Sampling encoder timings between libtheora-1.0 & libtheora-1.1beta3
As requested by Ralph in my introduction e-mail to this list [1], I've gone ahead and done some sample test timings for encoding between libtheora-1.0 and libtheora-1.1beta3, as available from the Theora website [2]. So far, I've tested with 4 different files that I generated with content I already have. The files, in brief, are the following: 1. planet-earth-360x240.yuv4mpeg - A

Webcam streaming with ptalarbvorm
Hey all! I'm sure you've all been missing my webcam stream, so I decided to start it up again (also, I wanted to do it for my family overseas). However, this time, I'm doing things a little bit differently. For starters, the encoder is the current (as of about an hour ago) ptalarbvorm branch which is destined to become libtheora 1.2. Another difference is that I'm using

DNS information, again...
Alright, I believe something is very wrong here, but I have no idea what it is. DNS is not updating to my Linux servers running Samba, DNS, and DHCP. However, on a virtual domain using Server 2008 R2 and WIndows 7 clients, DNS gets updated. The following was done from a domain controller on the domain in question. I also ran "samba_dnsupdate --verbose" and it claims that no updates

Live webcam stream with Theora
Hey all, I've setup a simple page that just displays a live webcam stream of me at work, and it supposedly falls back onto Cortado if your browser doesn't support the <video> tag. The URL is here: http://media.basilgohar.com/stream/ There's been a lot of talk about live streaming and low bitrate streams. Here is my command line (I've posted this before): time ffmpeg -f

Theora Intra (ptalarbvorm) vs. MJPEG
In the discussion of having a freedom-friendly camcorder or other video device, we discussed the idea of using intra-only Theora video to make post-recording editing a much easier process, allowing things like frame-by-frame editing without the need to decode and reencode the video again, thus incurring loss. I was quite skeptical of the efficiency of intra-only Theora, and I had speculated that

Good sources for encoding tests
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Since I'm planning to finish my encoding tests that Ralph asked me to do a while ago after I return to the US (God-willing!), I thought I'd throw out a request to other more-experienced video folks. Please recommend to me any good sources (freely and/or legally available) that I can use for my testing of the encode/decode speeds as well as

Theora file size
Hi I was surprised with size of Theora files and thought of feedback. Following 1minute duration Theora and Xvid files were made from a y4m file. The resolution is 1280x720: 1. Xvid 17MB 2. Ogg/Theora Q7 31MB 3. Ogg/Theora Q8 38MB 4. Ogg/Theora Q9 49MB 5. Ogg/Theora Q10 61MB The Xvid file was made using mencoder by 2 passes with following options:

Freedom-friendly video hardware community
Our discussion in the "Theora Camcorder" thread has been great, but I didn't see a direction evolve for action yet. So, I'd like to propose the creation of a community website that will be focused specifically on this kind of thing, partnered with the Xiph Foundation. I'm also more than happy to host said website, as I have more than ample server capacity for that. I just

Update on Ptalarbvorm
Hi there, I was wondering if someone closer to the work happening in the Ptalarbvorm branch could be so kind as to provide a little update on progress? I've heard tidbits from around the web that the improvement over 1.1 is at least as much as 1.1 was itself over 1.0. I know that myself and many others found Monty's occasional updates on Thusnedla development to be absolutely fascinating

Introduction
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello everyone! My name is Basil Mohamed Gohar, and I'm an avid free software user & advocate. I've been using Theora for years as I strongly believe there is an urgent need for free-as-in-freedom multimedia codecs. The recent improvements in Thusnelda encoder have encouraged me to become more actively involved, so I've joined both

Don't wait on testing results from me
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hey all, I'm a bit disappointed, but it seems that I won't be able to get all the testing results that I wanted for the new vs. old Theora encoders done this week. I am rather busy with some family matter and we're also going to be moving from Malaysia back to the US shortly, God-willing, so things are a bit hectic here. I have done

Google to Open-source VP8 for HTML5 Video
"Google will soon make its VP8 video codec open source, we?ve learned from multiple sources. The company is scheduled to officially announce the release at its Google I/O developers conference next month, a source with knowledge of the announcement said. And with that release, Mozilla ? maker of the Firefox browser ? and Google Chrome are expected to also announce support for HTML5 video

Android App for Icecast Administration
Yeah, the app will probably only be for viewing statistics and other Icecast data - and not for "managing" or modifying the server since it isn't possible from the Web interface. Any suggestions for what Icecast data the app should display? On Sun, Oct 6, 2013 at 2:29 AM, Basil Mohamed Gohar < basilgohar at librevideo.org> wrote: > On 10/05/2013 04:26 PM, Elad Nava

Correct List?
Is this the correct list for asking detailed questions about implementing the Theora specification? For example, I have questions about creating the quantization matrices. Should I go to the theora-dev mailing list instead, or is that a private list for Xiph?

Updates to development?
Hi, again. Are there any updates to the development of Theora? Like a version 1.2? I ask this because I want to be re-assured Theora is not just sitting while people are choosing H.264... -- Daniel Hendrycks -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... New to list, would like to help testing
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hey everyone, I'm new to the list, and while I'm not really a theora developer (I'm actually a PHP web developer, primarily), I noticed in the archives several requests for testing for new Theora code. I've been using code from the theora's SVN trunk for the past couple of weeks, actually, and I've really enjoyed working with

Problems with graphical devices, e.g., png(), pdf(): blurry graphical output
On my current home system, I am getting undesirable output from graphical devices such as png() and pdf(). The graphical output is blurry. I haven't experienced the problem on other systems. As you will see from the attached text file (more information on this file below), the problem does not occur when type='Xlib' is forced. The blurriness is more severe with bitmap output (yes, I am

I'm almost very impressed with theora 1.1 beta 3
Firstly I have to say that having just tried out theora 1.1 beta 3 the improvement over the previous 1.0 is amazing. In my very subjective view it looks like the same quality for about half the bitrate and that's amazingly impressive. The results have for the most part been excellent and my congratulations to all concerned for there very hard work. There is (for me) only one serious problem
