 4 core Xeon E5620 @ 2.40GHz, 8 GB RAM) - 4 Intel Gigagit ethernet NIC ports with 802.3ad bonding connected to a switch configured tu use 802.3ad - 8 2TB 7.2

Decent Performance
Hi all, I am trying to get some decent speed out of a vanilla Debian (Proxmox) box and am running out of ideas. Basically I can exchange data at 110MB/sec (raw, nfs, ftp) but not with Samba shares. I tried almost every samba tuning tip I could find to no avail. The only optimisation left to smb.conf at the moment is debug level = 0. As one can see the robocopy throughput is merely half of what

test fails when requesting LC_CTYPE
On RedHat Enterprise Linux 6, the test below fails (this is using the stock GCC 4.4.7) from R-devel r72707. LC_CTYPE is unset when I run it, but LANG=en_US.UTF-8 It also failed "yesterday" where as far as I recall the test code looked a bit different. Samba 3: bad read performance
??Hi all! We use Samba 3 server for some video stuff (editing, rendering, and so on) -- that's why performance is critical. We've tried a lot smb.conf options, but Samba can't satisfy our requirements. Our server configuration is as following: * Hard drive: RAID5 (8 x Seagate 7200.10), 3ware 9550SX-8LP controller * NICs (trunked): 2 x Broadcom NetXtreme BCM5704 * Processor: Opteron

Memory issue
Reading a flat text file 138 Mbyte large into R with a combination of scan (to get the header) and read.table. After conversion of text time stamps to POSIXct and conversion of integer codes to factors I convert everything into one data frame and release the old structures containing the data by using rm(). Strangely, the rm() does not appear to reduce the used memory. I checked using

tinc throughput on alix machines
Hi, I've setup a wlan ap using a an alix 2d2 (AMD Geode LX 500 Mhz + AES Offload) and am now trying to encapsulate the wlan traffic into a vpn (tap bridge). Though even when disabling crypto and digest (there is a crypto engine onboard can be setup to handle tinc encryption), the best throughput I get is aroung 2,9 MByte per second (wget+http) (even if the client is run locally). The network

Request for feedback
A number of years back it became necessary to limit the size of messages that could be posted to the samba mailing list. The current limit is 64 KBytes. While it continues be be desirable to block large spam messages, I believe it is time to ask current subscribers for their preferences. This list is here to serve the wishes and needs of our subscribers. We wonder if the time is right to review

new idea for dragdrop library
Hi, I''ve been working on new ideas for a JavaScript drag and drop library. I haven''t found a drag and drop library flexible enough for my needs and I think I have come up with something that is generally worthwhile. I use the DOM and Event utilities from Yahoo! UI and no Prototype.js. I''m interested in any ideas or suggestions people might have. Blog

allofmp3.com provides ogg downloads
In case anyone is interested, there is a great online music store at allofmp3.com that features $0.01 (USD) per Mbyte download. Since they are based in Russia, they pay very low royalties. The kicker is that they encode to your requested format, including ogg/vorbis at whatever quality or bitrate setting you want. Downloading legal ogg's to my iRiver iHP-120.... Oh, the bliss.....

chan_oh323.so: Segmentation Fault
Hi, I'm trying to get H323 support using asterisk 0.4.0 Unfortunately the pwlib and openh323 versions mentioned in the asterisk-oh323 readme file are no more available, and I had to use newer ones. Now I installed all libraries, but got a segemntion fault when starting asterisk while reading the chan_oh323.conf file. When I declare more than 9 gwprefix I get first a error "out of

tbf : rate and effective speed (newbie)
Probably this is an old question, but i''m not able to find nothing about... So, i''ve just started to play with tc to limit the transfer speed to my hdsl connection. I''m using the tbf and the command # tc qdisc add dev eth0 root tbf rate 10kbit latency 50ms burst 1000 Then i''ve tried to transfer a big (20 Mbyte) file onto my lan, using ftp and the client

bug on --partial
Hi, Sorry if this is well known. Suposse I am transferring a large (by now) file, say 1Gbyte with --partial: rsync -e ssh -a --partial 1gbfile server: If process is interrumpted, temporary file is renamed to good filename with size samall than original, say 400Mbyte, ok. If from client I do again the same command, then, in server the 400Mbyte file is COPIED to another temporary file, but this

extlinux 3.20-pre8 notes
hi Peter, everyone, I recently installed extlinux on my CF drive. after a few botches, it works, with menu.c32 too. Heres a few notes/observations: - menuing seems pretty sensitive to presence of tabs in extlinux.conf, unlike with pxelinux.cfg/default, Is this an oversight, or something Im misremembering ? - extlinux doesnt have the timeout after menu-choice. if I dont choose, it times out and

Horrendously slow transfer speeds in FC3 is driving me crazy!!! Please help...
I found that for a modern PC running zero loads, (my server is a P4 3.2 with 512 M dual channel RAM an Intel Etherpro Express 100 nic, serving cached disk files from RAM) samba could be 30% slower than it should be. It would serve data at about 7 MBytes/sec compared with the old NT4 sever (same Intel nic, 512 RAM, P2/266 Cpu, NT4 with SP6a) that would do it at 10 Mbytes/sec under all

Re: ZFS hangs systems during copy

How much memory is installed? I''m able to hang an Ultra 60 with 256 MByte of main memory, simply by writing big files to a ZFS filesystem. The problem happens with both Solaris 10 6/2006 and Solaris
