Impact of cex changing as a function of mfrow

Colleagues,
I am aware that changes in mfrow / mfcol in par() affect cex (from help: In a layout with exactly two rows and columns the base value of ?"cex"? is reduced by a factor of 0.83: if there are three or more of either rows or columns, the reduction factor is 0.66).

par(mfcol=2, mfrow=3) equivalent for trellis
Dear friends of lattice,
I know how to position trellis plots with print(...,split,more=T) or
(...position).
Sometimes I wish I had something like the old "par(mfcol=2, mfrow=3)"
mechanism, where the next free viewport is automatically chosen. I tried
fiddling with grid-viewports, but could not find an easy solution.
Did I miss something?

Help with the plot function
I'm trying to recreate a graph similar to the last one found on this link:

The difference is that I want budbreak on the top, and the temperatures at
the bottom.
I tried to set par before each graph and include lines, with no avail.

Make my plots bigger and reduce white space around panels?
Hi,
I have made a plot with panels (attached) using R code (below) and I'd like
to increase the size of each panel and decrease the white space, especially
the white space between:
1. rows of panels
2. the top panel and its title (which contains info on r2 and N)
3. each panel and its x label.
I've dug around in the plot help files but can't seem to find how to do
this.

xyplot 3 panels 3 different Y variables
Often, when exploring a dataset, I'd like to plot several very different Y variables against the same X variable, in panels stacked one over the other. Is there an easy way to do this?

Hmisc::pstamp, mfcol, and spacing
I am trying to make a nice 2x1 plot and add a timestamp with comment.
The pstamp function from Hmisc works nicely when mfcol=c(1,1),
but when mfcol=c(2,1), the stamp winds up in the wrong place:

Dear R-users:
I asked a question on how I can have a universal legend in a plot and

self-split plot on multiple device
Hello!
I would plot more than 10 (this number is always different)
graphics on a figure with layout like 'mfrow=c(4,2)'.
There is some existing function able to open the right number of
device if number of graphics is done or I have to build it myself
with some 'IF.....ELSE.....'?

depending exactly on what you want to do and how you want to do it.
Essentially, these all allow you to make separate plots at different
regions of the device.

multiple plots using summary in rms package
Dear All,
I wonder if someone can point me in the right direction here. I'm working
with the rms library, R 2.9.2 under Windows XP.
I'm trying to arrange two plots side by side for a colleague. mfrow or
mfcol do not seem to work, however, so I am obviously missing something
important. I know that there have been changes in the graphics from Design

enlarged plot. I tried the multiple graphic device(using mfcol=c(3,3) and

problems with plots in loop (corrected Email)
Dear helpers,
In an attempt to use a loop to generate graphs in a for loop in run into
a problem. The plan is to fill each page with eight graphs (mfrow =
c(4,2)) in to two columns. Only the buttom graphs ( meaning every fourth
graph) have tick labels on the x axis to preserve space. I used an if
.... Else statement to achieve that.
The problem is that the first eight graphs are skipped

mfrow is ignored by some plots
Hi all,
I was just informed that the plots in the radial.plot family in the
plotrix package do not plot correctly when using mfrow or mfcol to
subdivide the plot window. I found one related message, an answer from
Deepayan Sarkar to a question about lattice graphics, but that shed no
light on this problem.
If I invoke par(mfrow=c(2,2)) and run radial.plot a few times, the plots

mtext text size (cex) doesn't match plot
Hi,
I am using mtext instead of the ylab argument in some plots because i
want to move it away from the numbers in the axis. However, the text

Question about putting multiple plots on the same page
Hi,
I met a problem when trying to put multiple plots on the same page. I have a
plotting function (e.g., myfunction()) that contains the lines of par(),
layout(). Now I want to try four types of parameter combinations and put
these four figures on the same page. I tried par(mfrow or mfcol) and layout
but no go. It seems split.screen is the right choice for me. But I always
got the error message
