usb 3
I am trying to plug a USB 2 device in a USB 3 slot. Nothing is being
detected
in "lsusb". Is there something special I need to do? I am running centos
5.5 x86_64.
I thought 3.0 was backward compatible. Nothing special about my device
its an RS232 to USB device.
It works in 2.0 slot.
Thanks,
Jerry

ralink rt61 in centos 5
Hello,
Does anybody knows if the rt61 driver from rt2x00.serialmonkey.com
works under centos 5?
And if so, what is the recommended command to build this driver from
sources, 'make install' or 'make install-fedora'?
Thanks a lot!
I need this driver for my ralink wlan card on my notebook.
I also could build this driver under a fresh centos 5 installation, but
it freezes my notebook

Re: ralink rt61 in centos 5 [solved]
Hello,
Maybe someone will run into the same problem, so here is how it works
for me.
I could not get work my wlan card (ralink rt61) with the driver from
rt2x00.serialmonkey.com under CentOS 5 (2.6.18-8.1.1.el5). All drivers
(beta and daily cvs) from this site freezes my system.
So I get the driver from the Ralink support at

RSync and translation
Yeah or Nay...
I have a directory like this on box Y...
ALBERT
BRADLEY
CHARLEY
and I want rsync to transfer and translate this
into...
A/ALBERT
B\BRADLEY
C\CHARLEY
on box Z
Without altering the original directory. Can this be
done?
Thanks, Roger

Convert \n newlines to html <br>
I have a textarea that accepts a shipping address, so I need to convert
newlines when it is displayed as html. I am new to ruby, and rails so an
example would be appreciated. I want to do this in the ''display'', not
the stored text if possible, since I use the newlines when generating a
pdf.
Thanks.

setting option in function
is it possible to set an option inside a function ((I want to set
na.action = na.fail) and have the previous state restored if there is
an error so that the function doesn't change the option behind the
user's back?
Sorry if this has been answered before, but this subject is hard to Google.

Standard Error for individual patient survival with survfit and summary.survfit
I am using the coxph, survfit and summary.survfit functions to calculate an estimate of predicted survival with confidence interval for future patients based on the survival distribution of an existing cohort of subjects. I am trying to understand the calculation and interpretation of the std.err and confidence intervals printed by the summary.survfit function.

detection of outliers
Hi,
this is both a statistical and a R question...
what would the best way / test to detect an outlier value among a series of 10 to 30 values ? for instance if we have the following dataset: 10,11,12,15,20,22,25,30,500 I d like to have a way to identify the last data as an outlier (only one direction). One way would be to calculate abs(mean - median) and if elevated (to what extent ?) delete the
