nfs4 and idmapd
I'm using CentOS5.9 and mounting a remote directory via NFSv4. The nfs
server is OpenIndiana 151.a.7 (i.e. Solaris).
Users bin and daemon have each others ID on the oposite system.
On OpenIndiana:
User: bin; ID=2
User: daemon; ID=1
On CentOS:
User: bin; ID=1
User: daemon; ID=2
That means if I create a file as daemon on the client (CentOS), it gets
saved on the server as owner bin

nfs4, idmapd, users with same name, different uid?
Is idmapd supposed to work where users have different uid numbers on
the nfsv4 server and client? It seems to show the right names for
ownership on the client side, but if I automount a home directory,
that user doesn't have permission to enter it, and if I change
permission to allow access and create a new file, it shows on the
server as owned by the uid number for the user on the client

How to install libvirt 0.9.4 RPM on Fedora 14?
Hi,
I'm trying to install the newest version of libvirt and libvirt-client from
the rpms at ftp://libvirt.org/libvirt/ on a Fedora 14 machine. The naming of
the rpms as "libvirt-0.9.4-1.fc14.x86_64.rpm" suggests that this is exactly
the system this was made for, however, installation still does not go
smoothly.
When I try to install these packages with
yum install

Re: [Fedora-xen] another xen build and pvops kernel
Just wondering why kernel-2.6.32.23-170.xendom0.fc12.src.rpm cannot make itself
into F14. It seems pretty stable. Why it cannot be just a package available via "yum install" . Anyway Fedora''s Libvirt has the best compatibility with Xen 4.0.1.
It''s not too late switch back to Xen with PVOPS kernel. XenLinux 2.6.34.7 aka Suse
is really dangerous . It outperforms pvops

advice on removing these daemons from server - rpc.statd rpc.idmapd acpid

is there any reason i would want any of these daemons active in memory on a
simple DNS server if i do not use NFS and... of course, the unit is not
being used as a workstation.

rpc.idmapd error after upgrade to 5.1
Hello,
after upgrade from CentOS 5 to 5.1 I see the following error
in /var/log/messages:
'rpc.idmapd[2330]: main: open(/var/lib/nfs/rpc_pipefs/nfs): No such
file or directory'
The directory exists with the permissions
dr-xr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Dec 7 10:21 nfs
So is this an owner/permisson problem?
Should /var/lib/nfs/rpc_pipefs/nfs be owned by rpcuser?
# ls -al /var/lib/nfs/

NFS4 issue
We are running kernel 2.6.18-164.6.1.el5 with exporting 3 aoe provided
ext4 directories. For a couple of weeks we had a small number of users
using the system with no issues, today we added 7 users and the system
crashed and did not perform correctly since.

Windows XP sees fedora14/samba3 shares but not fedora20/samba4 shares
Marc, et al,
Thanks for your reply. Sorry, I didn't mean to be confusing.
Summary of problem:
1) XP sees samba shares on fedora14/samba3 machine, but not on
fedora20/samba4 machines.
2) all fedora machines see all shares including on XP machine.
3) clicking on f20 machine from XP tries to log in rather than showing
the shares. Login is not successful.
4) all machines can ping each

domU startup freezes at "Starting plymouth"
Hi all,
I''ve got xen-4.1.1 running with linux-3.0.0-rc5 and am trying to start
my first guest, f14-x86_64, which does boot on bare metal.
The configs below show kernel, ramdisk, and disk assignments for the
virtual machine. They also show that the virtual machine uses the
target disk devices. The last section shows part of the boot sequence
starting with the disk assignments,

disk RAIDed as RAID 6. So I get this 18 TB disk (the RAID is recognized as

partitions - let us say I defiine a 150 GB swap, a 150 GB "/", a 100 GB
"/var". So far so good. Then I try to define the next one, say, a

R 2.12.0 in Fedora Updates Testing
R 2.12.0 is built now for Fedora and EPEL. It is in "updates-testing"
(or it will be within the next 24 hours).
I did not do this build for Fedora 12, as that release will be
End-Of-Life in a month.
In accordance with the new policies on Fedora Updates, these new
packages will not be pushed as official updates until they either
receive positive testing from users, or sit in

Windows XP sees fedora14/samba3 shares but not fedora20/samba4 shares
Hello,
A windows XP machine 'X' (the only one left in the LAN) sees all
fedora14/samba3 shares on f14 machine 'A' but cannot see fedora20/samba4
shares on machines 'B' or 'C'.
'X' can ping all of the others by name, and all of the others 'A', 'B'
and 'C' CAN see ALL of the other shares INCLUDING on the XP machine 'X'.

Heads up - symlinked GotoBLAS in F14
Hi,
I installed F14 on release, but was diquieted to note that my symlinked
GotoBLAS (http://cran.r-project.org/doc/manuals/R-admin.html#Shared-BLAS,
foot of paragraph) prevented R (compiled from source, no special configure
options) from loading - everything had been fine on F < 14. It seems that:
cat /selinux/booleans/allow_execstack
is 1 1 on my RHEL systems, but became (?) 0 0 in F14.

How to install binutils-devel on Centos Linux 5.5
Good morning, I am trying to install binutils-devel on Centos Linux 5.5 so that we can obtain lib liberty required by the oprofile-0.9.6 Linux profiler.
Using root , I enter: yum local install binutils-devel-2.20.51.0.7-6.fc14.i686.rpm. Then I get the message: Public key for binutils-devel-2.20.51.0.7-6.fc14.i686.rpm is not installed. Please tell me where I get the Public key for

Can I set up VMs in a "Flat" network?
Our small network is 10.10.11.0/24, gateway 10.10.11.252. dhcp is set up.
I'm using virt-manager to install VM's with kvm-qemu on an F14 host -
10.10.11.100.
qemu-kvm-0.13.0-0.6.rc1.fc14.x86_64
libvirt-0.8.3-2.fc14.x86_64
I'd like all the VM's to be on the same network as the physical
machines with an address range of 10.10.11.110-10.10.11.130.
I have virt-net set up. ifconfig

authconfig-gtk-6.1.9-1.fc14.i686.rpm missing durring URL Install ?
Hello,
This is a rather strange problem. I am using the i386 netinstall CD to boot
and do a URL (HTTP) install since my machine only has CD drive and can't boot
from USB either.
During the install, the installer was looking for package authconfig-
gtk-6.1.9-1.fc14.i686.rpm and claims that it's missing. I checked the RPMs
under packages, and for sure it wasn't there. But look at the
