How to subset a data frame to include only first events
Hi there, I have data frame with columns ID and Date. There are multiple rows for each ID, but I only want to keep the *first* such row--i.e., the row corresponding to the earliest event. So if I had, say, 1000 rows of 100 IDs doing an average of ten events each, I'd run this trimming procedure and end up with a data frame containing 100 rows (one for each ID), where each row record that

Hi all, It seems like I cannot use normal 'if' for data frames. What would be the best way to do the following. if data$col1='high' data$col2='H' else if data$col1='Neutral' data$col2='N' else if data$col='low' data$col2='L' else #chuch a warning? Note that col2 was not an existing column and was newly assigned for this

Subsetting year range
Hi, I have a panel data set that I am trying to subset. I am trying to keep values for years >=1960. The full set is from 1940 to 2000. I tried a few things, but none worked. Here are a couple that I am trying to use. TableAPS1 <- subset(TableAP, year => 1959) TableAPS1 <- TableAP[ which(year > 1959),] It would be really nice if someone can point out what I am doing wrong

Cumulative Plot with Given X-Axis
Dear all, I have data that looks like this. In which I want to plot accumulative value of dat1 with respect to x-axis. Also plot it together with dat2. What's the common way to do it in R? I looked at ECDF from Hmisc, it doesn't seem to do what I want. In particular it doesn't allow us to give x-axis value. #x-axis dat1 dat2 -10 0.0140149 0.0140146 -9

Extracting Numeric Columns from Data Fram
Hello, I've got a data frame with a mix of numeric, integer and factor columns. I'd like to pull out (or just operate only on) the numeric/integer columns. Every thing I've found in searches is about how to subset by rows, or how to operate assuming you have the column names.  I'd like to pull by type. Thanks! Barry [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

(Is it ok to send attachments to this list? Not sure. It's very small.) I need to be able to

Row median of Date class variables in a data frame
I am trying to calculate the median of each row of a data frame where the data frame consist of columns of class Date. Below are my test data and best attempt at using apply. I didn't see a solution via Google or the Baron search site. I'd be grateful for any suggestions or solutions. I'm using R 2.0.0 on Mac OS X. Thank you, Stephen Weigand ### Test data date1 <- c(1000,
