Extract/format/show for S4 objects (Johann Hibschman)
Johann,
Following up on Gabor's reply, the mondate package (new on CRAN last week)
will accomplish your needs.

subtract a time period from a date
Hello everybody,
how can I reduce e.g. 30 days from a date?
When I do the following "2011-05-01 CEST" -"2011-04-01 CEST" I get:
"Time difference of 30 days"
an thats fine.
But when I try "2011-05-01 CEST" - 30 I get nonsense.
So how can I subtract some days, month or years from a date?
thanking you in anticipation

date conversation
Hello,
when I convert a factor like this a=01.10.2009
into a date using b=strptime(a, format="%d. %m. %Y").
It works very well.
But when I try to convert c = 2009/10 into a date using
d=strptime(c, format="%Y/%m")
it doesnt work at all. I get d=NA.
What did I do wrong?
Thank you very much for your help!
best regards
Claudia

Bug in function boxplot's axis labeling
Dear developeRs,
I appreciate that boxplot now labels the axes with variable names per
default. However, with argument "horizontal=TRUE" (which I always use),
the default axis labels are mixed up, as can e.g. be seen with
require(boot)
boxplot(time ~ poison, poisons, horizontal=TRUE)
The correct labels would be obtained by
boxplot(time ~ poison, poisons, horizontal=TRUE,

Importing function that is previously imported by other package
Dear developeRs,
I encounter the following problem: in the current version of my package
FrF2, certain calls to a functioni do not work when package combinat is
loaded, because function combn from combinat masks the function from
utils that my package uses.
I tried to solve this issue by importing function combn into the
namespace of FrF2; I don't need to export it, I just want to use it

dynamic reports with sweave: error when compiling the tex-file
Definitely yes I just tried a one line latex document and it bombed with \begin{ document } but is fine with \begin{document} .
I think the spaces within the {} must all be removed. Latex does not like spaces

Private environments and/or assignInMyNamespace
Dear DevelopeRs,
I've been struggling with the new regulations regarding modifications to
the search path, regarding my Rcmdr plugin package RcmdrPlugin.DoE. John
Fox made Rcmdr comply with the new policy by removing the environment
RcmdrEnv from the search path. For the time being, he developed an
option that allows users to put the environment from Rcmdr (RcmdrEnv) on
the search path,

How to use: library lattice: barchart
Dear ladies and gentlemen!
In the help text for the xyplot (library(lattice), help(xyplot)) is an example
given how one can use barchart:
barchart(yield ~ variety | site, data = barley,
groups = year, layout = c(1,6),
ylab = "Barley Yield (bushels/acre)",
scales = list(x = list(abbreviate = TRUE,
minlength = 5)))

OH323 Channel Driver buffer sizes
Hello!
Anyone with some insight into the oh323 channel driver please shed
some light on the code block below from wrapendpoint.cxx.
When enabling trace on the channel driver i get this, for me, strange
debug info:
WrapH323EndPoint::OpenAudioChannel: Direction => PLAYER, Buffer => 320
WrapH323EndPoint::OpenAudioChannel: FrameSize 8, FrameTime 8, TimeUnits

Adding difftime objects to POSIXt objects
Hello,
?DateTimeClasses states that "one can add or subtract a number of
seconds or a 'difftime' object from a date-time object, but not add two
date-time objects."
So, is the below expected behavior?
> x <- Sys.time()
> x
[1] "2007-02-21 16:19:56 CST"
> x + as.difftime("1","%H")
[1] "2007-02-21 16:19:57 CST"

dovecot upgrade problems
Hi list,
i made an upgrade from dovecot 1.0RC15 to 1.1.20
the default installation was under /etc/dovecot.
The upgrade installation was made under /usr/local/etc.
After that i changed all the paths in the /usr/local/etc/dovecot.conf
and the dovecot-binary to work with the new installation.
Even path-changes were made for /etc/init.d/dovecot to work with the
version 1.1.20.

Operations on difftime (abs, /, c)
Since both comparison and negation are well-defined for time differences, I
wonder why abs and division are not defined for class difftime. This
behavior is clearly documented on the man page: "limited arithmetic is
available on 'difftime' objects"; but why? Both are natural, semantically
sound, and useful operations and I see no obvious reason that they should
give an error:

Wishlist: In documentation, say that `+.Date`(Date, difftime) should be called directly or remove 'or an object of class "difftime"' (PR#14072)
Full_Name: Suharto Anggono
Version: 2.8.1

Submission from: (NULL) (125.161.134.206)
About PR#14067, now I understand why (Date + difftime) does not use '+.Date'.
But, before I understand, it was surprising. The surprise is also reflected in
the post "Problem with +(POSIXt, difftime) dispatching -- WAS: How to create
sequence of constant time interval" in R-help
