uidswap
All,
Could someone explain the purpose of the uidswap functions with
respect to ssh ( the client ). From what I gathered , ssh installs as
setuid root and swaps ids when reading potential key files that may be read
only by root. Also , I think when binding to a privileged port ssh swaps
id. Is that so? What are the consequnences if you do not install ssh setuid
root? ( As far I as know no uid

Script to convert mboxes to maildirs?
Does anybody know of a script of a simple method of
converting mbox mail stores to maildirs? I'm moving
from an old pop3 system to imap and after installing
about half our office with mboxes have found that mbox
does not support subfolders which some people like to
use.
Is there any simple way of converting? I can go to
each individual account and "manually" convert swaping
data

Rsync 2.4.6 and Hammerd CPU's
Hello -
I'm running Redhat 7.1 Rsync 2.4.6 and am having some problems with the
CPU's getting swammped. What we have is basically an 3 boxes, 1 machine (the
factory) is a where applications store the images that eventually are used
for the site, then the other 2 are the webservers that the have copy of the
images. The person who set the machines up used rsync to move any new images

astonishing memory phenomenon
I have a question concerning memory.
I understood that R takes a fixed amount of memory at startup (which I can
influence with --vsize --nsize) and that gc() shows the memory still free of
the total memory reserved for R.
However, if I create a long vector of character data, gc() only seem to
reflect the space needed for a vector of pointers to char, the space used
for the character data itself

Having Samba integrate/replace existing mixed Unix/Windows network
I've recently inherited a two-headed monster of a network and would like to
see what Samba can do for me to help clean up the situation. Due to
bias/preference of the past administrator, who favored Unix, when it came
time to introduce Windows machines to our department, he basically built a
parallel network (physically and logically), and let a graduate student
manage the Windows

How to properly bridge the network to CentOS under Parallels on a Macbook Pro?
Hi all,
I have recently acquired a Macbook Pro (sweet machine!) from my
employer, and one of the tasks the machine has to do is to run a
distributed software development platform (called Splice) under Linux.
For this task, I have chosen the trusty CentOS 4.4, and I have it set
up in Parallels. So far, so good. Now then, the network does work
within CentOS, but I want to assign it a fixed

Tinc route disappearing after some time
Hello,
I have the route created by tinc in router mode disappearing after some
time with a rather simple configuration.
I want to join two (or more) networks accross the internet, primarily to
access network shares. Those networks have their own DHCPs and are
autonomous, i.e. not dependent on the VPN connection.
I think Tinc in router mode is best suited for my case and this example

swap
Hello everybody,
I wonder if there is any swap function in R that does the following:
x <- seq(1,10,12)
x1 <- swap(x)
x1
1 8 3 4 5 6 7 2 10
Thank you very much!

machine name lookups
We have been looking for a way to notify our users when they
are running low on disk quota, without sending them mail.
WinPopup actually seemed like the best way, so my partner
began looking at feeding quota output into smbclient -M
when quota was getting tight.
The only problem is that smbclient -M frequently fails to find
the client's host name. The -I parameter will often fix it, but

Swaping out phones.
I have a quick question. I am using Asterisk 1.4. I have a user that has changed phones (grandstream budge tone 200 to a polycom 330). I have changed the sip.conf and extensions.conf. I have also unplugged the old phone and plugged in the new phone. I get the ext showing on the phone, but when I do a sip show peer 5000 the old ip address and phone show up. I did a sip reload and a dialplan reload.

Serial Ports and syslogd
Hello,
It's a bit off topic, but I'm hoping someone has seen this before. I'm running a couple of headless boxes, one is 4.7 release, the other is 4.8 release. Both have the same issue with newsyslog when I've got the serial port enabled for console management. (-h in boot.conf and a getty running on cuaa0 after the boot process)
Logrotate tries to send an HUP to syslogd, but

Securring DHCP, with DDNS
Hello All,
I have 2 samba4 AD server with dhpd and dynamic DNS.
I have well understand that for now it's not possible to have 2 DHCP
server running in the same time.
So I would have at a time only one dhcp server running.
If the first server got a problem I want to manually start the isc-dhcp
service in the second to rescue the system.
But It's not working as I expected...
If I switch

Securring DHCP, with DDNS
You may have 2 dhcps running, but you have to make sure the lease ranges are different. The first dns server stanza should refer to the server which gets the lease update.
For the dns servers you would need to define each other as forwarder, probably by ip range, to be able to resolve the other (half of the) names.

Rowland.. the solution to the failover came after we advices to setup with 2 servers and manualy start them up..
Maybe its best we put this on the samba wiki?
Would help a lot of users.
