[patch] add=TRUE in plot.default()
Hi all, As long as I've used R, add=TRUE hasn't worked in contexts like this: f <- function(x) x^2 X <- seq(0, 1, by=1/4) plot(f, col="blue") plot(X, f(X), col="red", type="l", add=TRUE) I attached a fix for version 2.6.2. plot(x) in 2.7.0 (with y=NULL) proposed code correction
Hi all: following the previous discussion, it looks like plot(x) with y=NULL still does not work correctly. If one tries for example plot(1:5) it works, but already for plot(runif(100)) it does not. I posted the proposed correction for plot.POSIXct and plot.POSIXlt before. Please voice your opinions whether the following fix for plot.default could be reasonable? I include the full function and

Coloring leaves, twigs and labels in plot.dendrogram()
Core developers, I couldn't find any simple way to send a vector of colors to apply to each terminal in plot.dendrogram() or plot.hclust()---I asked R-help about it a few weeks ago and didn't get any response---so I hacked that functionality into the plot.dendrgram code (see below for hacked function plus examples).... Is there any chance this functionality could be added to the

legend() patch never seems to have made it in
Perhaps I should have submitted this as a bug so that it would be officially tracked. It's not a big deal, but here it is again (I can't remember which version this patch is against, but I don't think legend() has changed since then ...) Basically, the problem is that if you want to have "opaque" points that overlay lines (rather than using type="b" and having

legend -- one more try
Dermot MacSweeney pointed out to me that after my "fix" of legend(), points were no longer coming out placed in the middle of the lines, but at the right-hand edge. It turns out that naively swapping the order of point-drawing and line-drawing also messes up the bookkeeping that legend() does on the current x-location. Here's my patch, which fixes that bookkeeping (and incidentally

Secondary y axis
Hi I had a look at the help and previous discussions but I am still unable to solve these issues: 1 I have a set of air pressure data. I would like to plot a and b (both about 980-1000 millibar) and c, the difference (around 0-8 millibar). I use axis (4) to create a new axis (to the right) but I do not know how to assign c to the new axis which currently features the same values as the first

R-alpha: more on line types

Different symbols for select points
Dear R users,  I hope you can help me as you have done before.  I was wondering if I can make some of the points on my graph a different colour and symbol? Some of my soil samples are enriched and I wanted them to be shown with a red triangle and the samples which are not enriched I wanted to show with a blue square. I can't seem to find a way of doing this if there is a way?  My script:

Automatically placing a legend in an area with the most white space...
At one point I believe I heard of an R package that would automatically find the most empty space in a plot, and then that answer could then be used to intelligently place a legend. I would like to try to apply that R package to the contrived example shown below, so thank you for any hints or tips that can be provided. x = seq(0, 1000, by = 1) y1_vals<-rnorm(1000, mean = 0, sd = 50)

X11 and linux and plotting and the vertical axis
I use R on linux and I go through exceed from a windows machine. Depending on the amount of plots I do on a screen, sometimes the numbers on the vertical axis of the plots don't show up. I tried infinite of combinations of mar and cex but nothing helps. Yet, if instead of shooting the graphic upto the screen, I send it to a pdf file or a postscript file, the numbers on the vertical axis of

legend with multiple columns
I have made a minor hack to "legend" (in R 1.0.0, but I didn't notice any changes to legend in the 1.0.1 NEWS) to allow the legend to be formatted in multiple columns, or horizontally (number of columns <- number of legend items). (I find this helpful when I have lots of legend items and not a lot of vertical space to squeeze the legend into.) (Another hack I've considered

Bar graph with 2 Y axis
Dear R users,   I need to draw a barplot with 2 Y axis. I have 3 days each of wich having 2 groups (and error bar for each of them). The height of the 3rd day is too tall compared to others. That's why I have to use a second Y axis for that. I am using  "barplot2" function of "gplots" library (to be able to add error bars as well). Data and  codes currently I am using is

I managed to do it with the following code but not know how to make a function of these so that next time if I want to do similar graph but with new variables, I dont have to copy the code and then change the old variables with the new ones but just call a function with the new

I am drawing two plots on the same graphics device window as follows: yLim<-range(range(template),range(slope*subSeries) ) plot( template, type="p", pch=19,cex=1.75,lwd=2.5,lty=1, ann=F, axes=F,frame.plot=T,col="red", ylim=yLim,new=T ) title( main = "myDotChart of original template and subSeries vs time" );points( slope*subSeries, type="p",

North Arrow (.png file) on a Map
Hi list. I would like to know how do I insert a North arrow, stored as a png file in my computer, in a map? I found lots of post asking similar things, one of them mentioned the pixmap package. The map was done using map() and shapefiles (the code is below). I’m using the pixmap () and addlogo() functions. Well I can import the png with pixmap() function (I guess, once there’s no error message),
