Compiling Asterisk with G.723.1
Hello, I am relatively new to Asterisk and I need to compile the G.723.1 codec for Asterisk. I downloaded the ITU source code, placed it in the codecs directory, but apparently Asterisk needs a rather different library than the one provided from ITU. As I've seen in the mailing list archives, there are quite a few users who were able to compile G.723.1 in *, so, could someone kindly share it

Fraunhoffer claims patents on other formats
Here in the uk, to get a patent on anything, you have to prove that the patent is not obvious and that there is no prior art. If there is prior art, then a patent cannot be given, this is why people patenting stuff have to keep it a secret until they actually have the patent, otherwise it is considered to have been released into the public domain. Once something is in the public domain, nobody

Congratulations to Kamailio - Infoworld Best of Open Source Awards
Friends, I would like to congratulate kamailio.org - a project we're cooperating a lot with. They have just been awarded the BOSSIE award by InfoWorld. Kamailio is the OpenSER SIP proxy project with a new name, a product widely used in Asterisk installations. And of course, the motivation mentions Asterisk :-) From InfoWorld site: "Award winners in network and network

Slow Mapped Drive
I have a couple Samba servers running on Solaris (9 4/04) & FreeBSD (5.21) that work well (can't remember which version of Samba). I have a Windows XP Pro box with SP2 on my client. I've set up a Samba server on a Mandrake 9 Linux box (I think it's Samba 3.04) and when I browse to it via Network Neighborhood, I get right in. If I map a drive from my XP client, every time I

The poisoned NUL byte
Summary: you can exploit a single-byte buffer overrun to gain root privs. When, half a day after releasing version 2.2beta37 of the Linux nfs server, I received a message from Larry Doolittle telling me that it was still vulnerable to the root exploit posted to bugtraq, I was ready to quit hacking and start as a carpenter... Tempting as that was, I didn''t, and started looking for the

Problems with SMBCLIENT
Hi all, I am running SunOS 5.5.1 and am getting all sorts of problems. I am urgently in need of help. My Unix skills are limited. My first problem is starting the daemons. bind failed on port 139 socket_addr=0 (Address already in use) My second problem is the difference in the number of files dumped with either smbtar or smbclient. Here is the command that gives me the most problems. Notice

Windows Firewall, network discovery
A couple of weeks ago, I asked for help with getting tinc to work with a couple of issues. I prioritize my hobby projects below essential things, and I'm a bit scatterbrained when there's an internet connection, so it took awhile before I finished trying the things you suggested, and got to a point where I was stuck again. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions! I set

Hz vs bitrate?
the Vorbis FAQ says: "mid to high quality (8kHz-48.0kHz, 16+ bit, polyphonic) audio and music at fixed and variable bitrates from 16 to 128 kbps/channel." What is the difference between Hz and bitrate? Doesn't MP3 support higher bitrates? Pointers for more reading are welcome.
