Some questions: Release Notes CentOS 5.6
Hello A couple of days ago, I did the Spanish translation for ReleaseNotes CentOS 5.6 and I have some questions Right now, in the Spanish version we are using nice icons for "Notes". Would you like the same in the English and other translated versions ? (I know that is not important, just looks nice ;-) ) On many places we mention packages names or file names. I suggest use

issues when add driverdisk to centos5.6 using NFS method
Hi, I am Ken.. I am trying to add dud(driver update disk) to centos5.6 using network method, I can successfully add dud to centos5.6 using http and ftp method, but fail when using nfs method. However those all three methods are officially supported in the centos5.6. As indicated in the centos5.6 website, we can see they not only support http, ftp, but also nfs.

trying to rebuild an old nvidia driver
Let me start by saying that no, I can't get a new card for my user. So, I've got the 96 nvidia driver. I've rebuilt it several times before, and Nvidia's installer's always worked fine. Actually, I have the 73 on my system, and just updated to 5.5, and no problem. HOWEVER, I last rebuilt my user's driver back in mid-April, after the last kernel update (was that

yum Transaction Check Error: re: nvidia conflicts
Googling this (specifically the nvidia-bug-report line below) doesn't find anything. This is a server (console is text only, no GUI), so we may not need x11 nor nvidia, I dunno for sure. Thanks in advance for your thoughts. kind regards/ldv Transaction Check Error: file /usr/bin/nvidia-bug-report.sh from install of dkms-nvidia-x11-drv-185.18.14-1.nodist.rf conflicts with file from

Tag flac as flac 1.2.1_git
I seem to recall that changes in the second number indicated a minor change in the *format* of the file itself (for example, 1.1.x to 1.2.x introduced a new rice coding option used for 24-bit files). Are there any format changes that would justify that ? Otherwise, 1.2.2 would seem more appropriate, not to minimize the work that you are doing... Cheers, Pyt. http://www.mjuware.com On Sat, Jan

Tag flac as flac 1.2.1_git
The initial rule was, if I can recall correctly : - Changes in the first digit (e.g. 1.x.x to 2.x.x) indicate a break in backwards compatibility ; i.e. the formats are totally different. - Changes in the second digit indicate backward-compatible changes in the format (i.e. a 1.1.x-encoded file is only a particular case of a 1.2.x-encoded file) - Changes in the third digit reflect any other,

Good wifi NIC?
Good morning, I'm looking for a good USB Wifi NIC that will work with the kernel modules for a stock CentOS 8.1. I have an ALFA AWUS036ACH NIC but it looks like the drivers need to compiler for the kernel and I'm having trouble with that. So I'd like something that works, but not necessarily high performing, so I can build the drivers for the ALFA NIC. Thanks! Jeff

Xen with Centos 4.3 - pointers?
Howdy, I'd like to play with Xen on top of a Centos 4.3 installation. I've been googling, but haven't found a nice comprehensive set of notes to get me started. I've looked at the XenSource site, a wiki site that tells you how to get CentOS working in a Xen shell (or whatever it's called). So, for a Xen newbie, does anyone have have any pointeds to notes, documentation,

xorg updates hose GUI with Nvidia driver
Just a heads up that once again an xorg update has removed the link in /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/extensions that points to libglx.so.325.15 in /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/extensions/nvidia thus breaking X. This should only effect those with nvidia proprietary driver. One of the following packages is the culprit but I have not tried to narrow it down. I have done updates and downgrades several

Software Updater issue
Hey All, Heads up! For some reason the Software Updater thought it would be interesting for me if it upgraded my nvidia 304 driver with the nvidia 310.32-1 driver. That would be nice if the 310 driver supported my crusty old GS 7600 but it doesn't. I had to run two yum downgrade sessions to get it back to working again. First downgrade brought me 310.19-2, which doesn't support

Hello fellow CentOS users, until now I was using CentOS 5.5 with php 5.3 through this file: # grep -v ^# /etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Testing.repo [c5-testing] name=CentOS-5 Testing baseurl=http://dev.centos.org/centos/$releasever/testing/$basearch/ enabled=1 gpgcheck=1 gpgkey=http://dev.centos.org/centos/RPM-GPG-KEY-CentOS-testing includepkgs=php* Today I have updated to CentOS 5.6 by running

CentOS 7.2, nouveau won't go away
Hi, folks, Fully updated 7.2 system. I installed the correct proprietary NVidia driver (the user's expensive proprietary visualization software won't run with nouveau), I've put nouveau.modeset=0 rd.driver.blacklist=nouveau on the kernel line for grub2, and even yum removed the nouveau driver and built a new initrd... which won't boot, it seems to start and than does nothing,
