Ptalarbvorm ffmpeg2theora Windows binary
ffmpeg2theora nightly builds found at http://firefogg.org/nightly/ still uses Thusnelda. Where can I get a Ptalarbvorm version for Windows? Regards

Update on Ptalarbvorm
Hi there, I was wondering if someone closer to the work happening in the Ptalarbvorm branch could be so kind as to provide a little update on progress? I've heard tidbits from around the web that the improvement over 1.1 is at least as much as 1.1 was itself over 1.0. I know that myself and many others found Monty's occasional updates on Thusnedla development to be absolutely fascinating

New experimental theora implementation
Derf's from-scratch alternate implementation of the theora codec is now publicly available from our subversion repository. http://svn.xiph.org/experimental/derf/theora-exp/ This exciting new codebase promises superiour performance, and the encoder is capable of higher quality output than the current represenation, taking advantage of the bitstream extension we've added to the

Ptalarbvorm Update?
To my recollection, there hasn't been any talk about Ptalarbvorm. Is Ptalarbvorm development ditched? (I have noticed some commits for it every now and then, but nothing like the amount of commits last year) -- Daniel Hendrycks -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Theora Intra (ptalarbvorm) vs. MJPEG
In the discussion of having a freedom-friendly camcorder or other video device, we discussed the idea of using intra-only Theora video to make post-recording editing a much easier process, allowing things like frame-by-frame editing without the need to decode and reencode the video again, thus incurring loss. I was quite skeptical of the efficiency of intra-only Theora, and I had speculated that

further debugging of my ogg/theora decoder
Hi, I am continuing to try to debug my ogg/theora decoder. The issue seems to be that not enough packets are being pulled from the bitstream, here is some sample output from my player with some debugging comments put in: (playback began at first frame, this is from the middle of the clip) get page at 1765027 got packet frame++, skip is 0 frame decoded page processed, kframe=414 : offs=442 get

Webcam streaming with ptalarbvorm
Hey all! I'm sure you've all been missing my webcam stream, so I decided to start it up again (also, I wanted to do it for my family overseas). However, this time, I'm doing things a little bit differently. For starters, the encoder is the current (as of about an hour ago) ptalarbvorm branch which is destined to become libtheora 1.2. Another difference is that I'm using

release priorities
So, release priorities. I have all of derf's proposed bitstream changes accounted for in the reference encoder, if not supported in the decoder. These are going to be released as alpha 3 to get the new bitstream changes out for wider testing while we work on spec and implementations of the extensions. The remaining issue is the broken buffering in splayer. I'll take care of that

Seek issue in cortado player
One of the issues I've consistently run into with the cortado player app is seek behavior, so I was curious to see how cortado handles video encoded with the latest ffmpeg2theora (0.26) and the new -seek-index option, so I tried converting an h.264 video: ffmpeg2theora tronlegacy-tsr1_480p.mov --seek-index This output the following advisory messages: > Allocated 372 bytes for theora

gcc 3.2 warnings
This is mostly for derf, but others may be interested too. Attached are the warnings (stderr log) from compling theora under gcc 3.2.3 (Debian). There quite a few. Many of them are spurious, but some indicate real bugs. In particular it seems likely we have more unitialized variables since Dan reports differing encoder output depending on the compiler used. In general, we need to go through

File size comparisons
Hi all, I just did a brief test with 3 different codec combinations: 1) ffmpeg sorenson/flv, mp3 audio in flv container 2) ffmpeg h264/vorbis audio/matroska 3) ogg/theora/vorbis using encoder_example Here are the results: 10721201 2010-10-16 14:46 origem1.flv 20731108 2010-09-13 23:04 origem1.mkv 33101703 2010-10-03 11:24 origem1.ogv as you can see, flv wins hands down, and it doesn't look

Updates to development?
Hi, again. Are there any updates to the development of Theora? Like a version 1.2? I ask this because I want to be re-assured Theora is not just sitting while people are choosing H.264... -- Daniel Hendrycks -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... spare bits in the theora keyframe header
Monty, Derf and I were discussing some theora bitstream improvements. He was curious about the spare bits in the keyframe header. There's a keyframe type bit which is always DCT_KEY_FRAME aka '0' and two spare bits. You took out a lot of similar extra bits in the VP3 code. Do you remember anything about the motivation for leaving this one in? Given the constant, were there plans

encoding raw file (.yuv) using ffmpeg2theora
Hello! I'm trying to use ffmpeg2theora to encode raw (.yuv) files in I420 format (just frames, no headers at all), but failed to find corresponding input format. Is there any documentation of supported formats for ffmpeg2theora? Or maybe there is another command-line tool for Windows to encode raw video using Theora algorithm? Thank you for help! Alexander.

Theora Intra (ptalarbvorm) vs. MJPEG
(I am sending this same message to theora-dev because I think it applies to development discussion as well as user discussion.) dead DCSearchPoints code
Dan, In reviewing the code, derf came across the DCSearchPoints array in QuadCodeDisplayFragments(), encode.c:696. It looks like it specifies a search order for nearby coded fragments for prediction if there isn't a nearest neighbor. However, the upper search bound is defined as *0*, so the search loop (line 917) is never executed and it always falls back to the last coded fragment.

Google Puts Weight Behind Theora
"... we need a baseline to work from - one standard format that (if all else fails) everything can fall back to. This doesn?t need to be the most complex format, or the most advertised format, or even the format with the most companies involved in its creation. All it needs to do is to be available, everywhere. The codec in the frame for this is Ogg Theora..." :)

How to encode with frame offset ?
Hi all, looking at the theora spec, it says that it is possible to encode a video with a frame offset for the actual image. How is it possible to do that ? I don't see any option for it in the encoder_example. [PATCH]: PPC/Altivec implementations of SAD and SSD
Hi, This patch adds Altivec-optimized implementations of oc_enc_frag_sad and oc_enc_frag_ssd. This patch is against the latest svn revision of theora-ptalarbvorm. Speeds up encode on a plant stop-motion clip on a 1 GHz PPC 7447 by ~3%, timewise. Time spent in oc_enc_frag_sad is reduced from 4.2% to 2.3% and oc_enc_frag_ssd from 1.2% to 1.0%, as reported by Shark. Currently this is only
