adding lines to multiple plot
Hi
I am trying to add density lines to multiple histograms created using R. I
have managed to get all 18 lines on the last histogram in the series,
however, i cannot figure out how to get each line appear on the correct
histogram plot. I know in Matlab there is a hold function, is there
something similar in R?
the following is the code i have used to get mutiple plots and then add all

random forest -optimising mtry
Dear R-helpers,
I'm working on mass spectra in randomForest/R, and following the
recommendations for the case of noisy variables, I don't want to use the
default mtry (sqrt of nvariables), but I'm not sure up to which
proportion mtry/nvariables it makes sense to increase mtry without
"overtuning" RF.
Let me tell my example: I have 106 spectra belonging to 4 classes, the

x-axis label print in 45 degree
Hi how can print x-axis labels in 45 degree in boxplot() (or plot in general)? I
can use las=2 to print in 90 degree, but it looks ugly. Is there a simple option
to do 45 degree easily?
Thanks

ggplot2 - boxplot of variables / columns
Hi,
ggplot/qplot is great - it has really helped me do some nice things.
However, simple boxplot of different columns/variables is a bit
tricky, because of (i think) qplot's generic Y conditional on X input
form. Se below.
# Some data:
a <- rnorm(100)
b <- rnorm(100,1,2)
c <- rnorm(100,2,0.5)
# normal boxplot of a,b,c
boxplot(a,b,c) # Looks good
library(ggplot2) # loads qqplot2

problem with setGroupGeneric from package methods
Hi,
There seems to be a problem with setGroupGeneric() from package 'methods'. The symptoms are somewhat erratic, in the sense that small changes may lead to any of the following behaviours.
1.Package works without problems on Windows and installs on Linux but gives error when loaded with library().
2.Package installs on both systems and gives error when loaded on any of them.

Small inconsistency with boxplot
Dear R-core team,
I think I found a small inconsistency in the boxplot function. I don't want to post it as a bug since I'm not sure this might be considered as one according to the FAQ --- and this is not a major problem. Don't hesitate to tell me if I'm wrong.
If you try to do a boxplot on a matrix and set the "at" argument to some vector different from 1:n, n is the

Force labelling of x-axis
Hi,
I'm trying to do a box-whisker plot of two columns of a data frame, a
list of category names in one column vs. some numerical values in the
other. The plot itself works fine, but only a few points of the x-axis
( the category names ) are labelled. I think that this is because the
category names are too long.
Is there any way to force R to label each x-axis value, preferably at a

Boxplot issues
Boxplot and bxp seem to have changed behaviour a bit of late (R 2.4.1). Or maybe I am mis-remembering.
An annoying feature is that while at=3:6 will work, there is no way of overriding the default xlim of 0.5 to n+0.5. That prevents plotting boxes on, for example, interval scales - a useful thing to do at times. I really can see no good reason for bxp to hard-core the xlim=c(0.5, n+0.5) in the

system is computationally singular: reciprocal condition number
Hi folks,
I know, this is a fairly common question and I am really disappointed that I
could not find a solution.
I am trying to calculate Mahanalobis distances in a data frame, where I have
several hundreds groups and several hundreds of variables.
Whatever I do, however I subset it I get the "system is computationally
singular: reciprocal condition number" error.
I know what it means

boxplot question
I'm graphing a series of boxplots of grouped data inside a function that
passes the data.frame, the names vector, and a title vector.
Because both the data subset changes with each successive pass through the
function, occasionally the names vector turns up with only one group to
plot. This is an expected result. However, when the names argument in
boxplot has only a single name, it

How to pass value to an argument in a function which is an argument to the main function
Dear all,
I constructed this function called my.boxplot.stats by replacing fivnum()
with quantile() in function boxplot.stats(). So I can try different quantile
methods in bwplot(). The problem is I couldn't pass different values to the
"type" argument to my.boxplot.stats, which in turn is an argument in
bwplot(). Now I just have to manually change the "type" value in

scatter.smooth() fitted by loess
Hi there,
I would like to draw a scatter plot and fit a smooth line by loess.
Below is the data.
However, the curve line started from 0, which my "resid" list doesn't
consist of 0 value.
It returned some warnings which I don't know if this is the reason
affecting such problem. Here I also attached the warning messages.
Please let me know if there is a solution to fix this. Thank

label separators in boxplots with conditioning
Hi R-helpers,
I have a data.frame with three columns (lots more reps though in each),
like so:

1 .05 12
1.1 .01 100
1.1 .05 50
1.2 .01 75

I am calling boxplot(RESULT ~ FOO:BAR, ...) This

Unexpected results using the oneway_test in the coin package
Dear fellow R users,
Keywords: Kruskal-Wallis, Post-Hoc, pair-wise comparisons, Nemenyi-Damico-Wolfe-Dunn test, coin package, oneway_test
I am using the "oneway_test" function in the R package "coin" and I am obtaining results which I cannot believe are accurate. I do not wish to waste anyone's time and so if the following problem is rather trivial, I apologize, however I

error : unused argument(s) when boxplot

I am a total beginner in R, so sorry if this is the wrong place. I am using R 2.10.1 on a Mac (Mac OS 10.6.2).
I have this small dataset :

I have no problem reading the table, or getting the summary, but if I try boxplot(growth~sugar, ylab="growth", xlab="sugar", data=Dataset), I have the following error :

Enabling scalarized conditional stores in the loop vectorizer
Hi,
I'd like to enable the scalarized conditional stores feature in the loop
vectorizer (-enable-cond-stores-vec=true). The feature allows us to
vectorize loops containing conditional stores that must be scalarized and
predicated in the vectorized loop.
Note that this flag does not affect the decision to generate masked vector
stores. That is a separate feature and is guarded by a TTI hook.

How to add Conditional Forwarders in Samba4 with Bind9_DLZ?
Hi! We need to add a Conditional Forwarder to our Samba4 Domain.
With the DNS Snap-In from Microsoft i can reate Zones, but if i try to
add a Conditional Forwarder, i get an error message that this is not
supported by the server.
How i can add a Conditional Forwarder with Samba4 and Bind9_DLZ Backend?
Thanks for help!
