Chris DiBona's passing comment on Theora + Youtube on the WhatWG list
Chris DiBona made an odd comment regarding Theora on the WhatWG list. I am explicitly not calling for people to go sign up over there and complain. Google has done many good things for open video, and I'm sure they will continue to do so in the future. I thought the comparison I did for my response would be interesting to other people here:

Streaming to Doja devices
Hi, Actually, I thought that Icecast did support seeking for static files. Of course it doesn't for a live stream. Geoff. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Thomas B. This is a sad day for interoperability in the Web
Today, Adobe Systems Incorporated announced[1] that they will extend their Flash platform to support the proprietary H.264 and HE-AAC formats. The Xiph.Org Foundation has previously contacted Adobe to consider extending Flash to support the Open Media formats Vorbis, Theora, and Speex. Frauenhofer signing off on mp3, ogg stream player for Macs?
It's really pretty simple. You can download the code and build it all you want... ...for yourself. It cannot be distributed, sold, or used commercially in any way. That's all. /g. -----Original Message----- From: Icecast [mailto:icecast-bounces at xiph.org] On Behalf Of Robert Jeffares Sent: Tuesday, 16 May, 2017 17:03 To: icecast at xiph.org Subject: Re: [Icecast] Frauenhofer signing

Webm files written without duration in header
Hi Marvin I followed this advice for updating moov flags in mp4 and it "streams" directly from the file location on the server with html5 video: https://rigor.com/blog/optimizing-mp4-video-for-fast-streaming. Progressive downloading, seeking and video time all works 100% on a 195MB file. Regards On Wed, May 1, 2019 at 10:19 PM Marvin Scholz <epirat07 at gmail.com> wrote: >

Fwd: [whatwg] Cue points in media elements
Hi, this is an email from the HTML5 standardisation group, which I thought would be very interesting to Annodex and Xiph people. I do not know enough about the cue points that he is talking about to know how much should be done in html/javascript and how much directly in the media. But I found the need for cue points interesting. Maybe someone here has an answer to Brian on how it could work or

Webm files written without duration in header
Hi Fred. Appreciate your response. Maybe in my explanation I have some red and green apples, but I can agree that my understanding is as you explained it. 😊 The point is that if I can successfully stream mp4 with H.264 and AAC encoding without any issues to icecast, I can then use ffmpeg to turn it into HLS which then solves my iOS support issue. The CPU cost of repackaging MP4 into HLS

Making the video plugin + patched MPlayer work with other backends
Hi, I'm wondering how I can make my patched up mplayer work with other MPlayer frontends, such as mplayer-plugin, GMPlayer, SMPlayer and KMPlayer. When I play a video using mplayer normally with: mplayer video.ext, It detects the compiz video output and works fine, however when it is called from other players (AFAIK, it just creates a window then asks mplayer to display in it) with mplayer

The news site of Germany's main public television station ARD now has some short clips in Ogg Theora: http://www.tagesschau.de/tagesschau24/ These are the "news in 100 seconds" clips, which are also available in mp4/h264. Curiosuly longer video-news are available as either flash or wmv? Regards, Hannes

Build R on Haiku
Hi R-devel, I'm trying to get R 3.2.1 working on Haiku (an open source OS inspired by BeOS, not Linux based) on i586. With a few small changes to library paths and ifdefs I am able to get a seemingly working R binary. The build process stops with the 'tools' package. The last lines from make are below. Does anyone have any tips? I'm rather new to debugging at this low level. Are
