Failure demoting 2008_R2 DC (S4rc5)
Hello,
We are currently testing S4rc5 for an upcoming S3 to S4 migration. I am
able to duplicate this issue with both classicupgrade and a new provision
(both cases using internal DNS). I am able to join a 2008R2 system to the
domain and promote it to a DC, however I am unable to demote it. The
problem appears to be that the 2008R2 server fails replicating to the S4
DC. The specific error that I

STATUS_SHARE_VIOLATION when Read while Write on GPFS + CTDB
Hi,
in the following scenario I've got the Problem of "STATUS_SHARE_VIOLATION".
Client A (with User 1) copies a file to share X. (with: DENY_NONE 0x120196 WRONLY NONE)
Client B (with User 1) reads this file from share X (with: DENY_NONE 0x120089 RDONLY NONE)
Now Client C (with User 1) wants also to read this file from share X and gets the STATUS_SHARE_VIOLATION.

CTDB Samba Deployment
Hi,
Has anybody deployed a CTDB cluster(http://ctdb.samba.org/) successfully
with multiple nodes serving SMB simultaneously authenticating via Active
Directory(using Winbind)? If yes, can you please share /etc/samba/smb.conf
and /etc/sysconfig/ctdb?
Thanks in Advance,

CTDB and NFS4
Hi everyone,
I'm sorry if this has already been covered somewhere, but I've had a look
and can't find it. Also if there is a better place for this question,
please let me know.
I know that the CTDB documentation states that only NFS2/3 are supported
with CTDB but what I'd really like to know is why NFS4 won't work and if
NFS4 support is planned for the future (timeline?).

CTDB NFS setup?
Hello,
I try to set up a clustered samba server (on Novell SLES11SP2) based
upon CTDB and NFS. My problem is that I do not yet understand the
structure of the setup when using NFS.
I followed the documentation in
http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/CTDB_Setup#Setting_up_CTDB_for_clustered_NFS
As far as I understand this documentation, it should be possible to set
up a samba cluster say having 3

kernel oplocks in ctdb environment
Hi
Can anyone advise me on "kernel oplocks" in a ctdb cluster.
I have a ctdb (GPFS is the parallel file system) setup that uses samba
(3.5.8) for cifs and IBM CNFS for NFS. Reading the documentation on
kernel oplocks it seems to me that I can export the same area via samba
and NFS with "kernel oplocks = Yes" .
My logic is that IBM CNFS has shared NFS locking

CTDB Samba 4.10 example?
Hi there,
I use Samba 4.9 since its releaseday and also had some troubles first due to the lack of informations in the wiki.
Anyways... after some try & error i got it working and since i run the Cluster (non-production environment) had no errors except CTDBs monitoring of the Samba process did'nt work as i would expect it
(RPC-Server was dead but CTDB did'nt complain and "ctdb

Active/Passive Samba Cluster for Shared NFS Backend
Hello,
I am working on setting up an Active/Passive Samba cluster on Ubuntu 14.04
using Samba 4.1.6. Samba will be sharing an NFS mount so that it can be
accessible to CIFS clients. Thus, the server setup is as follows:

vfs_gpfs module errors
Hi
I'm encountering an error with some of my Windows clients when
using CTDB and samba to access a GPFS hosted share. We see the following
error all the time.
[2011/03/14 12:31:16.549084, 1] modules/vfs_gpfs.c:1099(vfs_gpfs_ntimes)

The copy continues but is slow. All the timestamps seem reasonable for
the data copied.

NAS and 2 active Samba servers / locking not working
Hi,
I have one NAS which I can access via NFS or Samba.
This storage is accessed by 2 linux servers with Samba where I re-export the NAS share. This is sort of an active/active loadbalancing cluster.
The only thing not working is locking... If a client opens a Word-File via server1 and another opens the same via server2 it won't inform the user that he can only open the file readonly.

Errors in parse_share_modes Testing CTDB 2.3 and Samba 4.0.7
I'm working on building a CTDB/Samba cluster on AIX 7.1 with the latest
levels to replace an older one running CTDB 1.0.113 and Samba 3.6.1. I
have the new servers up and running and they seem to work, but I'm worried
about some messages in the logs. I run with log level 1 on the servers so
that the connection details are logged. On the old cluster there were
only connection/closed

Partially transferred files keep locked for a while after client disconnected ungracefully
Hi Experts,
When copying a big file from Windows to a Samba share working with the
normal TDB mode rather than CTDB mode, the Windows client disconnected from
the network ungracefully such as cable unplugging or network disabling.
Then, try to delete the partial transferred file from another client, we
will be prompted that another program is using this file. The lock can be
easily observed by

The Recycled PIDs Fix
** Low Priority **
Hi Volker,
This is regarding your fix on recycled PIDs. I am an NCP developer from Novell and we use libsmbsharemodes library
from Samba for Cross Protocols Locks between NCP, Samba and others. I have few queries regarding your fix.
In your fix, you have added a new field called 'unique_id' in the server_id structure
and we need to pass this in our call to samba

ACL Problems with Samba and ADS Integration
I am running a Samba Box as a Domain Member in a Windows ADS Domain (Windows Server 2003). The Box has joined the ADS domain and the kerberos authentication works, I can see "smbd" processes running with AD user accounts.
But I can not set ACLs on the directories or the files located on the share. If I change them using Windows Explorer, they either will be ignored by samba, or I get the

CTDB + Samba + Winbind + ActiveDirectory
Hi All,
Are there any special CTDB/SMB configuration settings/dependencies to manage
Winbind across CTDB managed servers authenticating via Active
Directory(AD)? An example would be Samba's IDMAP backend for Winbind: RID
vs. AD or tag Winbind to a primary CTDB node and point other nodes to
authenticate from AD via proxy primary CTDB node?
/etc/sysconfig/ctdb on all nodes is as follows:

Password Resets as root
I've got a cluster of Samba servers with security=user and a ctdb passdb
backend. I need to keep the passwords for the users in sync with another
system, which will pass me userid and password for each change and reset.
My question is what is the simplest way to do the password reset for a
user as root on one of the Samba servers. I need to allow the user to
change their password
