Are we interested, or ready for this? Re: DSP stamp
Yes, the Theora codec is based on VP3, which is an earlier version of ON2's VP6 codec. Theora is currently at its alpha 3 release, and is stable enough to have been used already for streaming live video from a number of conferences, and for encoding several videos that can be found at www.theora.org. Development has progressed to the point that the value of the codec can be seen. That

new MS codecs
I thought this might be interesting to you, it's an extract from the latest streaming media newsletter, I was intrested to note that MS are claiming cd quality audio at 48kbps whichi is obviously very low, I didn't think much of it at first because nobody uses MS codecs for audio anyway! However (a bit I missed off this quote by the look of it) I then read mention of portable audio players

Xiph.Org, IETF75, a BoF, and some royalty free codecs
Hi folks, here's a press release (yes, sorry, sorry) regarding what's going on with Xiph at the current IETF meeting. Every time we're asked 'why haven't you standardized any of your codecs through the IETF?' we explain that we've been trying for coming up on ten years. This release is about the latest step. If we (along with the other companies supporting

SRP unencumbered license statement available
For those of you who were following the discussion about the new draft and implementation of SRP-based password authentication in OpenSSH, I promised to have Stanford issue the IETF an official, explicit, statement reiterating the unencumbered royalty-free licensing terms. The new statement is now available from the IETF's IPR page. Tom

Just to understand what you'd call "free": Is the client that you use free as well? =) Imho not, and it's quite annoying to see this trial-reminder... video source
In order to experiment with the theora encoder, I bought a mini-DV camcorder a couple of weeks ago; a Panasonic PV-GS9 for $250. I wanted a mini-DV because it is claimed that capturing video from the camcorder to a computer over a firewire cable results in an exact copy of the recorded video. That was not my experience. The video I captured to my computer over the firewire cable, using both

Fwd: [codec] WG Review: Internet Wideband Audio Codec (codec)
Hi everyone, Here's a follow-up on the two BoFs we've had about doing royalty-free codecs at the IETF. Well, the good new is that the proposal is now in IETF last call until January 20th (see below). No final decision has been made, so it's important to get as much support as possible for the Working Group proposal. You can see the ongoing discussion on the mailing list archive:

Hi theora-list, I'm involved in in a project to redistribute C-SPAN's floor footage from the US house and senate that we're capturing and converting*. This footage is in the public doman, however there's a C-SPAN overlay which is a registered trademark - we're having to overlay a "public domain" graphic on top of it. We're currently doing this with

E1 card for Asterisk
Hello Folks, I'm trying to decide here between a few cards for connecting an Asterisk box to a single E1 channel (either PRI or R2 signaling): - Digium E100P: has been replaced by the TE110P below, but can still be had at places like digitnetworks.com for $475, and I guess there's always a place for good-olde-obsolete cards in the world as long as they work :-) - Digium TE110P:

Best Way to Import HC-X800 1080 60p/50p MTS to iMovie HD
Panasonic HC-X800 is expert HD camcorder with 3MOS system Pro, shooting 1080 60p/50p AVCHD footage at bitrates of up to 28Mbit/sec and exhibiting outstanding HD images with minimum noise. The HC-X800 records AVCHD MTS videos on P2 card. You may want to edit AVCHD MTS videos you shoot with iMovie. The problem is that iMovie often cannot import and recognize the 60p/50p footages, nor can it accept

OT: Latest Linux Real player
Hello. Does the latest Linux real player support RealAudio 10? The RealVideo codec is available as a upgrade but does it include RealAudio10. As far as I know TRPlayer uses the installed Real libraries so it should work if RealPlayer supports it. Also would you mind sending me your compile of TRPlayer? I had some problems compiling it under Redhat 9. All the best Hash -----Original
