plot betadisper, change of pch
Hello! After performing an analysis with betadisper, package vegan I would like to plot the results - so far, so good. But I would also like to "tune" a little bit the plotting characters, as '+' and 'x' are a little to similar... My (boiled down) code: [See session info at the bottom of the mail, vegan is vegan_2.0-3] mod <- betadisper(mydata, mygroups,

Thanks Jeremy, i'm analyzing this with the application team, we'll see what we can find. > I was hoping to find a way for the samba4 server to behave like samba3 (as > in ignoring bad characters and replacing them with an underscore > character), which in the end resulted in the best compromise. In the meantime, do you have any idea why there is difference between the two

R crashes when printing a named numeric vector of a specific class - Bug?
Dear useR's, today I stumbled over an interesting phenomenon: First, I created a named numeric vector with a certain class and several attributes via the structure() function. After that, I implemented a simple print method for this class. When calling this function it produces an endless loop of print calls until R crashes. :/ What is going on here? Is this a bug or have I done something

plotmath degree symbol
In plotmath expressions, R's degree symbol, e.g. shown by plot(1, main = parse(text = "1*degree*C")) has sunk to halfway the text line, instead of touching its top. In older R versions this looked much better. -- Edzer Pebesma Institute for Geoinformatics Heisenbergstrasse 2, 48151 Muenster, Germany Phone: +49 251 8333081

Hi, We recently switched from R2.7.0 to R2.8.1 but having problems tracking down this 'invalid multibyte character' encoding issue. Can someone point us how to solve this? > sessionInfo() R version 2.8.1 (2008-12-22) x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu locale:

sessionInfo() fails to correctly detect locale settings
Dear R devels Yesterday I was slightly surprised to notice that R incorrectly detected some of the locale settings. I am not sure whether this is important, but I preferred to drop a message. In the R output below, some entries that should have been "en_GB.UTF-8" are presented as "C". Regards Liviu > sessionInfo() R version 2.9.1 (2009-06-26) x86_64-pc-linux-gnu locale:

reproducible segmentation fault caused by textConnection()
Dear all, It seems that textConnection() can trigger a segmentation fault. The following script (using two large loops) makes this bug reproducible: for (i in 1:10000) { z=textConnection(NULL,open='w') for (j in 1:100) { write(runif(1)*1e6,file=z) write('\n',file=z) } close(z) } The bug could be reproduced on R-2.6.1, R-2.7.0 and on the latest R-devel

R CMD check not reading R_LIBS from ~/.R/check.Renviron
Dear List, Further to my earlier email, I note that, for me at least, R CMD check is *not* reading R_LIBS from ~/.R/check.Renviron on R 2.15.2 patched (r61228) and R Under Development (r61660). The only way I can get R CMD check to look for packages in a user-supplied library is by explicitly exporting R_LIBS set to the relevant directory. R CMD build *does* read R_LIBS from ~/.R/build.Renviron

As the documentaion of postscript says ASCII Character 45("-") is mapped to a minus sign (ASCII Character 95) by default. The advice given is to use "\173" for a hyphen. But, the following code produces a curly brace instead

Problem of "sort" utf8 file.
Hi all, I have 2 linux distro ?? ubuntu and centos. My problem is that the sort command has different behavior when sorting Chinese string encoded in utf8 file. On Ubuntu, it is OK. But on CentOS, it WRONG. I google this problem and it seems that's because of LC_COLLATE. So I change "/etc/sysconfig/i18n" on CentOS and now the 2 have the same LC_** like this: CentOS:

I have just upgraded to R 2.13 and have library(ggplot2) in my .Rprofile (among other things). when i start R I get an error message. Has something in the start up scripts changed? Is there a better way to specify the library calls in .Rprofile? Thanks for all of the help in advance.
