merging unbalanced rows
Hi Everyone,
I am merging two data frames that have different number of rows. But I end
up having rows a lot more than both rows combined. I tried the following
but the duplicate bit does not change anything. Can anyone suggest to me
how I can handle this?

problem with project command in rgdal
Hi
I'm trying to analyse some data and need to set the geographic coordinate
system before I can do the analysis. I've been trying to use the project
command in rgdal but keep getting an error message saying:

plotting x y z data from an irregular grid
Hi,
I'm trying to plot some data (z) that is linked to lat&long coordinates
(x&y). These coordinates are not however on a regular grid. I also have some
shapefiles on which I would like to overlay the data. I can plot the
shapefiles (country/city outlines) and overplot the data, but only using
quilt.plot because I otherwise always get the error message that

How to produce rainfall maps
Thank you Sarah and Mike for your explanations.
My final objective is to produce maps (png image or any kind of extension I can import in LaTeX) where rainfall data are interpolated, using the Inverse Distance method or Kriging.
My input file (pointfile.csv in the reported example) reports the station code, lat and long of the meteorological station and the rainfall value (which might be the

[lattice] display a projected map on a layerplot
summary: I can display a lon-lat map on a lattice::layerplot, and I
can display a Lambert conformal conic (LCC) map on a spam::image, but
I can't display an LCC map on a lattice::layerplot. Example follows.
What am I doing wrong?

I've been using `lattice` (via `rasterVis`) successfully to display
global atmospheric data, which works well enough (though I am

How to produce rainfall maps
Fwiw the engine behind geom_raster needs explicit observation-per-row form
for input (with no structural normalization), so conversion to points is
perfectly proper here, albeit confusing in context. (It's closer to what
graphics devices actually use ultimately, but the expansion is laid out
very early in ggplot2 because there's no standard for intermediate forms.)

I'm sure that this is a very simple problem, but I have been wresting with

Fair enough. I scan it into R and get the following:

plotting with varying dot sizes
Dear all,
I am trying to plot on a spatial map the punctual measurements of the data
located in the file (https://opengeo.metu.edu.tr/test.csv). I'd like to have
the dots in some way proportional to the magnitudes of the measurements.
I have difficulties with the code given below: The dot sizes do not vary not

Using GIS data in R
I have a simple problem: I need to load a ERSI shapefile of US states
and check whether or not a set of points are within the boundary of
these states. I have the shapefile, I have the coordinates but I'm
having a great deal of difficulty bringing the two together. The
problem is the various GIS packages for R do not play well with each

Cokriging

I run following code to estimate the blocks using cokriging ( my data set has more than 50,000 data points). All the things run finely but Once I run the predict.gstat function it gave the error message - "memory.c", line 58: can't allocate memory in function m_get(). rgdal package load problem
I am having trouble getting the rgal package to work on Mac OS X. I suspect
it has something to do with the link between the rgal package and the
associated programs GDAL and PROJ4. Here is the message I get when I
attempt to load rgal

Re ading and Creating Shape Files
Hello R Community,
I have imported a dataset which contain X Y coordinates and would like to
recreate a shape file after some data analysis. What i have done is to
import some taxlot data and join them based on some criteria. I want to
check to see how well the joining went by reviewing the results in GIS.
A couple things. I cant seem to import a shape file correctly using the

spTransform longlat to utm
Dear all,
I am trying to project my LongLat-maps to a plane.
The ultimate purpose is to do a search of points in vicinity of other points using overlay-commands (sp) with radius in km.
I am applying spTransform (package rgdal) and it gives my some curious results.
