similar to: kvm-amd on centos 5

Is there a way to use kvm-amd on centos 5.1? I dont want to mess with XEN. I want the hardware virtualization that is on my AMD chip. I played with putting 2.6.24 and centos 5.1 on my AMD laptop, got kvm-amd and that works. However I want to put this on my desktop that is running 2.6.18-53.1.14.el5. Is there a way or do I just wave to use 2.6.24 or 25. Thanks, Jerry

Gents, I can compile mplayer on centos 4.5 AMD 64 in native 64 bit mode and it plays the dvd, and also compile for 32 bit mode "gcc -m32" on it also plays the dvd. "mplayer dvd://1". Is there a special command or anything to get a "make" process take advantage of SMP with the AMD x2. I mean when I type make is it dispatching 2 compiles at a time? How do know it is or how do I tell it to take full advantage of the DUAL processor. Thanks, jerry

I was just wondering if there are special tricks people do that compile A LOT on centos? Do RAM disks help or something else I dont about that minimizes your compile time? I presently have and AMD x2 4800+ with 2GIG ram. Just curious if I can reduce any more time out of my compiles. Jerry

Hi I have a compaq R4000 with the 2.4GIG AMD 64 bit. 4000+ rated. proc cpuinfo reports cpu Mhz as 997.481 Do I have to run the 64 bit version to have things run correctly? I just have the normal 4.2 loaded at this time. The laptop seems slow for 4000+ as reflected by the cpu Mhz also. Any thoughts on running the 32 bit version of 4.2 vs the 64 bit version of 4.2? To continue here with problems on this compaq v2000 laptop, I put kernel source on a USB disk and plugged it into the v2000. NOTHING IS recognized. I tried to manually mount the disk and nothing either... I thought USB was well established.... I thought trying to recompile the kernel for realtek support might get my networking going... Is there a cisco vpn client for linux centso 5 AMD 64 bit? Using google it talks about cisco vpn client but everyplace to download is blocked. I then found a vpnc reference but did not find a 64 bit version. yum install vpnc did nothing.... What is my next step? Jerry

Chris, I have a compaq AMD r4000 x86_64. grabbing the latest kernel and compiling it fixed my clock skew. I have not had any slow disk issues. again the kernel may help doing the command: killall -SIGUSR1 cpuspeed makes the CPU run faster. Hope that helps. I have a dell inspiron 8200 laptop . Install went fine. After booting and using my laptop for a while my mouse pointer just disappears. Any ideas? Any way to restart my mouse pointer? I tried doing CTL-ALT+F1 and ALT_F7 thinking that would reinitialize the mouse but no. Only thing that works is reboot. THanks, Jerry

I have a dell inspiron 8200 laptop running centos 4.1 just fine. I want to connect it to an external 32 inch LCD. This laptop is dual boot windows. I set windows up to 1024x768 and connected the LCD - it worked just fine. LCD max is 1333x768 I then booted Centos 4.1 and set X to be 1024x768 also. rebooted the laptop just ot make sure. I then connected the LCD and it says can't display

I have source for a program that is attempting to open /dev/nvidia0 then on failure open /dev/dri/card0 to get some vsync settings. Neither of those two files is found on my laptop in /dev. Is this because of udev? I cant find anthing in /dev that might be used instead. Any ideas on what to open to read vsync information from X windows? Thanks, Jerry
