Beginner Hurdles
Hey everyone, I just got Theora running on my Mac, and ran across several hurdles, that I was wondering if someone could help me with. I do a lot of tech support at work, and get the same questions over and over, so I tried skimming the archives but couldn't find the answers. Maybe these could go in a FAQ of some sort? These are fairly unavoidable issues that should probably be

File size comparisons
Hi all, I just did a brief test with 3 different codec combinations: 1) ffmpeg sorenson/flv, mp3 audio in flv container 2) ffmpeg h264/vorbis audio/matroska 3) ogg/theora/vorbis using encoder_example Here are the results: 10721201 2010-10-16 14:46 origem1.flv 20731108 2010-09-13 23:04 origem1.mkv 33101703 2010-10-03 11:24 origem1.ogv as you can see, flv wins hands down, and it doesn't look

How to encode with frame offset ?
Hi all, looking at the theora spec, it says that it is possible to encode a video with a frame offset for the actual image. How is it possible to do that ? I don't see any option for it in the encoder_example. further debugging of my ogg/theora decoder
Hi, I am continuing to try to debug my ogg/theora decoder. The issue seems to be that not enough packets are being pulled from the bitstream, here is some sample output from my player with some debugging comments put in: (playback began at first frame, this is from the middle of the clip) get page at 1765027 got packet frame++, skip is 0 frame decoded page processed, kframe=414 : offs=442 get

Ptalarbvorm is now in trunk
We're about ready to do a 1.2 alpha release from the ptalarbvorm tree, and as such it's no longer experimental. I've replaced the theora svn trunk with a copy of derf's experimental tree; please do subsequent development toward the release there. The old 1.1.x trunk is available as http://svn.xiph.org/branches/theora-1.1 if you need it. -r

some questions about swfdec
Hi there, I am salsaman, main developer of LiVES (http://lives.sf.net), videojack, etc. I am looking into swfdec with a view to making it accessible to more projects (for example feeding the output into videojack to allow streaming over a local lan video network; mixing the swfdec output with other video sources/effects to allow vjing/capturing the stream, etc). I have a couple of questions:

Is there something like qt-faststart for theora?
One thing I noticed though when reading about ffmpeg to make the h.264 was that for internet, you could use qt-faststart to move some stuff (I think called MOOV) to the front of the file allowing the file to start playing before it was finished downloading. That certainly helps quite a bit, I was wondering if there is a similar type of thing for theora? Theora files I host do not seem to

Suggestions for Theora
Hi, I have some suggestions for Theora:1) Theora should have a feature like adobe flash does that enables direct end user to end user peering which decreases a server's bandwidth usage and cost. Read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_Time_Media_Flow_Protocol Theora should go one step further and support file sharing. 2) Theora should have a plugin for the safari web browser that runs

Seek issue in cortado player
One of the issues I've consistently run into with the cortado player app is seek behavior, so I was curious to see how cortado handles video encoded with the latest ffmpeg2theora (0.26) and the new -seek-index option, so I tried converting an h.264 video: ffmpeg2theora tronlegacy-tsr1_480p.mov --seek-index This output the following advisory messages: > Allocated 372 bytes for theora

Theora packets with granulepos of -1
Hello, I'm just totally confused. In my theora streams encoded using ffmpeg2theora (but also when using my own encoder) I have packets with a granulepos of -1 so I can't identify the packet during a seeking operation correctly. I can also see those strange value when I just print the packet granulepos before sending it to the Theora decoder. I know why there are PAGES with granularpos of

Theora promotion material
Hi all, A while back I wrote in about wanting a theora promotion video. Having a few lazy minutes left in the day, I decided to do some coding to create a small movie. However, I encountered two problems: - The artwork completely &$@(%sses, but then again I'm no artist. - How do you actually embed the movie into a SVG file? Otherwise I'd go for HTML but a working example would be

How to seek theora streams
I need to be exposed to a way of seeking theora streams. I have repeatedly found the same question asked on a different forums but could not find an answer. I'm working on a game and started integrating video with theora, the sound works just fine with ogg/vorbis(i find it easy to seek using ov_raw_seek for audio files). Could someone please point me to some example/code of how can i seek with
