OT: Difference between Ogg and NUT?
Hello, (Sorry, this is a bit off-topic.) I was reading some stuff and came across the NUT container data format. (The NUT website is down... so I could not read up on it. But perhaps someone here knows about it.) Like Ogg and Matroska, NUT also seem to be a Free multimedia container data format. But how does it compare to Ogg (and even Matroska)? Why was it created when Ogg (and Matroska)

Simple Video and Audio Recording ???
Hello, (This is yet another newbie question.) My goal is to record Video and Audio, from a webcam and microphone, and record them in ogg format. (Using Theora and Vorbis.) I'm aware that I can use video4linux or video4linux2 to get the video. And use various API's for audio. And can use APIs like GStreamer to do the encoding, etc. But, if possible, I like something a little more

This is a sad day for interoperability in the Web
Today, Adobe Systems Incorporated announced[1] that they will extend their Flash platform to support the proprietary H.264 and HE-AAC formats. The Xiph.Org Foundation has previously contacted Adobe to consider extending Flash to support the Open Media formats Vorbis, Theora, and Speex. Adobe developers replied by stating it would be unwise as it would increase the file size of the Flash Player,

Opera proposed Theora for native video playback in browsers
Hi , I see this news in Opera website : http://my.opera.com/haavard/blog/2007/03/05/1 I think this is a good news for Theora Team and also a greater news if video tag becomes true. This extract of the website is incredible : 'One thing to keep in mind that adding native support for Theora in Opera would only add about 300K to Opera's overall size! And I am sure that could even be

Can I recommend theora to my readers yet? Please?
Hi, I'm working on updates to the WWW FAQ (okay, it's a little much to use the singular in 2006, but it was the first!). Embedded multimedia has been a sore spot for a while. I've been recommending that people embed old-school MPEG, because it works in all players. But it's awful. Terrible bitrates. I'm on the verge of recommending SWF instead, even though it's a hideous

Binding to a local IP address when mounting smb file system.
Hello! My company makes testing software that, among other things, can be used to generate file-system traffic. In order to better support Samba, I need to make a few changes to the way samba mounts file systems: 1) I need to be able to specify the local IP address for the socket connection. This will allow me to bind different mounts to different local interfaces. This information will

I'm already used 'check_file'
