Theora file size
Hi I was surprised with size of Theora files and thought of feedback. Following 1minute duration Theora and Xvid files were made from a y4m file. The resolution is 1280x720: 1. Xvid 17MB 2. Ogg/Theora Q7 31MB 3. Ogg/Theora Q8 38MB 4. Ogg/Theora Q9 49MB 5. Ogg/Theora Q10 61MB The Xvid file was made using mencoder by 2 passes with following options:

Theora encoder performance
I'm evaluating some video codecs for a online conference system. I'm encoding images (640x480) from a webcam. I've been playing around with theora and xvid. First of all, using theora, the decoded image looks strange: http://integrasoft.ro/~mgliga/theora/comparison.png <http://integrasoft.ro/%7Emgliga/theora/comparison.png>. Theora/Thusnelda features questions.
Hello, My name is Robin Mar?n and I have some questions about the Theora Codec/project... First of all I don't know if this is the right place to ask but I haven't found any Xiph/Theora forum or something similar... I don't even know if this is the right way of "posting" in mailists... But anyway... I discovered Theora just like a moth ago when the 1st alpha of Thusnelda

Theora DirectShow filters assembly
Hello everybody, I intend to use Theora as a live video codec in a research project. This project is based on live video broadcast over a poor/slow link, which means lots of frames lost and low bandwith. Until now, it used XViD codec for video compression, which is a working solution but a lot blocky. I made some test with Theora and it looks better in a similar situation. Now, I would like to

Open Source Video Codec and Container (alternative to Xvid)
Hi CentOS users I am running a forum with small video clips (from YouTube and others). I convert those Macromedia Flash videos with: $ mencoder example.flv -ovc xvid -xvidencopts bitrate=1000:autoaspect -vf pp=lb -oac mp3lame -lameopts fast:preset=standard -o example.avi I use mencoder RPM from Dag Wieers 1) Its very generic command line to convert videos. What would you improve? The size

FairUse Wizard Doesn't See DivX Codec
Hi all at the Wine Forum. This is my first post so apologies if my question is foolish. I'm quite new to Linux and totally new to Wine. I'm running Wine under Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 and have installed FairUse Wizard 2.8 to see if it will run. It's the full version which was released for free earlier this year and I've been using it successfully in Windows XP. I want to dump Windows but

Java and ogg/vorbis
I am a bit confused to how Ogg/vorbis works. This is my understand. Vorbis is an audio codec that can be used instead of MP3 and it is open source. If this is true, what is Ogg? I think it is some kind of wrapper that allows you to stream Audio and Video. Am I right? Also I want to encode short videos in Xvid and then encode the audio in vorbis. Then I want to stream this over the Internet

MemoriesOnWeb and wine
In http://www.edsupport.cc/mguhlin/archives/2007/08/entry_3550.htm, Miguel Guhlin asked how to install MemoriesOnWeb and its recommended codecs under Wine, so here goes. All I did was translate his instructions to wine-ese. 1. Download xvid for windows from http://www.xvid.org/Downloads.15.0.html, install it the obvious way: $ wine XviD-1.1.3-28062007.exe 2. Download lame from

Re: [vorbis-dev] ACM codec
<"Dan Miller" <dan@on2.com> wrote in message news:<20021111153459.2AF71532A73@motherfish-II.xiph.org>... <hmm -- you make a good point. However note that Divx is quite popular in spite of having gone with AVI format, so your logic doesn't hold in that case. <Frankly though I sort of agree, in that Divx would have been even more popular and cause less headaches

mpeg4/xvid/divx vs. theora
Hi there, I have an elementary question. Although theora can be placed in the same class of codecs as MPEG-1, -2, -4 why is there no greater usage of this codec? On the bigger part of web sites trailers or short videos are encoded with some mpeg codec. Why is theora still so rarely used and unfamiliar although it perfomes very well from my point of view? Is it, because - the whole mpeg family is

VirtualDub and enconding with DivX, XviD
Hello, I am trying to get the latest wine (Wine 20030219, fake windows) working with the GordianKnot (0.27). Unfortunately, Virtual Dub is not be able to compress a avs-file with the DivX-codec. It crashes if trying to. Also, it would be nice to compress an mpeg-source with Xvid but also it crashes. BTW, VirtualDub does not list it in its codecs window ?f "msvfw32" is set to

Re: [vorbis-dev] ACM codec
My concern is primarly the 'marketing' aspect. If UCI, or MCF, or any other interface, is adopted by the toolmakers, then that's a perfectly good solution. <p>-----Original Message----- From: Christian HJ Wiesner [mailto:christian.hj.wiesner@web.de] Sent: Tue 11/12/2002 10:10 AM To: theora-dev@xiph.org Cc: Subject: [theora-dev] Re: [vorbis-dev] ACM codec

AVI Theora?
Hello, I'm an adventure?games dev, and I'm trying to compress my video to a sort of "AVI Theora". I want to use AVI instead of Ogg as the container format, but retain the Theora compressed core. The reason I want to use AVI as the container is rather too complicated to explain, and I actually don't entirely understand it myself. Is this possible? Thanks, ? James Wilson

Create CD from avi files
I have avi files in xVid format from my Camera, and I want to create a Video CD that can be viewed on any CD player. I have searched through the various repos (including rpmforage and kbsingh) and did not find anything that would burn. I have a number of programs that have no trouble displaying these files. Including xzine, Avidemux, and VideoLAN-Client). I unfortunately have to make these

Theora@GP2X possible?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, I just want to know whether it would be possible to play ogg-theora videos on my favourite Handheld, the GP2X. For those of you who don't know the GP2X yet there's much information about it on Wikpedia or on http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/Hardware_Documentation . To make it short, its an ARM-based Handheld which is able to play Xvid and DivX

Bitstream freeze
Hello, I´m just curious: How far is Theora from a bitstream freeze? From TheoraTodo: "Derf has come up with a number of suggestions for improving the flexibility of the bitstream based on his experimental encoder work. These will be implemented, if not entirely supported by the reference decoder, before alpha 3 is released." Are those changes supposed to be the last adjustments?

Theora dll in debug mode
Hi everybody. I have a problem using Theora in a specific way. I am going to explain that. I have downloaded ogg codecs for Windows on the Theora website. More precisely there are DirectShow Filters. I try to use Theora codec in a commercial application and the application crash. It doesn't with another codec like XviD, so the problem may be Theora codec. Note that I can use Theora outwards

[LLVMdev] GPL licensing issues or can GCC be used with llvm for a commercial application?
Thanks for your replies. This is indeed a helpful mailing list. I made some more researches about the licensing issue and this is what I discovered: - from FSF it seems that packaging together a GPL application and a commercial one it is a corner case of licensing. Here is what they say: http://www.fsf.org/licensing/licenses/gpl-faq.html#MereAggregation
