enableJIT() and internal R completions (was: [ESS-bugs] ess-mode 12.03; ess hangs emacs)
Hello,
JIT compiler interferes with internal R completions:
compiler::enableJIT(2)
utils:::functionArgs("density", '')
gives:
utils:::functionArgs("density", '')

[ESS] completion in [] (R internal completion fails)
Hello,
I am forwarding this from ESS mailing list, as it's a failure of
internal R completion system:
This fails:
utils:::.assignLinebuffer('iris[iris$Spec')
utils:::.assignEnd(15)
utils:::.guessTokenFromLine()
utils:::.completeToken()
utils:::.retrieveCompletions() ## -> [1] "iris[iris$Spec"
This works
utils:::.assignLinebuffer('iris[ iris$Spec') # note the

Bug in "transform"?
Dear useRs,
Here is a weird behavior of transform function:
mtcars1<-matcars
transform(mtcars1,t1=3,t2=4)
Error in data.frame(`_data`, e[!matched]) :
arguments imply differing number of rows: 32, 1
instead, this works:
mtcars1$t1<-0
transform(mtcars1,t1=3,t2=4)
also works if applied in turn:
transform(mtcars1,t1=3)
transform(mtcars1,t2=4)
I often need to use this

Splitting device for ggplots?
Dear UseRs,
For various reasons I need to plot multiple ggplots on one device
(preferably pdf). Is there a way to achieve that?
par(mfrow), split.screen() and layout() seem not to do the job.
Thanks,
Vitalie.

Avoid entering {} evaluation in debugger
Hi,
f1 <- function(){
browser()
print("aaa")
}
f2 <- function(){
a <- 12
eval(envir = parent.frame(),
bquote({
b <- .(a)
}))
}
Now do,
f1()
and enter n RET and then {1+2}:
Browse[2]> {1 + 2}
debug at #1: 1 + 2
Browse[3]>
{} is now being debugged. This was never bothering me

enableJIT(2) causes major slow-up in rpart
Hello,
Due to exploration of the JIT capabilities offered through the {compiler}
package, I came by the fact that using enableJIT(2) can *slow* the rpart
function (from the {rpart} package) by a magnitude of about 10 times.
Here is an example code to run:
library(rpart)
require(compiler)
enableJIT(0) # just making sure that JIT is off # We could also use
enableJIT(1) and it would be fine

Build fails with sysdata.rda in R dir
Hi,
I am getting a strange error with 15.0 which I've not seen with previous
versions of R.
If sysdata.rda is included in R directory of the package I am getting:
R CMD build betfairly.roxygen/

* preparing ?betfairly?:
* checking DESCRIPTION meta-information ... OK

enableJIT in Rprofile leads to 'not a proper evaluation environment' on startup
A commenter on SO suggested that I copy my question to R-devel
http://stackoverflow.com/q/31972325/850781
I have had
--8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8---
library(compiler)
compiler::enableJIT(3)
--8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8---
in ~/.Rprofile for years; now that I upgraded to 3.2.1 I get this on startup:

enableJIT(3) with Primitives
I'm not sure if this is a bug or expected behavior, but I don't see
anything in the documentation that explains it, so I thought I'd
mention it:

enableJIT(3)

"$<-" fails (invalid subscript type 'language')
This might be just beyond of my understanding of how assignment works in R, but
the documentation does not say anything about:
> tv <- c(a="dsf", b="sss")
> tl <- list(232)
> `$<-`(tl, tv[[1]], "sdfdsfdsfsd")
Error: invalid subscript type 'language'
This happens even before the method is dispatched. I can not handle the

quantmod getOptionChain Not Work
Dear R Helpers,
I am still having trouble with the getOptionChain command in quantmod. I
have the latest version of quantmod, etc. so I was under the impression
that the problem was solved with updates to the package.
If someone could let me know what I need to install in order to make this
work, I would really appreciate it.
My error message as session info are shown below. Thanks a bunch.

Possible with enableJIT function
In this email to the R-help list: https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2017-June/447474.html
and in this question on Stackoverflow: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/44486643/nleqslv-memory-use-in-r
Andrew Leach has raised a question about the memory usage of my package nleqslv.
In a model with a loop within a function he has experienced continuously increasing memory usage

NULL assignment will change the expression's class into list
Hello Everyone!
NULL replacement will change expression object into list:

expression(a = blabla, b = 33 - 2)

lubridate:ymd_hm and coercion of class POSIXct. Smooth way to restore the date format.
Dear all,
I wish to create a POSIXct variable from date and time variables using the ymd_hm function in package lubridate. In some cases data for time is missing, which causes a problem for ymd_hm. I wish to find a smooth way to handle this.
# Some example data:
x <- data.frame(date = c("2011-09-22", "2011-07-28"), time = c("15:00", NA))
x

round giving different results on Windows and Mac
Dear all,
I have been running some tests of my package RSiena on different
platforms and trying to reconcile the results.
With Mac, the commands
options(digits=4)
round(1.81652, digits=4)
print 1.817
With Windows, the same commands print 1.816
I am not bothered which answer I get, but it would be nice if they were
the same. A linux box agreed with the Mac.
