Hi All, I just posted Windows installer for the 0.5 release of the Helix Theora & Vorbis plugins for RealPlayer 10/10.5 and RealOne Player. New Theora and Vorbis plugins available for RealPlayer 10
Hi All, I've just released new versions of the Helix Theora and Vorbis plugins. The major feature of this release is adding chaining support. The plugins play Vorbis only, Theora only, and Vorbis/Theora chained files. It also tries it's best to play files that mix these 3 types of stream groups. I have also fixed a few Theora bugs. The Theora plugin now properly honors the clipping

Helix and unrecognised streams.
Kind of an interim release, I have a copy of the Helix/RealPlayer Ogg plugin working in the presence of unrecognised streams, <href="http://www.srcf.ucam.org/~ibm21/omd_players/index.html#hxplugin> The patches won't go into Helixcommunity until I've put in a joint copyright document (and the stream end strategy patch still needs to be completed), but they can be GPLed so if

Where's TrueCast5?
Supposedly On2 transferred their Video Recorder and TrueCast5 streaming server into opensource along with VP3. Theora is obviously the VP3 project, and while I can find nothing on Xiph about it, the recorder source is offered on vp3.com; but I can find nothing on Xiph or vp3.com about what happened to Truecast5. I contacted On2 about whether TrueCast5 was really going to be open source, and they

patches for theora
Hi, I've made two patches against current svn for theora; one for general autotools stuff, and one for -uninstalled.pc Ralph, I think I submitted at least part of the first already once before, was there something wrong with it or was it just an oversight ? Let me know if they need fixing. Patches are at http://thomas.apestaart.org/download/patches/theora/ together with explanations. I

Live Ogg/Theora+Vorbis streams
Hi people, Just wanted to let you know that we're streaming GUADEC, the GNOME users and developers conference. The information is up at http://stream1.hia.no/ I can't be sure, but I think this is the first "public" event streamed in Ogg/Theora. A big round of thanks to the Xiph.org people and the icecast people currently mirroring us. If you look at the streams, let us know

Helix into Icecast2 loopback
Hello. I've made some progress on the issue. I found a tool called TrPlayer which is a text mode front end for real player - initially developed for the use of the visually impaired. The theory is that I can use this and pipe the live stream into vsound which then in turn is passed into ices or another source client. Trouble is, I'm having all sorts of trouble compiling Trplayer on the

Theora I bitstream freeze
I'm pleased to announce the official freeze of the theora 1.0 bitstream format. We wanted to reserve the right to change things if we discovered any issues during the documentation documentation phase. We haven't, so there's no reason to delay adoption any further. The files produced by the alpha-3 encoder constitute the baseline of the theora I format and will be supported by

hxplay versus realplay
Interesting. I downloaded and installed both HelixPlayer-0.4.0.187-20040615.i586.rpm and RealPlayer-0.4.0.186-20040615.i586.rpm on my Mandrake 10.0 system. With hxplay, the theora sample video, Mixtape.small.ogg, played as well as it does with mplayer 1.0pre4, which is reasonably well. But when I tried to watch it with realplay, the program choked and died. Also, when I tried to watch

Anybody tried implementing different streaming protocols yet?
Hi, does anybody know if somebody tried implementing things like rtsp, mms or similar in icecast so far? I heard some rumors from people complaining transmissions over http or not "that secure" because using a wget you can easily write them to disk. They suggested using real servers or something - but I wonder if its (easy?) possible to implement another already widely used

theora optimizations
Hi everyone, I wanted to throw out some data points on some of the theora optimization efforts. There are a few different efforts going on and it would be nice to unify all of those into something that can live in the main branch and be kept uptodate, while making it easy for people that want to contribute specific optimisations (we have one eager new powerbook owner ready to give the ppc ones a

mailing list headers
For some reason all headers for mails coming from this list are coming from @Xiph.org, not @xiph.org like all the other xiph lists. Any chance this small discrepancy with all the other xiph lists can be fixed for aesthetic and procmail reasons ? :) (This mail is just as much a test for seeing if my changed procmail catches this, btw) Thanks Thomas Dave/Dina : future TV today ! -
