maximum cpus/cores in CentOS 4.1
What is the maximum number of AMD64 cores supported by CentOS 4? The RedHat page https://www.redhat.com/software/rhel/configuration/ suggests that RHEL 4 AS supports up to 8 AMD64/EM64T logical cpus. Is that accurate and does it apply to CentOS 4? I see a few vendors offering boxes with 8 (dual core) CPU sockets. IWILL for one. Thanks, Tony Schreiner Boston College

Sun Servers with UltraSparc Processors
Hi, I'm just considering buying two Telecoms grade Sun Netra's to run a lab-based VoIP solution. Not my immediate thoughts as a VoIP platform, but from what I've heard, they can run Linux, and run it well. Only thing is: The Wiki and the Whitepaper just state that Asterisk is for the x86 architecture, but has been compiled to run on PPC architectures. No mention of UltraSparc.

Confirming Multi-Processor
I have a test bed server that's pretty old- PIII Dual 550. I've done yum update kernel-smp and when I run cat/proc/cpuinfo it lists both processors- is there anything I need to to to confirm that it's fully utilizing both processors? I ask this because under the old OS (Fedora Core 2) I always saw an error message at boot that said something about operating in single-processor mode

Sparc?
My 12 year old wants to learn more about servers and has memorized a lot of commands like ls, chmod, du, etc. He wants to have his own domain and server on the web and I have enough Static IP's, so why not foster this interest. I have an old ultra sparc 5. Are there any CentOS versions that support Sparc? Or recommendations? I know OpenBSD does, but I am more versed in Solaris and versions

Hi, i want to port an open-source project to sparc. I just downloaded OpenSolaris (sol-nv-b75-sparc-...iso), created an empty image for the hard disk, and tried to start qemu in a linux x64bit-host: qemu-system-sparc -hda test.img -cdrom sol-nv-b75-sparc-v1.iso -boot d -nographic The output says: Nvram id QEMU_BIOS, version 1 CPUs: 1 nvram error detected, zapping pram Welcome to OpenBIOS

OT: Dell BIOS and mixed drives
I have a Dell Precision 360, which has both onboard SATA and ultra ATA controllers, and I put one of each kind of drive into the bays to make an experimental machine with the xen kernel. After enabling both of drives, the BIOS recognizes each drive, but it fails to boot, giving me the message "secondary drive 1 not found". The BIOS gives me a choice of going ahead or going to setup.

New laptop recomendation
Hi, I'm recently retired from my university job. I am looking for a laptop to run CentOS 6/7. My university was a traditional Dell site so I've used Latitude laptops for years, currently E6500/E6510. Anybody got any experience of running CentOS on the newer Dell Latitudes E5000 or E7000. These are not certified according to Redhats' Hardware Guide. Alternatively Precision

factor to numeric in data.frame
Dear All, Assume I have a data.frame that contains also factors and I would like to get another data.frame containing the factors as numeric vectors, to apply functions like sapply(..., median) on them. I read the warning concerning as.numeric or unclass, but in my case this makes sense, because the factor levels are properly ordered. I can do it, if I write for each single column

How to enable F12 key to start PXE boot?
I researched on Archive, but the instruction says to copy startrom.com to startrom.0, so I changed boot program to startrom.0 instead of pxelinux.0, it gives me a TFTP error saying file not found. then I keep startrom.0, change boot program back to pxelinux.0, then I do not see F12 key and boot directly to PXE. then I change the boot program to startrom.com it asked me to press F12, but can
