Dumb question (KDE Trash Can)
Hi All,
I've got a really dumb question. I seem to have lost my Trash Can on my
KDE desktop and try and as I might I can't get it back. Anyone have any
idea how I can create this again or get it back? It's on the desktop as
it should be in Gnome, but has disappeared from the KDE desktop.

Annoying Mouse Tricks
Hi All,
Something that just has been annoying the daylights out of me for the
past 9 months with no resolution in site. I've got a Hawking HKS 104 4
port KVM connecting my Linux workstation, 2 servers, and my wife's
windows workstation to one monitor, mouse, and keyboard.
No matter how I toggle back and forth whether by keyboard or directly on
the device once I come back to the linux

Yum Mirror Errors
While attempting to grab some packages from the repos I've been getting
a lot of mirror errors. Anyone have any idea why?
I've recently updated from CentOS 5 Beta2 to the final version and it
went flawlessly. The first thing I did though was to update the
centos-release packages per a previous post. I was under the impression
this would take care of repo problems. Was I incorrect?

php + Informix IDS via IFX Module Howto for Centos5
Dear all
I've come out with a howto that I wish to contribute back to the
community. This howto is actually a sort of a draft that I made for
my own "self-reminder". It was an interesting experience collating
the data to eventually come out with the stuffs.
I hope it is useful enough to someone not to go through the same

Diskless Sharedroot Cluster
Hi all!
We have just released new updates for the yum channel of the open-sharedroot
software for CentOS4 and CentOS5.
With the open-sharedroot software package, you can build up a NFS or GFS based
diskless sharedroot cluster with CentOS4 and CentOS5. It also contains a
toolset to clone or backup entire diskless sharedroot clusters.

rsync bug with --relative and --delete fixed in CentOS5?
Yohoo!
I'm using rsnapshot-1.3.0-1.el5.rf (from DAG) and rsync-2.6.9-1.el5.rf (from
CentOS5) together.
Rsnapshot now starts every task with the "--relative" switch. Without this
switch it will backup all subsequent folders (like /proc and so on) which
isn't desired. So I can't omit the "--relative".
But there was a bug for rsync prior to 2.6.9 that it won't

That is a very good questions and I personally veel very sad that Red Hat
chose to do this.
RHEL5 (and CentOS 5) are based on development done on Fedora Core 6. Red
Hat started off with Fedora Core 6 when creating

Clarifications
Hi,
I was wondering, rhel5/centos5 is 686, but when I went to
http://dag.wieers.com , the packages for rhel5 are either 386 or
x86_64. Why?
Should I recompile them for 686 or is it a waste of time or it makes no
difference or...

Whereis yum-rhn-plugin package?
Hi all,
I need to setup a repo server to allocate updates for RHEL3, RHEL4, RHEL5 and
CentOS5. Apart of mrrepo tool, I see that I can use reposync from yum-utils
package and yum-rhn-plugin package to setup a mirror update server. But I can't
to find yum-rhn-plugin under centos5 repo. Where is it?? Or I need to use
package released from upstream vendor??
Thanks

Howto/Tutorial: Compiling Xen 4.2 from source on RHEL5/CentOS5, RHEL6/CentOS6, Fedora 16, Fedora 17
Hello,
I just wrote instructions for building Xen 4.2 from sources on various RPM-based Linux distributions.
The guide is available here:
http://wiki.xen.org/wiki/Xen_4.2_Build_From_Source_On_RHEL_CentOS_Fedora
I was able to successfully build Xen 4.2.0-rc2 on the following Linux distros:
- CentOS 5.8 x64
- CentOS 6.3 x64
- Fedora 17 x64

A Working 64 bit Browser Plugin - at Last!!
FYI:
Upon installing 64 bit firefox on RHEL 5/Centos5/SAL5 , the first problem
everyone seems to complain about is no working java plugin. A patched
plugin from the <discontinued> Blackdown Project was available, but it was
written against the vulnerable JRE 1.4.2.
I too gave up on this until I discovered Red Hat's "iced tea" project. The

unexpected mass closing of terminal windows
Hello,
I apologize if this isn't quite the right spot to ask, but I did some
googling on fc6, rhel5, centos5, terminal closings, etc and came up blank.
Three times since I installed CentOS5 on this machine (11 days ago), I
have had ***all my my terminal windows spontaneously exit***.
For example: just now, I have a CD playing, firefox open with a few tabs,
and emacs open. I also had ~5

The use of Centos logo
Hi all,
A friend of mine asks me to teach him Linux using RHEL5. But, I insist that
rather than using RHEL5, we use Centos5 instead, and he agrees :)
So, I'm thinking of giving him a "certificate of attendance" and putting
Centos logo on it. May I do that? What is the guidelines?
Thank you :)

[CentOS5beta] kernel crash due to a known bug
After a successful installation of CentOS5 beta, I "successfully" crashed
the system twice already. This is caused by a known bug in the cifs
kernel module. The patch became available in January:

I am installing CentOS5 on a dell Lattitude D610.
dmesg: recognizes the the wireless Intel 2915:
ipw2200: Detected Intel Pro/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection
I have googled for ipw2915 and centos5 OR rhel5, can't find
instructions for installing the firmware.
Should the firmware be installed from the CDs?
Any suggestion?

Migrating from RHEL5 to CentOS-5 -- little report
Hi,
Starting with http://wiki.centos.org/FAQ/CentOS3 I wanted to test how to migrate my x86_64 machine
from in installed RHEL5 (fully updated) to the current CentOS5 without reinstalling.
The steps I had to do were:
1. steps in RHEL5:
a. yum clean all
b. installing RPM-GPG-KEY-CentOS-5.htm from http://mirror.centos.org/centos/ (by rpm)
c. installing by rpm from
