I think I've read somewhere about panic during early root mount, fsck etc.. Newbie
Hi I started studying Bioinformatics at my engineering school (INSA de lyon!) in september. We started learning statistics and did two classes of R hands-on, but I want to learn to use R better. (As in for my every day calculations - I'm in front of a computer anyway so why should I have to take out my TI-30?) I'm having trouble finding some of the simpler stat functions though.

nullfs changes MFC
Hi, I am going to merge latest batch of the nullfs improvements into stable/9. This will bring up significant performance enchancements due to use of the shared locks for lookups if the lower layer supports it, much better caching on the nullfs layer, and proper handling of the text segments on the nullfs. Also, it should improve the error recovery and some corner cases with locking.

Mounting devfs over to ZFS from fstab fails
Hello, I have some jails running on ZFS, so I have to mount devfs's into them. For this purpose, I have some similar lines in /etc/fstab: devfs /pool/jail/ldap/dev devfs rw 0 0 Where /pool is a ZFS filesystem. This has worked until today -when I upgraded from a previous 7-STABLE (FreeBSD 7.0-STABLE #16: Fri Mar 7 14:30:08 CET 2008) to today's STABLE- but not

I stream read - stale NFS file handle
Hi, I am running dovecot/postfix/amavisd within a jail on freebsd. I have a nullfs mounted within the jail that links back to an NFS server. I am constantly getting these errors and my mail never gets delivered. I am hoping someone has a fix for me! (9.2) panic under disk load (gam_server / knlist_remove_kq)
9.2 PRERELEASE (today) / amd64 Hello, I'm seeing a panic while trying to build a poudriere repository. As far I can see it always happens when gam_server is started (ie xfce is running) and under disk load (poudriere bulk build) : (That is something new, the box was pretty stable) the complete crash dump (core.0.txt) is here: http://user.lamaiziere.net/patrick/panic_gam_server.txt Fatal

panic: ffs_valloc: dup alloc
I get the above panic after nfs clients attach to this nfs server and being read/write ops on it after an unclean shutdown. I've fsck'ed the fs, and it marks it as clean, but I get this every time. It's an NFS share of a GEOM stripe (about 2TB). mode = 0100600, inum = 58456203, fs = /mnt panic: ffs_valloc: dup alloc I do have dumps from two crashes so far. This is

9.2-RC4 amd64 panic: vm_page_unwire
I'm running 9.2-RC4 on a handful of desktop and server machines (both i386 and amd64). I have seen three panics (all vm_page_unwire) on one of those systems only (amd64 server) during the past week. The first two panics were triggered when shutting down the ntpd daemon (a recent development snapshot version of ntpd: 4.2.7p387). Exiting a later release (p388) has not triggered the panic.

kern.maxswzone is gone... what next?
Hi all. I prefer to build all ports in /tmp, which is actually a tmpfs filesystem. I have 8G partition. But when I tried to compile Apache OpenOffice system starts shooting processes when I was near 6G of swap. Feature request: allow chrooted directory writable by others
Hello, I am trying to setup a file server using the SFTP protocol with OpenSSH. I am in trouble because sshd refuses to chroot to a directory that is writable by users other than the owner. I guess that this is to prevent someone else from creating a .ssh/authorized_keys file and impersonate the user. But we have configured an alternative AuthorizedKeysFile. I also understand that a chroot user

stopping amd causes a freeze
Occasionally stopping amd freezes my system. It's a rare occurrence, and I haven't found a reliable way to reproduce it. It's also a real freeze, so there's no way to get into the debugger or grab a core dump. I only can perform the 4 seconds hard shutdown to revive the system. I run amd through sysutils/automounter, which is a scripting solution that generates an amd.map file

Secure shared web hosting using MAC Framework
Hi all, I am looking at securing a web server using the FreeBSD MAC Framework. To make things clear I will call the hosted users "web users". Those are the issues I am dealing with: ** Network Security ** - Web users shouldn't be able to connect to reserved local ports apart from 25(smtp); 80(http); 443(https) and 3306(MySQL) Solution: run the web server and web users shell in

kernel panic caused by zfs/sa.c
Hello, I'm experiencing a kernel panic that appears to be caused by zfs. No errors are making it into /var/log/messages, but here is the error message that appears on my screen after panic (transcribed): panic solaris assert BSWAP_32(sa_hdr_phys->sa_magic) == SA_MAGIC, file: /src/sys/modules/zfs/../../cddl/contrib/opensolaris/uts/common/fs/zfs/sa.c, line 1262 I can reproduce this by

FreeBSD 9.1 MAC Multilabel on nullfs
Hi List! Don't see much discussion about MAC here, time to change that! :-) Currently trying to set up a service jail, according to instructions in the handbook[1]. The problem I'm facing is that nullfs does not seem to support multilabeled filesystems, or am i missing something? ls -lZ /usr/js/testjail/var/run/test -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel biba/equal 0 Feb 6 17:15

system slowdown - vnode related
I woke up to a frozen box this morning - it froze up a few more times before I got a handle on it. Basically, the box runs idle but refuses to do disk IO, or does it -very- slowly. Top shows processes stuck in 'ffsvget', 'inode', and 'vlruwk' state. I can get the box responsive again by setting sysctl kern.maxvnods=100000. It starts up with kern.maxnodes=36079. I
