libtheora-1.0alpha5 release
Everyone, I've made a new release of our libtheora reference implementation. This draws a line under all the development since alpha 4 before we start merging in the optimization work people have been doing. It also contains a fix for two serious bugs (one an encoding error, one a segfault) so we recommend everyone upgrade. The release is source and binary compatible with 1.0 alpha 4.

[Fwd: Re: libtheora MMX patch]
Forwarding an email exchange that I had with Nils Pipenbrinck regarding the state of the MMX patch for visual studio-style assembly. I also run with the patches, and everything looks fine as far as I can tell. Is this enough for a go-ahead to put that stuff into the mainline (if it's not there already)? -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: libtheora MMX patch Date: Sun, 06

Testing libtheora-1.0alpha5
Hi, I sent the message below a couple of months ago but I got no reply. Now that there's more activity perhaps someone could kindly provide me some guidance. Theora is great and the developers are doing a wonderful job, so I'd like to implement the codec in a way which does it justice... Original post: I wrote a plugin to enable LiVES (a video editor) to encode theora/vorbis/ogg files.

MMX version of Theora
Hi all, I am trying to build the mmx version of the theora and the encoderwin is throwing the following errors. 1>------ Build started: Project: encoderwin, Configuration: Debug Win32 ------ 1>Linking... 1> Creating library encoderwin.lib and object encoderwin.exp 1>LINK : warning LNK4098: defaultlib 'LIBCMTD' conflicts with use of other libs; use /NODEFAULTLIB:library

libtheora 1.0 alpha 6 release
All, I'm pleased to announce a new release of the libtheora reference implemenation. This is an incremental update over alpha 5, consisting primarily of bug fixes and a merge of the encoder optimizations from the theora-mmx branch. Source is available from the usual location: http://downloads.xiph.org/releases/theora/ Changes since the 1.0 alpha 5 release: * Merge theora-mmx simd

libtheora-1.0alpha7 release
All, I've done a new alpha release of the libtheora reference implementation. This is mostly build fixes from the alpha6 release; I'd failed to enable the new MMX asm by default, and the x86 asm code did a relocation that caused problems on SELinux. You can get it in the usual place: http://downloads.xiph.org/releases/theora/libtheora-1.0alpha7.tar.bz2

a question about Bitstream Header.
Hi, I have a question about the format of Theora bitstream header. It seems to me that there are differences between the specification[1] (version 2004 Oct 1) and its reference implementation in libtheora 1.0alpha3 released at 2004 Jun 1. I mean that... please refer to Section 6.2 'Identification Header Decode' in that specification[1] and the function

libtheora 1.2.0alpha1 release
All, I'm pleased to announce the first alpha release of the new 1.2 libtheora, codename 'ptalarbvorm'. This is the reference implementation of the Ogg Theora video codec, hosted at Xiph.Org. Things are settling down with the new code and we're ready for wider testing toward an eventual 1.2.x stable release. So please download it, try it with your applications and other code, and

libtheora 1.1alpha2 (thusnelda) release
I'm pleased to announce the second alpha release of our next generation encoder for the free Theora video format, codename "thusnelda". The second release incorporates a number of changes which improve both compression efficiency and execution speed. This release includes working MSVC project files, but the assembly optimization hasn't yet been ported, so performance there will

libtheora 1.1beta1 release
All, After months of intensive development, we're finally coming to a stopping point in our rewrite of the libtheora reference implementation. All major features for the 1.1 are in, so it's down to bug fixing now. Please try this first beta and give us feedback. Most notable is that the encoder's rate control is much more configurable, and more capable in each configuration than

libtheora 1.1beta3 release
All, Thanks to everyone who's been testing the recent releases. Some of you pointed out some real problems with the smoothness of the rate control on a few clips, so now, ten days later, we have some more fixes for you. I give you the beta3 version of the "thusnelda" rewrite. In addition to the smoother rate control, there are a few minor bug fixes and build polishes. Please give

libtheora 1.1.1 release
All, I've made a follow up release in the 1.1.x series. This fixes some issues reported with last week's 1.1.0 release, and is mostly of interest to those building under MSVC. Changes: * Fix an error in the MSVC inline assembly, the "pink blocks" problem. * Don't use the ebx register in the MSVC asm because it's used by the compiler in some optimization modes. *
