Beta stochastic simulation
Hi, I am finding that I get quite different results when I interchange the following "equivalent" lines for sampling from a beta distribution in my r script. The rbeta line is correct judging by the summary statistics of the simulated values, while the qbeta line consistently leads to a higher mean simulated value. simulation <- rbeta(1, alpha, beta) simulation <- qbeta(runif(1),

Question about levels/as.numeric
Hi, I am still new to R and this is my first post on this mailing-list. I have two .csv (each one being a column of real numbers) coming from the same database (the first one is just longer than the second) and I read them in R the following way: returns <- read.csv("test.csv", header = FALSE) returns2 <- read.csv("test2.csv", header = FALSE) However, the two

OCFS2 Upgrade
I have inherited an Oracle system which we have installed on a client site with the specs below. There was a kernel upgrade done by the patch management team at their site which broke the cluster. Once the kernel was reverted the system came back up. Am somewhat of a newbie to ocfs, etc and am trying to verify something. To do a kernel upgrade the ocfs2 (CRS) and ASM would have to be upgraded

cannot write to CIFS shares on a Windows box from Centos 6
Another issue that I found was that I cannot write to CIFS shares on a Windows server with Centos 6. I can write to them from Centos 5 and older Fedora versions, but not from Centos 6. Any ideas on what needs to be changed or where I can start looking for some indication of what is wrong? Thank you, Ryan Palamara ZAIS Group, LLC 2 Bridge Avenue, Suite 322 Red Bank, New Jersey 07701 Phone: (732)

Samba swamps the server's CPU
Hi. I'm running Samba 2.2.2 and Linux 2.4.7 on a dual PPro-200/256KB server. The relevant NIC is an Intel EtherExpress PRO/100+. The problem I'm having is that certain programs will swamp the server; the load will spike immediately to 50% (i.e., 100% on one CPU) and performance will, naturally, bite. Having another active connection to the server at the same time causes _monster_

Friday Jan 9th at Noon ET: VoicePHP from TringMe
Hi all, We've had Yusuf Motiwala from TringMe on the VoIP Users Conference before when he annouced their Flash-based web phones. Now they've come up with something that tantalizes me, VoicePHP. Sure XML is a standard and fairly easy to implement, but not as easy as PHP, which I have used since version 2 (Yup, shadesof.phtml) Here's GigOm's take on it: http://tr.im/2y4g Check

Windows cannon connect to the domain, either because the domain controller is down or otherwise unavailable, or because your computer account was not found. Can anybody think of what is causing this? Any help

NFS mounts group name shows as nobody
I am trying to find out why my group names are showing as nobody. I have a CentOS 6 system that is acting as a NFS server. I have some older fedora clients where the group name shows up fine, but newer CentOS 6 clients have the group name for NFS mounts show up as "nobody". The username shows up fine but the group name shows up as "nobody". I have tried changing some setting

[PATCH] Specify PAM Service name in sshd_config
Hello All, The attached patch allows openssh to specify which pam service name to authenticate users against by specifying the PAMServiceName attribute in the sshd_config file. Because the parameter can be included in the Match directive sections, it allows different authentication based on the Match directive. In our case, we use it to allow different levels of authentication based on the

Quota not working with dict proxy
Hello all, I'm sure this has been covered somewhere before, but my googlefu is not up to the challenge. Basically, I'm trying to configure quota plugin to use a dictionary service (specifically proxy with mysql) so that I can store the quota usage in a database and use that information in a lookup for postfix to reject mail if over quota. I'm doing this because postfix+avamis+dovecot
