CUPS/Printing
RH Linux 9 on AMD k6-2 500 Using HP deskjet 930c on USB Samba version: 2.2.7a cups version: 1.1.18 Hello - I have had a good look on this newsgroup - and what I've picked up I think is allowing me to ask these questions more intelligently. I've also had a good look at the CUPS documentation aswell as the Samba documentation. 1. Am I correct is assuming that CUPS only likes postscript,

CUPS & client driver download
Hi everybody! I've got a problem with downloading printerdrivers from my win2k box. Successfully added printer with cupsaddsmb-tool (as root, after failing as printer admin!!?!?!). The W32X86 and WIN40 directories have been created as they should and also did the PPD files. But if I connect to the printer from Win (as printer admin) I get the message that no driver could be found. RPCclient

HP Deskjet drivers, Samba and Cups
I have Samba 2.2.7 running on Redhat 8 (fully updated). I have two printers set up - a laser and a Deskjet 920C both connected to the Redhat server via USB cables. Printing is managed using CUPS although I get the same problem with LPR and Webmin configured printers. The laser works fine, the deskjet doesn't. The deskjet works with a generic windows HP Deskjet or HP Deskjet plus driver in

cupsaddsmb claims to work but fails
Case strange... I've past probably 30 hours by now on this, crawling the web, and doing attempts. I managed to make cupsaddsmb run without producing an error, but it fails. Ask me for anything, full trace, versions and so on, but please, if someone has an idea, share it. ============================================ Linux Debian Woody unstable Cups 1.1.19final-1 Samba 2.2.3a-14

No joy adding a CUPS printer
I'm trying to change my Samba setup from LPD to CUPS, with little success. I've followed [and re-followed] the setup documentation from CUPS and I just can't get Samba to recognize my printer. The catch is - it sort of recognizes it :-( First I added these lines to my smb.conf: ========================================= [global] load printers = yes printing = cups printcap name =

Driver Download with Foomatic-PPDs: Win2K Client says "Device settings cannot be displayed" if PPD's TranslationString longer than 40 chars
Hi, Samba list readers, I am forwarding these mails from one of the Linuxprinting.org lists to you (with the $SUBJECT changed by me), because surely some of you must have been bitten by this too.... This problem is verified on W2K (but not yet for NT/ME/XP/9x). Cheers, Kurt ################# problem description by Elena Khan #################### -------- Original Message -------- To:

Hi All, Wondering if there is a document that tells how to get wine printing through a cups printer working? Yes I know the wine docs say it's all magic and if you're using cups your printing will magically work, but for some reason, it doesn't, my wine session crashes and burns when I try to print from the built in notepad (or any other apps I've tried: in particular, Lotus

Unable to print with the Wine PS driver
I'm trying to get Wine to print through it's PS driver, without success, on a HP DeskJet 694C, configured on Linux with the cdj670 driver. What I get to see on screen after I attempt to print are three windows with exclamation marks on a yellow triangle and garbled text. The first window is titled "Printer name", the second "Device name", the third "Output".

cups printer oddity
Dear list, in CUPS, I have to absolutely identical printers configured (I believe), except for the printer name and the hostname it connects to. I use cupsaddsmb on them (same PPD). When I try to connect to the printer prn-1101-001-d110-1, it works; for prn-1101-001-d111-1, it does not. I have narrowed this down to the following difference in the output of rpcclient -c enumprinters:

Hi, printer driver download with W2000/Xp (samba-2.2.7 and cups-1.1.18) and the Adobe PS Driver works fine for our location. But when I try to download a driver with W9X the driver installation widzard starts. Samba logs the following messages... (Cant determine number of printer driver files...) (see second apandix) The installation of the driver works with no error. (see first apendix) Has

cupsaddsmb - problem
Hello, I want to setup a new print server using cups and samba for our new institue. Everything is working well (printing from unix and windows), but the driver download for the windows clients won't work and I have no idea what's wrong. Currently i have installed cups-1.15 and samba 2.2.5 on top of suse 8.0 using the rpm-files from Lars Mueller(?)(ftp.suse.com/pub/people/lmuelle) and

Samba 2.2.7a and cups 1.1.18
Hi I have installed samba-2.2.7a and cups-1.1.18. After reading all the documentation samba provides as well as the cups administrators guide I am still stuck. I have added the printers just the way the samba and cups documentation says. Anyway here is my output from cupsaddsmb, It fails on the last step, so i have run that manually again afterwards with debugging enabled. I believe this to be

2 quest.: cups - samba and ACL under HPUX
Hi, I have tried to use cups and samba together. Everything works great, however I am not able to configure and/or setup samba correctly, that the clients are able to install the driver. To test everything I used a dedicated system installed a fresh SuSE 8.0 and compiled samba (2.2.4) and cups (1.1.14). I only userd a differnet prefix for samba. Everything else is default.

Samba, Cups, Windows driver and PPD File updates
Greetings, I am using Samba (both 2.2.8a and 3.0.4) on servers running CUPS and have used cupsaddsmb to make the Cups drivers available for download to the client PCs. Everything has been working as it should. I need to make some changes to the PPD files on the CUPS servers. The question I have is about propagating the changes to the client PCs. I can either hand edit the copy of the PPD

cups configuration question
Using cups web, I configured 2 copies of a Canon color copier and on one of them, I configured it use a black and white only. This works fine for localhost printing. The cups queues are shared with other hosts on the subnet. They automatically see the printers but when they print to the shared queue, the page comes out in color unless they specifically change it and do not consider the cups

Getting Windows XP drivers from print$
Hi list I have two very similar printers set up on CUPS and Samba is configured to share the drivers. I had been playing around with setting up a RAW printer queue with native Windows drivers but eventually gave up on that. I deleted all printers and redid them from scratch and now only one of them works. Setup: Ubuntu Karmic 2.6.31-15-server #50-Ubuntu SMP Tue Nov 10 15:50:36 UTC 2009

Slow windows -> cups print - CONCLUSION
Hi list, I've just figured it out. When we're installing the drivers from adobe there's a part where we must "Select the Printer Model". By default it uses the "Generic Postscript Printer" (it has an associated PPD for that). We must get a PPD for our printer (installed on the linux server) from the www.linuxprinting.org, click the "Browse" button and
