[PATCH] extlinux: Make sure ldlinux.sys file is installed
Due to delayed allocation feature on XFS filesystems, a write is not guaranteed to flushed out to the underlying file system after crash or something else - so we need to make sure that ldlinux.sys is installed correctly in the mounted filesystem. extlinux - Failed to load ldlinux.c32
Hello there I built development version of syslinux from git 6.04-pre3-3-(sometag) and I am trying to boot a slackware-current system with it. I do not use a separated partition for `/boot`. It's just `/dev/sda1` here for `/` and `/boot` is just a folder. I simply use `mbr.bin` against a DOS partition table and the first partition having the bootable flag. With this layout, the only

Manually copy over ldlinux.sys
Hello, I am working on a remote upgrade that will utilize a squashfs to boot off the hard drive. I have everything worked out and functioning, except I see installing extlinux as an unecesarry step. The only thing I use the command for is to install the ldlinux.sys file to the /boot/extlinux/ folder. The rest of it is just a file copy. What manual step can I take to avoid the installation of

[extlinux] Failed to load ldlinux.c32 with btrfs subvolume
I am new to syslinux/extlinux. Can I boot from a linux btrfs subvolume? I am getting "Failed to load ldlinux.c32" when I attempt to boot from a btrfs subvolume. Setup: 1) I have a USB disk with one partition. The partition is marked "active". 2) I make a btrfs filesystem with "mkfs.btrfs /dev/sdd1". I mount the partiton and execute "btrfs su create

extlinux - Failed to load ldlinux.c32
Thank you for your answer. I need to correct some information from my previous post: booting from `/` did not work either. I just assumed it did based on previous experience. But with that successful build on development branch, it did not either. > I would suggest trying first the official binaries that are already > included in the official distribution archive (6.03-pre1). Syslinux 5.00 - Doesn't boot my system / Not passing the kernel options to the kernel?
Hi, I encounter a problem with Syslinux 5.00 I cannot really describe. So I created two small videos: Booting with Syslinux 5.00 (1.3 MB): <https://www.dropbox.com/s/b6g8cdf2t9v48c6/boot-syslinux5-fail.mp4> How I fixed the problem by downgrading to Syslinux 4.06 and how booting should look like (6.5 MB): <https://www.dropbox.com/s/lt7cpgfm0qvqtba/boot-syslinux5-how-i-fixed-it.mp4>

fsc branch: merged ldlinux.asm and extlinux; failing test
Hi, I merged ldlinux.asm and extlinux.asm on the fsc branch, observing that there were very little difference between them left. So far, so good. I found, however, a test which fails on the fsc branch (with or without the merge.) I have tracked it down to vfat_mangle_name() overwriting a bunch of random .bss16 memory, eventually including the CallbackSP variable.

extlinux VPATH build issue
Hi: I've been seeing intermittent build failures with the extlinux target, and I believe I've tracked it down to a VPATH issue. See this make -d log: Finished prerequisites of target file `extlinux'. Prerequisite `extlinux.o' is newer than target `extlinux'. Prerequisite `setadv.o' is newer than target `extlinux'. Prerequisite

installing syslinux on a fresh system (SATA)
Hi I understand you (mostly). 0) How do i "install the MBR code as well and to activate your partition." 1) "mount /dev/sda1 /mnt" -->> successfully completed. 2) "mkdir /mnt/extlinux" -->> successfully completed. 3) "extlinux --install /mnt/extlinux" -->> does not work. Funny, but it it seems that there is no such thing as

extlinux 3.20-pre8 notes
hi Peter, everyone, I recently installed extlinux on my CF drive. after a few botches, it works, with menu.c32 too. Heres a few notes/observations: - menuing seems pretty sensitive to presence of tabs in extlinux.conf, unlike with pxelinux.cfg/default, Is this an oversight, or something Im misremembering ? - extlinux doesnt have the timeout after menu-choice. if I dont choose, it times out and

(no subject)
Hello all, apologies if my question has an obvious answer or it's too naive (I sent this directly to Peter with the intent of not chocking the list with possibly ridicolous questions...). I just tried to build both syslinux-3.00 and 3.01, with the same bad result. Out of the box compilation with: make depend make installer fails with: ... gcc -Wp,-MT,extlinux.o,-MMD,.extlinux.o.d -W

Re: Problem compiling syslinux-3.01
In my last post I pasted the last few line of the compile log for syslinux-3.02pre2. Here are the correct lines from my failed attempt to compile syslinux-3.01. Still the same error. make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/syslinux-3.01/unix' make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/syslinux-3.01/extlinux' gcc -Wp,-MT,extlinux.o,-MMD,.extlinux.o.d -W -Wall -Wno-sign-compare

Installing extlinux into a disk image without being root?
Hello, Is it possible to install extlinux into a disk image, without being root ? It seems like extlinux --install absolutely requires the specific block device in which extlinux should be installed to be mounted. This prevents from doing an extlinux installation as non-root, which is annoying for build systems such as Buildroot [1] that build a complete Linux system from source, without being

extlinux can't find extlinux.conf file?
When I try to boot my system using extlinux I get the error: EXTLINUX 3.51 2007-06-10 EBIOS Copyright (C) 1994-2007 H. Peter Anvin Could not find kernel image: linux boot: ???????????????????????????????? I've searched the archives and it would appear that extlinux can't find the extlinux.conf file.... Is there something glaring that I am missing? TIA - Phil I have a 32MB CF card
