Programming Problem (for loop, random # control, 3 dimentional graph)
Dear List,
This is just a programming problem which i cannot seem
to figure out. I am trying to get a set of power from
a test (say, kolmogorov smirnov) out of a distribution
(say, G-K distribution) as follows. I am trying to
reduce to pain of writing the whole set of data points
(p# below) using "for" loop. However, I seem to have
some problem in it as the output "M" does not

Proportion test in three-chices experiment
Hi,
I wish to analyze with R the results of a perception experiment in which
subjects had to recognize each stimulus among three choices (this was a
forced-choice design). The experiment runs under two different
conditions and the data is like the following:
N1 : count of trials in condition 1
p11, p12, p13: proportions of choices 1, 2, and 3 in condition 1
N2 : count of trials in

How to get solution of following polynomial?
Hi, I want find all roots for the following polynomial :
a <- c(-0.07, 0.17); b <- c(1, -4); cc <- matrix(c(0.24, 0.00, -0.08,
-0.31), 2); d <- matrix(c(0, 0, -0.13, -0.37), 2); e <- matrix(c(0.2, 0,
-0.06, -0.34), 2)
A1 <- diag(2) + a %*% t(b) + cc; A2 <- -cc + d; A3 <- -d + e; A4 <- -e

Problem with sample()
Hi,
I'm having a problem using sample() within a function.
Basically I get an error reading:
Error in sample(v, 1, prob = h) : non-positive probability
Can anyone advise me as to the possible origin of this error?
Here is my code

data management
Dear Rxperts,
I have a varaibles data file that looks like this
p(1) 10
p(1) 3
p(1) 4
p(2) 20
p(2) 30
p(2) 40
p(3) 4
p(3) 1
p(1) 2
I cannot process these data with R because it does not like the parentheses.
How can I get these to look like:
p1 10
p1 3
p1 4
p2 20
p2 30
p2 40
p3 4
p3 1
p3 2
The data is in a tab delimited text file and I want to get it into a
data.frame().
Many thanks in

a prolem with constrOptim
Hi,
I apologize for the long message but the problem I encountered can't be stated in a few lines.
I am having some problems with the function constrOptim. My goal is to maximize the likelihood of product of K multinomials, each with four catagories under linear constraints on the parameter values. I have found that the function does not work for many data configurations.

suggested modification to the 'mle' documentation?
Hello:
I wish to again express my appreciation to all who have
contributed to making R what it is today.
At this moment, I'm particularly grateful for whoever modified the
'mle' code so data no longer need be passed via global variables. I
remember struggling with this a couple of years ago, and I only today
discovered that it is no longer the case.

lme4/anova, error message: "Calculated PWRSS for a LMM is negative"
Dear all,
I'm using the latest version of the package lme4 and R version 2.7.2
(2008-08-25).
After I run the model, I get the results of the model (cf. below). Then, I
run an ANOVA using the "anova" function and I get the following message
"Error in anova(lmer1) : Calculated PWRSS for a LMM is negative".
I went trough the R-mailing list and a similar error message was

dovecot + centos 7 + internal ca + hostname change
Not sure if this is dovecot or not but can find very little ie no info
around on this ... and added the pem file into
/etc/pki/ca-trust/source/anchors and run udpate-ca-trust .. all works ok
.. (this is on centos 7 btw)
So wanted to change the hostname away from ip-x-x-x-x to something a
little bit more descriptive .. but then kaboom .. doesnt work any more
and the following errors are seen.

Help with installing add-on packages
Dear R users.
Recently I wanted to update my R distribution to the current one (R-2.7.1). I am running a Fedora core 8 distirbution. The installation went fine, but when I tried to add some additional packages the majority made an exit with an error. Only a few least demanding (e.g. RColorBrewer) managed to get through the installation process.
What happened between the versions 2.6.x and 2.7.x

R - need more memory, or rejection sampling algorithm doesn't work?
Hi all,
I am trying to run rejection sampling for the quantity z11 in the function
below. Unfortunately I can't simplify the function further so that z11 only
appears once.
Whenever I run the algorithm, R looks as if it is running it (no error
messages or anything), but then nothing happens for minutes...how long
should it take to run something like this in R? I have tried in in both

Problem installing packages in newer versions of R
Dear all,
I was wandering what could be wrong with my system (regularly updated Fedora core 8) so that installing packages does not succeed with almost every package. I follow the procedure specified in the help file R-admin section 6.3. This is not a feature new to the current version but happened (to me) in the previous version as well. Additionally R-help html pages try to follow wrong links
