Cent OS 6 freezing up
I've been out of pocket for a while, so don't shoot me, if this has already been brought up. I'm having a problem with my desktop freezing up, and I'm running Cent OS 6. It seems to happen while I'm running firefox. I'm not sure if it's firefox, or the OS that's locking up. When it freezes up, nothing will respond, so I'm inclined to think it's the OS

OT Problem seeing slave drives.
This isn't specifically about cent os, but I am running cent os on this machine. I've got a Dell Dimension 2400 desktop pc. I've tried on a number of occasions to put a second hard drive in the machine, but I can't get the machine to recognize the second drive in BIOS. I'm going to try and keep this short and sweet. I've tried all that I know to try. I've set the

Installing Cent OS from a usb flash drive
I recently acquired a Fujitsu Lifebook 1610. Unfortunately, the machine was missing a lot of the stuff that would've come with it brand new, mainly the usb cdrom drive. Currently, I'm running Fedora on it, and I installed it using a usb flash drive with the help of a program called unetbootin(Probably not spelled right). to load the ISO onto the USB drive. I've successfully used

OT: question on setting up an email server
Hi guys, I realize that this might be considered to be off topic, but the machine I want to use is running Cent OS. Ok, this is what I'm thinking about trying, and mainly just to see if I can do it. I've got a total of 3 linux machines here, and I was thinking about setting one of them up as an email server. Now, I'm not talking about setting the machine up so that all I

Question on failing hard drives
In my Cent OS machine, I have 3 hard drives, an 80, and two 200gig hard drives. One of the drives is obviously starting to fail, but I'm not sure which one. Is there a command line command in Linux that will check the drive integrity on all the hard drives and tell me which one is going bad? Thanks Jim

cpu type
I have a quick question. The board and CPU that I'm using in one of my machines was given to me. I didn't take the time to look up the info on the board or anything. I was busy, so I just put the board in a pc case, hooked everything up, and loaded the os on the machine. I didn't know it at the time, but there's a chance it may be a 64bit board and cpu. I don't

HD Failures
I'm just curious if any one else has noticed this. I've bought hard drives from both Walmart and Best Buy. If I can wait, I order them from newegg.com. I'm beginning to think that the staff at both Walmart and Best Buy, somewhere along the supply line must dribble the drives like basket balls. The reason I say that is all the drives I have bought from those two places fail within a few

OT, but just a quick question.
I know this is off topic, so please accept my apologies. This is just out of curiosity, and a number of people I've talked to in the area I live in have said the same thing. About 2 weeks ago, my one remaining xp machine downloaded and installed an update from Microsoft. Ever since then, the machine has run slower than a dead person. I was just wondering if anyone here on the list who still

problem with firefox
Just out of curiosity, has anyone noticed a problem that has developed with firefox? This started on both of my machines after the newest updates. I'll be at a website, even the mozilla website, and when I click on a link to go to another part of the site or to download a file, Firefox will just simply close. It's random for the most part, but it happened quite often at the sourceforge.net

wireless question
I've had no luck with getting a wireless card to work. Before I go buy another card, I wanted to see if there is a way I could do this instead. I've got a second wireless router that I'm not using right now. So I would like to find out if there is a way I can make this work. I was thinking about connecting the second wireless router to my pc through the ethernet port, and let the

This is an article I came across on zdnet.com. You may or may not agree with it. Personally, I don't. Anyway, here's the link to it. I thought some of you might want to read it, and form your own opinion. http://blogs.zdnet.com/Murphy/?p=769 Thanks for the help on the wireless problem. Jim

using signed certificates for TLS/SSL
Hi, I have, in one customer, a web server running on a Verisign-signed certificate SSL certificate. Everything works fine, IE and Firefox connects on https without asking anything, which usually happens on self-signed certificates. I'm trying to use that certificate on dovecot, but clients (Thunderbird basically) keeps saying the certificate is not valid. yes i'm using,

Roaming Desktops with Linux Clients
Hi, I have Samba setup on a Debian server and have implemented roaming desktops for the windows clients. In this network, there are also LINUX clients that i would like to use roaming desktops and the users be able to access their home directory on the server when they login to one of these linux clients. Is this possible using Samba? And can anyone point me to a website/tutorial or any

Question on failing hard drive part 2
OK, I've figured out which drive is bad. Before I go any further let me give a brief HD configuration explanation. The primary IDE has a 80gig(Master) HD, and an internal zip drive(Slave) connected to it. The two 200gig Hard Drives are connect to a PCI ATA controller card(Not a promise card), one is master, the other one is slave. It is the slave 200gig drive that is going bad. Now, I

Verisign Payflow Scripts
Here''s a link to the Verisign scripts we used... We customized ours a bit but this will get you going. Graciously provided by Jon at Slantwise Design and posted with permission (http://www.slantwisedesign.com), these may make it into some other format someday (gem? Plug in?). Anyway, of course, no warranty with this code, use at your own risk and really no support - you''ll have

Adding payment to an app: how hard and risky is it?
Hi all. I have never implemented online payment and it''s the only thing that keeps me from accepting a project for a UK based client. (I must reply quickly!) While I can afford spending an extra week - or 2 - to learn/try/tune the payment system, I must be sure to succeed before I accept the contract. If you''ve already been through that path, any hints, links and/or
