pdftools on Ubuntu
Hi Francois,
Thanks for your quick response.
Actually, I had already done that...
sudo apt-get install libpoppler-cpp-dev
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
libpoppler-cpp-dev is already the newest version (0.41.0-0ubuntu1.1).
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 107 not upgraded.
Therefore, I assume I have this installed.

Problem installing libxml2 under Homebrew
i am trying to install xml2 from CRAN, and it is throwing an error
that it cannot find the libxml2 library configuration.
The thing is that pkg-config seems to be set up correctly:
$ echo $PKG_CONFIG_PATH
:/usr/local/opt/libxml2/lib/pkgconfig:/usr/local/opt/libxml2/lib/pkgconfig
$ pkg-config --cflags --libs libxml-2.0

[LLVMdev] [EXPERIMENTAL] Building Dragonegg on Cygwin
Good evening, guys!
I have built dragonegg.dll on cygwin and it works (it seems).
I have not tried stage2 build yet.
It would be applicable to also mingw32-gcc to enhance gcc/plugin.c.

How to install Tidyverse on Ubuntu 17.04? Getting gcc errors for -fstack-protector-strong and -Wdate-time
I'm running Ubuntu 17.04 and R 3.4.1. I installed the latter yesterday, so
I presume it's the latest version. I want to install Tidyverse, which I've
spent many happy hours with under Windows. But when I do
install.packages("tidyverse") , I get errors about unrecognized command
line options to gcc. These start when the install hits the colorspace and
munsell packages.

[PATCH] __likely -> likely conversion
Hi hpa,
the following patch corrects the usage of '__likely', which has been
replaced by 'likely()' in recent kernels.
Plus it adds a missing include 'klibc/compiler.h' for sys/types.h as the
bitops on S/390 insist on using 'likely'.
Please apply.
THX,
Hannes

[LLVMdev] Compiling llvm and Clang on Linux
Thanks for the information.
I am running on a machine on which gcc44 is installed but whose default
installation is 4.1.2.
I ran
../llvm/configure CC=gcc44 CXX=g++44
make
and still got the same error (I checked and CC=gcc44 and CXX=g++44 now in
build/Makefile.config)..
I tried also
../llvm/configure CC=gcc44 CXX=g++44 --include_dir=<gcc44 include dir>
but it didn't help

ask for help on nonlinear fitting
I have a table like the following. I want to fit Cm to Vm like this:
Cm ~ Cl+Q1*b1*38.67*exp(-b1*(Vm-Vp1)*0.03867)/(1+exp(-b1*(Vm-Vp1)*0.03867))^2+Q2*b2*38.67*exp(-b2*(Vm-Vp2)*0.03867)/(1+exp(-b2*(Vm-Vp2)*0.03867))^2
I use nls, with start=list(Q1=2e-3, b1=1, Vp1=-25, Q2=3e-3, b2=1,
Vp2=200). But I always get 'singlular gradient' error like this. But
in SigmaPlot I can get the result. How

[PATCH] Bluetooth support.
This is just the first part -- it adds support for correctly reporting
incoming connections when there's an external d?mon accepting the
connections and invoking 'sshd -i' with them, like inetd does.
In later patches I'll extend sshd to listen on a Bluetooth socket (and
advertise the service in SDP) for itself, and extend the ssh client to
make the connection directly. For now,

[PATCH] --links-depth for rsync
Hello,
about a year ago I ran into situation where there's a "metadirectory"
containing directories and symlinks to files. There was a need to mirror
the contents of files and directories gathered via symlinks to this
metadirectory, regular mirroring of the tree wouldn't do any good.
The attached patch gives the user ability to define how many symbolic
links rsync should follow

why results from regression tree (rpart) are totally inconsistent with ordinary regression
Hi,
In my analysis of impacts of insecticide-treated bednets on malaria, I
look at the relationship between malaria incidence and mosquito
behaviors. The condensed data set is copied here. Ordinary regression
(lm) shows that Incidence was negatively related to Mortality. This
makes sense because the latter reflected the strength of killing
mosquitoes by insecticide-treated nets. Since the

Wald test and frailty models in coxph
Dear R members,
I am new in using frailty models in survival analyses and am getting
some contrasting results when I compare the Wald and likelihood ratio
tests provided by the r output.
I am testing the survivorship of different sunflower interspecific
crosses using cytoplasm (Cyt), Pollen and the interaction Cyt*Pollen
as fixed effects, and sub-block as a random effect. I stratified

Document the removal of the ACL compatibility mode
Wayne,
I noticed that you quietly removed the compatibility mode for sending
ACLs to rsyncs before 2.6.8 in revision 1.169 of acls.diff. It would
be good to document this in the man page. A metapatch to acls.diff
that revises the documentation in rsync.yo is attached; I didn't
regenerate rsync.1 because I don't have yodl 2 set up. Where did you
get the version of yodl 2 that you are
