Ffdshow-20042003 Theora support fixed.
Thought I'd pass this along for Theora users on the Windowzz platform.
The latest alpha build of the ffdshow filter (20041003) on Sourceforge
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow/
Seems to have had theora, broken since the June/July unofficial builds,
fixed. This build also connects nicely to Zen's Ogg splitter and also
decodes Helix Producer encoded Ogg's well. The encoder side

Theora and Vorbis problems
Hi all,
I've been trying to add Vorbis to my Theora stream, and it seems to be
working in mplayer and oggz-validate seems fine with it (apart from the
missing EOS flags in the final pages, but this is expected). Xine and
Cortado are both making a mess of it though:

It's a very boring moving green dot - it moves smoothly in mplayer,

Theora Directshow Filter
The first release of a theora decode filter for directshow is available. Still no doubt buggy as hell... but it can now play all my limited collection of test videos ok. Alpha 3 vids only. See the already known bugs on the page.

Enjoy,
Zen.

[PATCH][RFC] Adapt Theora frame rate to DirectShow clock
Hello,
Here are my patches to adapt the Theora frame rate of the encoded stream
to the DirectShow clock.
Theora has a fixed frame rate for a video stream, contrary to a DirectShow
stream. When Theora do not know the frame rate of a video device, it
defaults to 30 fps, and the resulting stream playbacks too fast or too
slow depending on the video device frame rate.
For example, a DV cam (PAL, 25

Granule pos bug ?
After trying to find out what to do when no packets complete on a page... i reread the ogg spec and found this...
"A special value of -1 (in two's complement) indicates that no packets finish on this page."
So i searched through a few files and it appears that the muxer doesn't do this... has this been depracated ? In all cases i can find that this happens the page has the same

fishead granule rates
Hi,
What are the two granule rates in a fishead packet supposed to be for ?
Since each of the streams has a corresponding fisbone packet with its own
granulerate in it, and they can be all different, wha does the presentationtime
num/den means ? Also for hte basetime num/den, since the UTC time which
is also present in fishead seems to be a textual representation rather than a
linear count ?

variable frame rate for Theora
Hi there,
I have just read in the documentation that Theora doesn't support
variable frame rates. I don't know whether it will support it in the
near future and since I cannot code I don't really know whether this
would be easy to implement. But I'd ask you to consider implementing
variable frame rates.
The reason for that implementation would come from the much smaller size

oggcat or other ways to combine theora videos (with or without re-encoding)?
hi guys,
first of all, i'd like to ask if there any crossplatform software/service ( gui is also better, an online application like firefogg is great, or at least a command line tools for any platform) to combine theora videos, other than oggcat...
i am doing some art projects that people should be able to remix featured theora videos and i find oggcat very usefull in theory but not in

More Q's about theora...
I have a few more questions about theora... if someone could answer or point me to a source of the information...
Firstly in the header there is width and height parameters.
Are these fixed for the entire file ?
Is it possible for say halfway through the dimensions of the video to be changed ie two different size videos are spliced together ?
If it is... does the header represent the first

OGGZ Seeking in Theora
Dear all
I'm aware that there have been several discussions about the seeking
issue and I'm sorry to bring this up again.
To solve the problem with Inter-Frame garbage, a seek to the previous
keyframe has to be made. The keyframe number should be extracted from
the granulepos of the frame where we want to seek to. I hope I
understood the theory - unfortunately a few questions have

Question about number of frames in ogg/theora video file.
Hello.
How can I tell the number of frames in ogg/theora video file, without actually reading the file? Or, how can I tell
its playing time (which is basically the same thing).
I didn't find the information in THEORA_STATE, THEORA_INFO, but with the codec installed (illuminable oggcodecs),
Windows Media Player shows the ogg/theora file playing time, before it starts playing the file.

ogg + theora + seeking
Hi all,
I'm actually learning how to use ogg, theora and vorbis. My idea is to create
a small program running, that is able to concatenate ogg video+audio files.
However I have some small questions. Here I will start with the first one:
I read the following for seeking in ogg for a theora key-frame:
---- snipp (http://www.xiph.org/ogg/doc/ogg-multiplex.html) ----

liboggflac bug (flac.exe) : wrong header field
Just playing around with my new flac code, and did some tests with stuff
from the reference tools, and i noticed that one of the fields in the first
header is wrong. (The number of headers field is 1 less than it should be)
The spec doc says...
" A two-byte, big-endian binary number signifying the number of header
(non-audio) packets, including this one. "
Here's a partial dump

Poisson Regression - Query
Hi All,
My dependent variable is a ratio that takes a value of 0 (zero) for 95% of
the observations and positive non-integer values for the other 5%. What
model would be appropriate? I'm thinking of fitting a GLM with a Poisson ~.
Now, becuase it takes non-integer values, using the glm function with
Poisson family issues warning messages.
Warning messages:

recommendations for web video bit rates
Hey, everyone. I'm sure this thread will generate some email!
Some people are working on a super-easy to use converter for people to
be able to convert videos to Theora for the upcoming Get Video on
Wikipedia push:
http://videoonwikipedia.org/
(Note that this isn't being pushed yet, and is pre-launch quality!)
For the converter one thing we'd like to be able to provide is a set

Resyncing cut streams...
I'm interested to know of any player, which can properly resync after
receiving a theora+vorbis stream that has been cut somewhere in the
middle... ie it doesn't start at granule 0.
The problem being... when streams are cut in this way, the start time, and
the times of the first few packets in each stream are unknown. When working
at a packet level... the first few packets will arrive

3gp to theora problems again
hello.
as many times before i ran into troubles to encode
with ffmpeg2theora from a 3gp file.
the example files are here:

variable frame rate
How well dose theora handle varaiable frame rate?
I looking a using a rolling frame rate that move up and down
from 1 frame per 60 second (no montion)
to 100 frames per second (very fast montion eg: lightning)

Light travels faster then sound, which is why some people appear bright, until you hear them speak

FFmpeg Theora encoding patch
Hi,
Attached is my patch to add theora encoding to ffmpeg's libavcodec (by
using libtheora). I am requesting help to fix the bug I mention below
and am seeking general comments before I submit the patch properly.
Files encoded using this encoder have a problem playing in VLC. The
files will not play unless "Drop late frames" has been unticked in the
advanced video settings.

Any good GUI Theora encoder for Windows?
I try to test Theora in Windows , but i only find one
Theora encoder , ffmpeg2theora.
I don't like because is command line , and i want to
encode from a visual encoder.
I also try ffdshow but i don't know how to encode
video and audio to get Theora ...
With ffdshow i get a worst 4 FPS encoding ...
Would be a good idea that xiph contact to creators of
