Other extension for Ogg Theora then "ogg"
Hi, The standards for audio and video to be used by the Wikimedia projects (like Wikipedia) are Ogg Vorbis and Ogg Theora. The use of Ogg Vorbis files is growing fast. For now the use of video is still very limited. The problem is that an audio and an video file looks the same because of the same file extension. This is very annoying because you do not know what for file it is when you look at

using recent theora under Linux
Hello, in case somebody wants to test Theora without compilation, feel free to use konvalo.org's setup. It includes mplayer with theora from svn 2004-09-21 with Wim Taymans' mmx-patches from August 2004 applied (there are mplayer and mplayer.theora-mmx, the latter with decoder mmx-patches from VP3HoSwiYO) and a theora-encoder script (a bit slower than ffmpeg2theora as it runs several

The One Laptop Per Child project is now including a digital camera in the design of their "$100" laptop computer. According to their latest news, this device will record video at 30 fps and at VGA resolution. Also, the OLPC project is considering using content from WikiMedia, and video files at WikiMedia are stored in ogg theora format. Have folks involved in the OLPC project

Theora 1.0 final release
Theora is a video codec with a small CPU footprint that offers easy portability and requires no patent royalties. While the Theora bitstream format was standardized in 2004 and our beta releases have been used by millions, this 1.0 release is an important milestone reflecting the maturity and stability of the Theora codebase. A number of leading multimedia web groups already support Theora.

further debugging of my ogg/theora decoder
Hi, I am continuing to try to debug my ogg/theora decoder. The issue seems to be that not enough packets are being pulled from the bitstream, here is some sample output from my player with some debugging comments put in: (playback began at first frame, this is from the middle of the clip) get page at 1765027 got packet frame++, skip is 0 frame decoded page processed, kframe=414 : offs=442 get

Theora, MMX and optimisation
Hi everyone, I just landed into the theora planet, as a game programmer, I searched for a free video fomat/codec and the theora choice became obvious. However I experienced rather bad performance (at least from a game programming point of view) After a couple a profiling, I discovered, as previous discused in a post found via Google, that the bottleneck is in the ogg library. An unsane part of the

Hi, three years ago Cortado found its new home xiph.org (as per http://lists.xiph.org/pipermail/theora/2009-October/002976.html ). Who's developing mwEmbed?
Recently I found out about mwEmbed[1] which seems to me to be a great tool to embed theora videos with a fallback mechanism in place and a really smooth user experience. Since I am testing the tool for use in my blog and other websites at the moment I would like to know who is actually developing that tool and where to report bugs. (e.g. it doesn't work yet in Opera 10.50 which is a

VCD tracks to theora
Hello, I am looking for a way to convert VCD tracks to theora. I'd rather a command line tool. What would you suggest me? I already found I can do that with mplayer, by ripping to yuv and wav, then using the encoder_example to compress to theora, but would there be another better way? -- ASPO Infog?rance http://aspo.rktmb.org/activites/infogerance Unofficial FAQ fcolc

Wikipedia plots and tables?
Hello, All: What facilities exist for plots and tables of data in the standard MediaWiki software beyond the obvious standards? The standard MediaWiki tables and graphics capabilities seem to me to be rather clumsy, and I wonder if I'm missing some available extensions? The standard MediaWiki tables are described in a Wikipedia article on "Help:Table".

How to merge and cut theora videos, and how to synchronize sound?
Hello. Excuse me in advance for these dumb questions. I used ffmpeg2theora to convert much videos. Now I would cut and/or merge them. How can I do it? Furthermore, in many cases the sound was desynchronized - I converted TS mpegs. I tried to add the sync flag with bad effects. How can I manually delay / anticipate sound track?

Playback too slow?!
I tried encoding http://home.tange.dk/theora/stream.dump with http://home.tange.dk/theora/optag-dvd 4. From that I got http://home.tange.dk/theora/dvd-4.theora.ogg. mplayer stream.dump works fine, but when playing the theora encoded file on my 2 GHz computer both mplayer and xine take 85% of my CPU while X takes the remaining 15% (i.e. 0% idle time) and the playback is no way near smooth.
