tunefs.lustre --print fails on mounted mdt/ost with mmp
Just checking to be sure this isn''t a known bug or problem. I couldn''t find a bz for this, but it would appear that tunefs.lustre --print fails on a lustre mdt or ost device if mounted with mmp. Is this expected behavior? TIA mds1-gps:~ # tunefs.lustre --print /dev/mapper/mdt1 checking for existing Lustre data: not found tunefs.lustre FATAL: Device /dev/mapper/mdt1 has not

sparc server plus zfs
I have heard rumors to the affect that there will be a sparc release of lustre incorporating zfs. If this is true does anyone know how I can get a copy, beta test, or sign up for the effort.

How to bypass failed OST without blocking?
Hi I want my lustre do such things during OST failed: if some file has stripe data on th failed OST, any operation on the file will return IO error without blocking, and also at this moment I can create and read/write new file or read/write files which have no stripe data on the failed OST without blocking. What should I do ? How to configure? thanks! swin -------------- next part

evicting clients when shutdown cleanly?
Should I be seeing messages like: Dec 14 12:06:59 nyx170 kernel: Lustre: MGS: haven''t heard from client dadccfac-8610-06e7-9c02-90e552694947 (at 141.212.30.185 at tcp) in 234 seconds. I think it''s dead, and I am evicting it. when the client was shut down cleanly? and the lustre file system is mounted via /etc/fstab ? The file system (i would hope) would be unmounted

bad 1.6.3 striped write performance
Hi, I''m seeing what can only be described as dismal striped write performance from lustre 1.6.3 clients :-/ 1.6.2 and 1.6.1 clients are fine. 1.6.4rc3 clients (from cvs a couple of days ago) are also terrible. the below shows that the OS (centos4.5/5) or fabric (gigE/IB) or lustre version on the servers doesn''t matter - the problem is with the 1.6.3 and 1.6.4rc3 client kernels

Read ahead / prefetching
Hi, I am trying to educate myself on prefetching/readahead algorithm for Lustre''s read. For a starter I only have two simple questions. 1 - Does Lustre detect linear or random I/O pattern or it always triggers readahead? 2 - If readahead is triggered, how many pages are read in addition to what is necessary? Thanks, Arifa.

Luster clients getting evicted
on our cluster that has been running lustre for about 1 month. I have 1 MDT/MGS and 1 OSS with 2 OST''s. Our cluster uses all Gige and has about 608 nodes 1854 cores. We have allot of jobs that die, and/or go into high IO wait, strace shows processes stuck in fstat(). The big problem is (i think) I would like some feedback on it that of these 608 nodes 209 of them have in dmesg

Lustre behaviour when multiple network paths are available?
Hi there, When Lustre is configured in an environment where there are multiple paths to the same destination of the same length (i.e. two paths, each one hop away), which path(s) will be used for sending and receiving data? I have my cluster configured with two OSTs with two GigE NICs in each. I am seeing identical performance metrics when I use LACP to aggregate, and when I use two separate

Lustre-1.5.95 & Linux-2.6.18
Will lustre-1.5.95 build with 2.6.18-vanilla kernel? Which_patch doesn''t contain this kernel but I could see them in the series files. Do somebody have experience in building the same? I tried to do it but lot of errors after applying the patches in 2.6.18-vanilla series. Thanks, Venkat

maximum MDT inode count
For future filesystem compatibility, we are wondering if there are any Lustre MDT filesystems in existence that have 2B or more total inodes? This is fairly unlikely, because it would require an MDT filesystem that is > 8TB in size (which isn''t even supported yet) and/or has been formatted with specific options to increase the total number of inodes. This can be checked with

New lustre-community mailing list
Hello All, I''d like to announce the creation of a new lustre-community at lists.lustre.org mailing list. After discussions with the various Lustre parties in the community, we thought there should be a new list to focus the "meta" discussion related to Lustre development in the community, such as how feature design, code development, patch contribution, and landing is

SLES kernel update
Hello CFS, I was wondering if the new SLES10 kernel will be part of the 1.6.4 release. It appears to be tracked by: https://bugzilla.lustre.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13874 As this contains a major security fix (privilege escalation), it is a mandatory upgrade in many places and it would be nice to not have to roll our own kernel. Thanks, Kit

Adding OST to online Lustre with quota
Hello, we wounder whether is it possible to add OSTs to the Lustre with quota support without making it offline? We tried to do this but all quota information was lost. Despite the fact that OST was formatted with quota support we are receiving this error message: Lustre: 3743:0:(lproc_quota.c:447:lprocfs_quota_wr_type()) lustrefs-OST0016: quotaon failed because quota files

Lustre and cross-platform portability
Whamcloud and EMC are jointly investigating how to be able to contribute the Lustre client code into the upstream Linux kernel. As a prerequisite to this, EMC is working to clean up the Lustre client code to better match the kernel coding style, and one of the anticipated major obstacles to upstream kernel submission is the heavy use of code abstraction via libcfs for portability to other
