*, Fritz!PCI and strange behavior
I'm testing * (CVS-09/16/03-02:07:49 with zaprtc 0.0.1) with Fritz!PCI (chan_capi 0.3.0), and have a couple of funny things - I wonder if anyone else has seen them: - Now and then, * just exits. Until now I had lowish-level verbosity on, so all I saw was 'Executing last minute cleanups'. What can trigger * exits? (in other words, what should I pay attention to when attempting to

Problem with Yum on CentOS 5.4
Hi, I recently downloaded and burned the 5.4 DVD ISO. All my machines are now running 5.4, but these are installs I performed with 5.0, 5.1, 5.2 etc. and then progressively upgraded. Now I had to use 5.4 because a friend's laptop, a brandnew Fujitsu Esprimo Mobile, refuses to boot anything under 5.4. After a fresh install of the base system, first thing I do is 'yum update' with

Preference of Linux flavors
I recently set up a Linux machine after several years of being stuck with only Windows. I've used Linux from as far back as when you had to load Slackware from a stack of floppies. When I loaded Linux on my current machine I picked Fedora just because I was familiar with Red Hat. Now, I'm beginning to question the wisdom that decision. Fedora seems a bit too Windows-like for my tastes.

Commandline utility to edit ID3 tags?
Hi, I'm running a webradio on our brandnew CentOS 5.1 database server. (The main purpose of this radio is fun, sure, but it's also a bit like a canary in a coalmine...) It's based on Icecast, MPD and NCMPC and works great. I'm configuring the server remotely via SSH, no X. Is there any commandline utility to edit ID3 tags? Cheers, Niki

Some very early RC1 results
Hi all, I started testing the RC1 encoder at ftp://sjeng.sourceforge.net/pub/sjeng/oggdrop.exe (based on branch_monty_20010708) On the songs I have tested so far (not much :) I did not hear any stereo issues, but there are some very noticeable problems with the produced files. Songs without much high-end will suddenly have one when encoded. (you'd expect it the other way around) It

icecast 1.3.11 problems under openbsd
Hello, I am running icecast 1.3.11 under OpenBSD 2.8-STABLE. On a first look, everything works fine, but after ~1.5 hours of streaming, clients start losing the stream and have to rebuffer every couple minutes. While this happens, the prepuffering starts to take a couple times longer than it did before. It seems to work fine again now that I reconnected both client and streamer, but it appears

Problem installing RCS on SXCE
I was shocked to find no RCS on SXCE 107. I needed it to update some RCS archives I had copied over. No problem - go to sunfreeware and copy it over. No OpenSolaris branch? The Solaris 10 package should work. Only the package install appears to complete and does not - as documented only in a log file, not on my screen. OK then, the source for RCS should be easily compiled and installed, I

ices 0.3 released
I've just released ices 0.3: http://icecast.org/files/ices/ices-0.3.tar.gz ices 0.3 is an encoder for icecast-compatible servers (including icecast 2, icecast 1 and shoutcast). It requires libshout 2.0. ices 0.3 outputs MP3, not Vorbis. For Vorbis you will need ices 2. We know this is confusing, so ices 0.x will probably have a new name for the next release. Ideas? Changes since ices

listening conditions
Hi! What are the assumed listening conditions in vorbis ? For example there are big differences in perceived sound when listening with headphones compared to listening with speakers. ( "super stereo effect" , different frequency response due to HRTF etc ... ). Is this stuff worth considering in a vorbis class encoder ? David Balazic --- >8 ---- List archives:

Encoder differences, beta4 -> 1.0rc1
Hi all, Were there encoder differences between beta4 and 1.0rc1? A precompiled oggenc for Windows identifies itself as beta4, and from a certain mono file produces 53.3 kb/s files, whereas one I've compiled myself, identifying itself as 1.0rc1, produces 55.9 kb/s. Is this a feature or a bug? Also, all the links to images at the top of: http://www.vorbis.com/download_win.psp are broken.

Can I encode now?
I saw the news about release 1.0 coming up this weekend, but was wondering if there is any reason not to encode now with the pre-release software I have. I want to use CDex with its Ogg support ("Ogg Vorbis DLL Encoder version 1.04, engine 1.04) to replace my MP3 files with Ogg -- and would like to start this weekend while I have the time. Any advice or suggestions appreciated... -- dave
