feature request: "remote user is root, make remote owner is foo"
I often push files from my user account over SSH to my web server, and want them owned by www-user, which may not have a login shell, should never accept remote logins, and who may not have a ~/.ssh directory (and if it did, it would be under the wwwroot, ack!). Currently I push as root and then do a chmod, but isn't there a better way? While I'm doing this, the files are temporarily

file "time-to-live"
Hi everyone, There is a way to make files being automatically deleted some time after they have been created? I know that, with some scripting wizardry i could achieve this, but i wanna know if samba has this kind of feature. I have a temp folder that users insist in use like a backup folder, so i want to files to be deleted 24 hours after they have been created. I cannot just delete

does WINE run on MAC OS and OpenVMS
Hi all, I have two queries regarding WINE. 1) Is there support for VMS(OpenVMS) and MAC OS in WINE. I mean that can I install/build WINE over OpenVMS OS and MAC OS. 2) I have heard that WINE doesnot have support for WIN64 bit API's. Is this true that I cannot port WIN64 applications via WINE on Linux 64 bit. If this is possible for anyone among you then plz list the name of all the OS where

Porting LLVM to OpenVMS
Dear community, My company is interested in porting LLVM to OpenVMS. To do so, we need to look at extending the AMD64 calling convention to suit the existing calling conventions available on OpenVMS. We realize LLVM is a big and complex project and for some people who has not worked on it before, it's going to be a big and tough job that is going to take a lot of time. Still, the job has to

I've watched this list for a while and posted twice for information on a OpenVMS version of Rsync and had no replies. Is there no version?

X11 Forwarding troubles with OpenSSH client and OpenVMS host
Hello, I searched through the mailing list archives here, at securityfocus.com, at HP and google and have come up dry. Sorry in advance if my search was not complete enough or I missed something but I sure as heck didn't see anything. Unable to Connect to OpenVMS Pathworks
This is my first time posting on this list, so please excuse me if this is the wrong list to post on (if it is please just let me know). I've recently upgraded my old Redhat 8.0 box to Redhat Fedora Core 8 which comes with Samba 3.x while my old Redhat 8.0 box had Samba 2.x. On my old box I had SMB map a drive from an older OpenVMS server using Pathworks. I performed this by simply doing:

I'd be shocked if you did. Python 3.x isn't available on

Patches for OpenVMS && Samba4
Refer to this: https://legacyos.org/vsi-introduces-new-samba-release/ I noticed that VSI, the new owners of VMS, have created a package for Samba4 under OpenVMS. I also notice the samba-vms list appears to be abandoned (for years). So, I apologize for posting here on the general list, but it seemed fruitless trying the dedicated list. I am under the impression that the GPL v3 compels all

OpenVMS SSH password expiry woes continue
I sent in a patch a week or so ago for a problem a customer of mine was seeing when trying to connect to their OpenVMS system with an 3.8.1p2 OpenSSH client (running on a linux box or in cygwin) and trying to login to an account who had an expired password. The problem continues although now it has nothing to do with what my patch handled as they have since upgraded their SSH software on the VMS

[LLVMdev] Introduction for new consumer of LLVM
Hello, I'd like to introduce myself, my company, and our upcoming use of LLVM. My name is John Reagan. I've been working on compilers and assemblers since 1983 (yes, 31 years). Most of that time was spent on compilers for VAX/VMS (later renamed to OpenVMS), then OpenVMS on Alpha, and OpenVMS on Itanium. I've also worked with the HP NonStop platform and was directly involved

Port to other Operating Systems
As part of our port of OpenVMS to x86-64, we are using LLVM with our own frontends on OpenVMS Itanium. We are writing a converter between our old backend's IR and the LLVM IR. We can cross-compile (hosted on OpenVMS Itanium) and link/execute on x86-64 CentOS. At present, we pass over 88% of our C test suite. Porting starts with being able to compile the code. Since we are stuck with a

2.5.1pre3 - Bugs in configure script / config.h.in breaks build.
Compaq C 6.5 OpenVMS Alpha 7.3 The config.h.in template file is missing the line: #undef HAVE_INET_NTOP This caused the resulting CONFIG.H on OpenVMS to not test for the existance of the inet_ntop() routine in it's system tables. This configure bug exposed that the prototype in inet_ntop() in RSYNC.H does not match the one in the Compaq C header files. This stopped the build. I am
