Writing .xlsx files
Dear all,
I have been looking for possibilities to read and write Excel 2007-files
in and from R.
The 'reading' part is ok through odbcConnectExcel2007 and sqlFetch(RODBC).
For 'writing' I thought of using sqlSave in the same package, but it
does not work (I think because this function starts from an existing
file). Is there a workaround for this, or are there other plausible

R2wd package wdGet() error
I am having trouble using the R2wd package. The last time I used it
successfully, I was running an earlier version of R and an earlier version
of Word with an earlier Windows OS. I'm not sure which if any of these
changes might be contributing to the problem. Right now I'm using
R version 2.15.0 (2012-03-30) for Windows

install anything else to run that? Would guys here guide me?
Thanks

R Report (was RE: R-help Digest, Vol 90, Issue 25)
I've been following the "R Reports" topic in the digest mode, so
apologies if this has already been mentioned.
On a Windows platform, there is a package called R2wd which I've
recently discovered and have been using. It allows one to put data
frames (it's the only object I've tried so far) into a very nicely Word
formatted table. E.g in its documentation it has this

Creating GUIs for R
Hi all,
I have looked around for help on creating GUIs for R, but haven't found
anything. I would be interested in any advice or webpages that have
information on the best language, tutorials etc. for creating simple GUIs.
Mainly I want to do this as a heuristic exercise.
Thanks for any help.

R user interface
Hi R,
I have a an excel file with a lot of data. I need to create an user
interface in R, which has one single screen. It needs to contain a right
pane containing the click buttons for different countries (say). If the
user clicks a country, then a chart needs to be created for that
country, taking the data from Excel. Is this possible and which package
helps me in doing this? Many thanks in

gc_inhibit_torture definition twice?
I have a problem to understand the way gc_inhibit_torture is defined.
In include/Defn.h it is declared as extern, using the __MAIN__ trick this leads to
a definition in main/main.c.
But in main/memory.c you define (and initialize) gc_inhibit_torture again:
int gc_inhibit_torture = 1; /* gets set to zero after initialisations */
Then, in e.g. unix/system.c immediately at the beginning of
