Lustre 1.8 client on EL 6.5?
Hello, in preparation for CentOS 6.5 I was trying to build Lustre 1.8 client on CentOS 6.4 updated with 2.6.32-431 kernel. Seems like recent changes in fs.h (/usr/src/kernels/2.6.32-431.el6.x86_64/include/linux/fs.h) is causing problems. make[5]: Entering directory `/usr/src/kernels/2.6.32-431.el6.x86_64'' cc1: warnings being treated as errors

SLES 11 SP1 Client rpms built but not working
Hi all, I used the method described below to build client rpms with the source kit lustre-1.8.5.tar.gz. There was only one error reported during the make rpms, relating to lustre-iolit-1.2-root, but the rpms were built under /usr/src/packages/RPMS/x86_64. The rpms lustre-modules, lustre and lustre-tests were then installed smoothly without any complaints. But the subsequent "modprobe

build and install lustre from source code -- warning on livcfs.ko for no modversions
I built and installed Lustre from source. When I installed built luster-modules- RPM, I got libcfs.ko from the kernel-2.6.18-prep has no modversions (the message is posted below), so it cannot be reused for kernel. Is there any procedure I need to do during the build? There is include/config/modversion.h under patched kernel, but the file does not have any contens and its size is 0. Thanks for

bad 1.6.3 striped write performance
Hi, I''m seeing what can only be described as dismal striped write performance from lustre 1.6.3 clients :-/ 1.6.2 and 1.6.1 clients are fine. 1.6.4rc3 clients (from cvs a couple of days ago) are also terrible. the below shows that the OS (centos4.5/5) or fabric (gigE/IB) or lustre version on the servers doesn''t matter - the problem is with the 1.6.3 and 1.6.4rc3 client kernels

Lustre and cross-platform portability
Whamcloud and EMC are jointly investigating how to be able to contribute the Lustre client code into the upstream Linux kernel. As a prerequisite to this, EMC is working to clean up the Lustre client code to better match the kernel coding style, and one of the anticipated major obstacles to upstream kernel submission is the heavy use of code abstraction via libcfs for portability to other

chmod and chown
Hello guys, does anyone of you have problems with chown and chmod operations taking extremely long time to complete. For example chown on 200 MB folder is taking minutes. The MDS is not loaded at all. All other operations (file read and write) seem to be doing fine. Any help is greatly appreciated. _______________________________________________ Lustre-discuss mailing list

Luster clients getting evicted
on our cluster that has been running lustre for about 1 month. I have 1 MDT/MGS and 1 OSS with 2 OST''s. Our cluster uses all Gige and has about 608 nodes 1854 cores. We have allot of jobs that die, and/or go into high IO wait, strace shows processes stuck in fstat(). The big problem is (i think) I would like some feedback on it that of these 608 nodes 209 of them have in dmesg

[PATCH v2 00/12] gendisk: Generate uevent after attribute available
The race condition is noticed between disk_add() and disk attributes, on virtio-blk hotplug. Userspace listens to the KOBJ_ADD uevent generated in add_disk(). At that point we haven't created the serial attribute file, therefore depending on how fast udev reacts, the /dev/disk/by-id/ entry doesn't always get created. As pointed out by Christoph Hellwig in the specific fix [1], virtio-blk
