if statement problem
Hi All, I have a small dataset named das (43 cases) in which I am trying to create a binary outcome (1/0) based on the following code: if (das$age>65 && das$bmi>30) {das$danger<-1} else das$danger<-0 I am setting a flag called 'danger' to 1 of the subject is over 65 and has a BMI > 30. I find that my statement evaluates the first record in the data.frame and

read.delim problem with trailing spaces
I'm trying to read a comma delimited dataset that uses '.' for NA. I found that if the last field on a line was a missing '.' it was not read as NA, but just a '.', and the life variable was made a factor. Skyline plots from several trees in newick format

splitting matrices
Dear useRs, i want to split a matrix having 1116rows and 12 columns. i want to split that matrix into 36 small matrices each having 12 columns and 31 rows. The big matrix should be splitted row wise. which means that the first small matrix should copy values which are in first 31 rows and 12 columns of the big matrix. similarly 2nd small matrix should contain values from 32nd to 63rd row of the

invalid 'row.names' length error when running scatterplots or plot in R Commander
Hello, I teach statistics and use R Commander for teaching. I have 2 students out of 169 that can't get scatterplots or plot to work. I have had them update packages, restart R/R Commander/their computers and even reinstall R/R Commander. One is using Windows 7 on a new pc and the other is a pc user (not sure the OS). They are both using R2.11.1 and R Commander 1.6-0. The data look like

Tukey post hoc comparison (glht?) after 3factorial mixed model (lmer)
Hello, dear R-community. This is a question about TukeyHSD between factor combinations of a Three-Way ANOVA, which is - since it is a multi measure ANOVA - not a simple ANOVA but a Generalised Linear Mixed Model (GLMM), calculated with "lmer". > growth <- groupedData(length~meas|box_id,outer=~spec*comp*water,data=all.spec) > model <-

Help needed with aggregate or other solution
Hello all! I've been struggling with is for many hours today; I'm close to getting what I want, but not close enough... I have a dataframe consisting of two date-time columns followed by two numeric columns. what I need is the max value (in the first numeric column) based on the 2nd date-time column, which is essentially a factor. But, I want the result to provide both date-time values

Help needed with aggregate or other solution
Hi Jeff, Thank you for the suggestions -- I appreciate your help. Unfortunately, the result2 has two problems... (1) there are now 3 date columns (it looks like 2 cols are merged into 1 col) (2) the output rows should not have any of the basistime dates repeated (maybe I misstated the problem); I need the max fcst value by basistime, but also list the date value for that row; for example:

Find a particular point on a curve
Hi, my question is really precise. I'm interested in drops of stomacal temperature (of seal pups) following milk ingestion. Temperature starts at an average of 37.8oC (sd=0.2) and drops rapidly to around 36.0oC and then stabilizes slowly to a temperature silimar to the previous one. It looks a bit like an inverse skewed bell curve. I want to find different points on that curve, and I have a
