problem installing MCMCpack
I'm completely new to R and am trying to install an add-on package for one of our faculty members. I've had no problems with most of them, but am completely stuck trying to figure out why MCMCpack won't install.. any help is VERY much appreciated!!! here's what I get when I try to install the package: * Installing *source* package 'MCMCpack' ... checking for C++ compiler

getNativeSymbolInfo("user_unif_rand") returns different results on windows and linux
Hi, When loading a package that provides the user-supplied RNG hook user_unif_rand, calling getNativeSymbolInfo("user_unif_rand") returns informations about the loaded symbol. I am using this to identify which package currently provides the RNG hook. The results are the same on windows and linux if only one library provides the hook. If one loads a second package that provides this

How to construct a valid seed for l'Ecuyer's method with given .Random.seed?
Dear expeRts, I struggle with the following problem using snow clusters for parallel computing: I would like to specify l'Ecuyer's random number generator. Base R creates a .Random.seed of length 7, the first value indicating the kind fo random number generator. I would thus like to use the components 2 to 7 as the seed for l'Ecuyer's random number generator. By doing so, I

aligned memory allocation in C
Hi, I'm currently R porting SF Mersenne Twister algorithm of Matsumoto and Saito. To get the full power of their code, I want to use their fonction fill_array32 which need aligned memory. That is to say I need to use the C function memalign on windows, posix_memalign on linux and classic malloc on Mac OS. In 'writing R extenstion', they recommand to use R_alloc function to

R hangs when connected via VPN [incl. minimal example]
Dear expeRts, This is a similar post as on R-SIG-MAC [I didn't receive an answer there; not sure if it was the right place to post either]. I'm running R version 2.12.1 (Platform: x86_64-apple-darwin9.8.0/x86_64 (64-bit)) on a MacBook Pro under Mac OS X 10.6.6. The following minimal example runs fine under this setup. However, if I am connected to a server via a VPN client [Cisco

Problem with ldpaths in Ubuntu 13.04
Hello! I'm trying to install R-3.0.1 on an Ubuntu machine (64 bit, version 13.04). I have uninstalled and installed several times, but to no avail. I keep getting errors about missing ldpaths, and installing packages does not work at all. Here is the information: erin@erin-Lenovo-IdeaPad-Y480:~$ sudo apt-get install r-base Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading

R-users, I can't tell what's causing the following error. The vignette does not make a reference to a "packages" option or parameter. > library(MonteCarlo) Loading required package: abind Loading required package: codetools Loading required package: rlecuyer Loading required package: snow Loading required package: snowfall > infest_kud_fun<-function(x,A,B){ +??

New version: dclone 1.7-1 and dcmle 0.1-4 rolled out
Dear R Community, I am happy to introduce the next release of the *dclone* package (see R Journal, 2(2): 29-37, 2010) which now includes a suite of functions for parallel computations: - see functions parJagsModel, parUpdate, parCodaSamples using 'snow' type clusters; and the - jags.parfit function that can be used with 'snow' type clusters or multiple cores. - iterative model

Random seed problem in MCMC coupling of chains
Hello! I am performing coupling of chains in MCMC and I need the same value of seed for two chains. I will show demo of what I want: R code, which might show my example is: niter <- 3 nchain <- 2 tmpSeed <- 123 for (i in 1:niter) { # iterations for (j in 1:nchain) { # chains set.seed(tmpSeed) a <- runif(1) cat("iter:", i, "chain:", j,

package MonteCarlo error: object 'packages' not found
This looks like the sort of thing that you should ask the package maintainer (?maintainer). Interface for package supplied random number generator
Hi, As you probably know, there is a problem with the interface for adding uniform random number generators in R (see by article in R News 5/2, November 2005). There exists a mechanism called "user-supplied" that allows users of R to run their own generator in R. However, there is no such mechanism for package writers. Those who want to add their own generators abuse

[PATCH nbdkit] common: Improve pseudo-random number generation.
Currently we use non-cryptographically secure random numbers in two places, the error filter (to inject errors at random) and the random plugin. For this we have used either random_r or a home-brew-ish Linear Congruential Generator. Use of random_r is problematic on BSDs because it doesn't exist there. Use of the LCG is simply a bad choice. Replace both uses with a better quality and

parallel bootstrap linear model on multicore mac
People of R(th), I have been ramming my head against this problem, and I wondered if anyone could lend a hand. I want to parallelize a bootstrap of a linear model on my 8-core mac. Below is the process that I want to parallelize (namely, the m2.ph.rlm.boot<-boot(m2.ph,m2.ph.fun, R = nboot) command). This is an extension of the bootstrapping linear models example in Venables and Ripley to

140 packages in R Commander!!
Dear List I just downloaded and installed R 2.12.0 and then installed R Commander . First it got RCmdr and Car, and then suggested for other packages for utilizing the full functionality- I clicked yes! I got 140 packages installed!!! Cran Mirror was UCLA... Here is the list. Is this intentional- I can see some packages like snow and multicore which are desirable but quite optional.(see list
